Just spent a week at the hotel. Nice hotel, sham about the 2 cockerels running loose, the noise in the morning from about 4 oclock was annoying, they seem to have the run of the hotel grounds. Sunbeds around the pool do not get unchained until 9.am, so you can have a lay in, we found the sunbeds on the grass not chained up. Entertainment needs help, ( thank god for SHAGGY ), hope you like playing football. Hotel in a Quiet area, nice little walk in to Punta Prima, or hotel mini bus will take you. the bar closes bang on 23.00 or just before then they start clearing up. T V's in the rooms have some english channels, our room was o k for 2 people. Don't forget to go to Mahon for the day, local bus picks up at the hotel. 1.60 euros oneway each. For the money a good holiday.

We have been to this hotel the last two years and have had a great time yes there are faults but there are always little snagging points on holidays. lets be straight about it its not a 5 star hotel its a cheap option for families on a budget. Food is clean and edible loads of fresh salads ,olives ,fresh fish ,prawns childrens menu is poor but id expect my kids to eat what i eat they do at home. The crazy gang entertainment is a giggle 2008 guys n gals were better then 2009 but the kids love the disco n late disco the dances r great to learn . the sun lounger issues were tried to be resolved by chainin them up and only opening them up around 8 9 am some lovely quiet grassed areas and the area is lovely n peaceful. Some rooms are a little close to the bar n stage and did notice that parts of the hotel are looking a little tatty. Queues are a problem though you can have to queue at meal times and the bar is pretty mad at night. ive looked at the reviews on here and on trip advisor and to be honest alot just seem to give all negative. If you want a holiday thats cheat n cheerful then this is ideal.

* Staff on arrival were friendly and helpful. * room was nice with plenty of room for a family of 4 * food was really cold, tasteless (thank god for salt and mayonaise), flies were in resturant all the time so they were on food. * Location was terrible, nearest shop was in Punta Prima town (Ghost Town) there was a free bus which ran from hotel. it's a 15-20 min walk. * Entertainment was boring,we were expecting much better with loction being so bad. same music on every day... cd which they played must have been put on repeat * also the stage was near pool the area where the children played and danced was in my eyes a HAZARD * People there also had the same reviews on the place

have just come back from a week at the sur menorca, and it was fantastic, hotel lovely, meals very enjoyable tasty and varied, and prepared veggie snacks at snack time when asked, for my partner. evening entertainment was really good with 3 tribute acts within a week, not sure if that was normal or just because it was near to the end of the season, but we enjoyed the whole week. childrens club crew were brilliant all week, always with a smile, and even had the adults joining in with 'the sunshine dance' by the end of the week. there was a mix of families and couples at the hotel ,and everybody we spoke to was very happy there. would recommend this place to anyone,we are looking at going back next year

the food in this hotel was very often just barely warm and the sausages at breakfast were a real joke,. and I will eat anything. There was always food on the floor.People would get up at Seven o clock to save a sunbed or four and then go back to bed. There is avery good bus service to Punta Prima which is free and also to Mahon from the hotel car park.Dont expect much from this hotel then you wont be dissapointed

"Negatives outway the positives"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Open quote

I booked this holiday for my young family of two young boys aged 3 and 2. Luckily we were given a room that faced the front of the hotel, I would have hated to be looking over the pool where the entertainment took place. Some rooms were virtually on top of the stage area and having spoke to some couples things could get pretty loud later on in the evening, kids jumping into pool and rather drunken adults. Enertainment not great but my kids loved the crazy disco and parrot show. However, the stage was so close to the pool I could never relax while they ran around and had to join in myself most nights. The food was pretty average and the staff were very miserable, some nights shown to a table and others we were completely ignored so we never knew what to do. The floor was disgusting and one morning as I bent down to pick up something my son dropped I was mortified to see the previous evening food under the table, obviously never swept or mopped. Also I have to comment on the breakfast, my son and I tried every cereal on offer and it was as I can only describe as eating cardboard, there was also only one toaster which meant at least a 10 min wait. This was a regular occurance. It seemed that there were just too many holiday makers for the number of staff working. The only person who made us feel welcome was the bus driver who took us to the beach everyday. The grassed area is a must to sunbathe if you want some peace and quiet, plus it allowed my 3 and 2 year old to play safely. I would also recommend a visit to the beach it was quiet and clean, however, be aware of the unfriendly men when you purchase a sunbed, under no circumstances are you allowed past a small wooden post ( no signs to tell you this). They also never started to put the beds out till 10.30 am. I would love to visit menorca again but not at this accomodation, but as I remind myself it was a reasonable price so I should not complain too much.

