"October break"
Overall Hotel Rating:
This was our second visit to the M&L Apartments in Santo Tomas having visited there a year ago. That says it all. Not much has changed and we still recommend it, particularly for those holidaying with young children (under 10s). However, there are three points to note: 1. The excellent children's entertainer had her hours cut (presumably due to the Global Finantial Crisis, the crash of Lehman Brothers etc) and consequently there were less kids activities on offer. Unlike last year, there was no activities for under 4s. 2. I don't think Santo Tomas has enough things on offer for older children (teenagers). 3. The price of the shops there is frankly staggering.

"Fantastic Holiday, would go again!!"
Overall Hotel Rating:
I went on this holiday as my first holiday abroad with my son (aged 20 mths). I travelled with my parents and we had a 2 bedroomed apartment on the Mestral side. I thought the facilities for my son was excellent, he especially loved the splash pool. It was a pleasant 2 min walk to the beach and what a beach...... clean, fine sand, crystal water and sheltered. Food was a bit limited as there was really only one restuarant near the hotel but you can use the cafe's and restaurants in other hotels within the resort. We travelled in mid-September and it was lively but quite when it should be i.e at night. I do recommend hiring a car and exploring some more of the island. We did this for 1 day during our 1 week stay and felt that was enough. I highly recommend this for young families, friendly staff, clean, overall FANTASTIC!!!

"great family holiday"
Overall Hotel Rating:
This was our first holiday abroad with our two children, 4 + 7, it was fab. We stayed in the mestral side , apts were fine, beach lovely. The resort is very limited for shopping best to hire a car and buy at supermarkets in bigger resorts. Eating out was expensive and not much variety, but in saying that we were home 1 week and booked up again for the same resorts and apts as it really was a great resort for famillies.

"Nice and quite in October"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Just got back from 7 nights break in October 2008. The weather was superb, warm and sunny but not too hot. Only the Mestral side of the complex was open. The Llebeig side was closed for the season. We stayed in a 2 bed apartment over looking the Mestral bar. The apartment was reasonably spacious and had a TV, that received BBC 1 and 2 and Sky news plus Spanish and German channels. The kitchen was adequate, ours seemed to lack saucepans. The fridge looked rusty on the outside but was clean on the inside. The bathroom was a bit cramped but adequate. The water from the taps in the kitchen and bathroom was piping hot. The bedrooms were a reasonable size. Overall the interior decor looked a bit outdated but the exteriors appeared fresh and modern. The complex had two identical pool/bar areas, a kiddies paddling pool with water attractions that were great fun, two playgrounds and a play hut for supervised activities. The sun terrace/balcony was very spacious, with table and chairs and clothes drying facilities. The grounds were very well kept. The reception was helpful. The childrens entertainer was very good and popular with the children. There were daytime activities 6 days a week, and evening entertainment which included a mini-disco (for the kids) followed by some other entertainment, also 6 nights a week. All the other staff were friendly and helpful, especially at Las Dunas over the road.
We went on the 'Mahon and Modas' trip. Mahon was plesant enough but try to go on a market day. Ciutadella is a better place to visit. Modas was described in First Choice's trip itinerary as a "large indoor commercial centre'. I would use this description for the Trafford Centre. Modas however was a small leather shop were you were given a moderately hard sell for expensive leather garments(£480 for a mans jacket). A complete waste of time unless you're in the market for such an item and I would not recommend this trip.

"Relaxed and very laid back"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Arrived in resort about 9.30pm which gave us just enough time to get stocked up with water, etc. It was