We stayed at this hotel in July 2009 We are in our early 60s it is not a hotel for our age group. Far too many children could not get in pool had to que for drinks. The entertainment was OK if you were under 6 years old. Only one bar snacks were not good very limited the same every day. We would say if you donot have children don't go.

I can't beleive some of the reviews from the same time we were here. We arrived 13th July and left 8:30 on the 15th to a differnt hotel. Just disgusting dirt on resturant floor, poo in the kids pool moud up the bathroom wall just digusting. Food was pants and water was served ina cup you couldn't get a bottle. Kids were unruly, total lack of respect for anything. My 6yr old couldn't belive some of the behaviour best thing about the hotel MOVING to the Insotel up the road

"Not as bad as some reviews suggest"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Open quote

I booked this hotel over a year in advance based on some good reviews. However I did begin to get concerned as more and more negative reviews were posted coming up to the date of our Holiday. The hotel does look old fashioned and it could do with a bit of money spending on it but for the price we paid (£1044) I thought it was value for money. The only day we had a problem getting a sunbed was the day of our arrival and we didnt get there while 12.30 so it was gone 2.00 before we even looked for one. Yes there are some saddos who get up at the crack of dawn for their spot round the pool but to be honest we found the grass area a lot more pleasant although my daughter is 9and a very good swimmer so I had no cause for concern about her being in the pool if you have toddlers there is a lovely paddling pool at the back of the hotel where the adventure playground is with sunbeds and parasols. We normally looked for a bed after breakfast which would be around 9am and we never had a problem getting one. The snack bar which opens three times a day serving burgers, pizza, toasties and chips is now based in the restaurant on a self serve basis we used this on 2 occasions both at night and on both occasions I was disgusted by the behaviour of fellow brits - food being left on CHAIRS!! - put it in the bin! Although there was a sign quite clearly stating foood was not to be taken out of the restaurant i witnessed this being done - A LOT! - which would perhaps explain why other reviewers found staff surly - they are probably fed up with the blatent disregard of their requests! The queues for the bar - yes it did get busy but we never queued for longer than 5 or 6 mins not the 15 mins others have suggested. The reception staff were really really lovely and made us feel like nothing was too much bother we got a ground floor room at the poolside and we did not find this small for the 3 of us I would say it was bigger than other hotels we have stayed in. If you are wanting to go out for the day you can order a picnic from reception prior to 8pm the night before you then pick your picnic up from the restaurant at breakfast. These consisted of bread rolls, fruit, tins of tuna, packs of meat, cheese spread, tomatoes and bottled water we ordered these twice for our trips down to the beach. We walked into Punta Prima a couple of times but it was really really hot the week we were there so we did make use of the courtesy bus which was excellent! The bus stops running at 6pm so we would have a stroll down in the evening and then get the little train back this picks you up in the centre of Punta Prima and is 2 euros each up to the Sur Menorca - well worth it in the sweltering heat!! The food at the hotel was average of what you would expect in a 3* AI with some strange combinations like Squid and Sprouts! We did not go hungry though and my daughter enjoyed the meals and she never felt the need to go to the kids buffet for nuggets chips etc. The maid service is excellent the maid cleaned everyday and left fresh towels every day even though we hadnt put the old ones on the floor to be changed. They are also very pleasant and go out of their way to greet you. I was a little disappointed in the beach though there was a lot of seaweed and jellyfish and the warning flag was up on both days we went the water was not calm - good for surfers though - but no good if you want to go in for a gentle swim, although one evening the beach was packed and the sea did look calm but this was at about 7pm. The entertainment was also pretty average club turn type acts but enjoyable all the same - i would have to agree with a previous reveiwer that the parrot show was dire but the ABBA tribute were really good. All in all we had a great holiday yes we have stayed in better hotels and been to better beaches but for the price we could not fault this hotel it is a safe environment for children and in my opinion a holiday is what you make it if you look for something to complain about you will find it!

Nice stay at the Sur Menorca, good standard of cleanliness throught, perhaps best suited to family holidays, rather than a quiet getaway. There is however a quiet adults only area in the dining room, and large grassy patch to the front if you need some peace. Otherewise ,just as you would expect from a 3 star allinc hotel. No serious issues, bar could get busy , corridors sometimes noisy, kids sometimes out of hand, but then at busy times would be the same any where. All in all good value. Approx 35 mins walk from Punto Prima, 10 mins from nearest beach/cove. Excellent buses stop at front door of hotel.

"allmost perfection Sur Minorca"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Open quote

Aas a couple we chose this Hotel as a late choice knowing nothing of its pedigree. We were highly delighted, yes there was a bit of queing at the bar, do you not que in your local pub? the location is great we wanted a quiet location and this is spot on, but with the added bonus that a free bus to Punta Prima beach is at the door and that of the local bus service to Mahon. Good food and the bonus of an adults only dining section was brilliant. This Hotel should be 4 star, clean, friendly, and definetly one to go back to. If you are looking for action go elswhere, Minorca is beautifull, Majorca it is not, it is unspoilt as is deserving of its biospear status. The Hotel sur minorca is a perfect place for peace and to wind down. As a couple it is ideal for couples but also for families with young kids

The entertainment staff were fantastic, they were very friendly and even remember our name. There was something different on every night. We enjoyed all of the shows and activities. During the day, everyday, there was a range of different activities around the pool for adults and children as well as kids club!! The site The pool was great, quite cold and we were sometimes the only ones in there, but it was quite good with the music around the pool, really gets you in the holiday mood. There was a park on the other side of the hotel which was good, my son loved a trip to the park every day. My daughter and i did all sorts at this hotel, such as volleyball, football, darts, bingo and more. Location The location of this hotel was great, a 10 minute bus drive to the beach. With busses arriving at the hotel for the beach around every 10 minutes. We also got the bus to Mahon, which had the nearest market, there were loads of different stalls and everyone was friendly and made the effort to speak English. Overall Punta Prima is quiet and peaceful, great place to just go for long walk. The food was fantastic. Each meal had a variety of choices in store at breakfast lunch and dinner. And the snack bars were great too, also inlcuded in the all inclusive deal, we went there everyday, about an hour after lunch and at about 8-9 at night, there were toasties, ice-creams burgers and other stuff, all very very nice. The hotel was always cleaned, towels changed everyday.

"Excellant family hotel"

Overall Hotel Rating:

The hotel was of an extremely high standard in every aspect. The rooms were of a reasonable size and were kept very clean. The entertainment staff were fantastic and worked really hard to make sure that everyone had a good time, and a good variety of entertainment as well. The food was quite varied and unlike other hotels who serve up chips every night this hotel offered potatoes in varying forms, boiled, sliced & fried, wedges and chips.

The facilities for the children were really good. My son who is just under 3 loved having the really shallow pool to go in (only up to his waist) and the adventure playground with pirate ship was a big hit!

Would recommend to anyone with children, and we will definitely go back again!

The staff were lovely and friendly. Regular linen change. Really cant fault this hotel. Are we going back? YOU BET. Drinks - We did have to queue a little but not too much and you can always get as many drinks as you like to save going up again for a while especially in the evening when it does get busier. great hotel, we had a bungalow round the back which was lovely, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, lounge, kitchen and a sun terrace, and was very spacious. i believe that some of the rooms in the hotel were a bit small with no kitchen according to some of the other guests so we were well suited.maid service was every day, with clean towels aswell. weather was great while we were here 29th aug - 12th sep, very hot first week but a bit cloudy the second.the first week we had to set our alarms for 6.30 a.m just to get a sunbed, the second week they started chaining them up till about 8-8.30 so this was better, although we too always went down on the grass which was good for the little ones to play safely (if you avoided the mud spots) and didnt fill up as quick.food was excellent always a good choice of meat dishes and some lovely salads and desserts.breakfast was sometimes a bit dodgy, very streaky bacon(but it always is abroad) and the sausages were ...unusual most days! but always plenty of cereals, yogurts, fruits and bread products..anyway great holiday, lovely hotel, great evening entertainment (temptations and robbie williams) and plenty of activities(shooting, boules, pool ect) for adults and older kids and a brilliant adventure playground for the little ones as mine were too young to go the kids club unfortunatly. we'd definatly go back!
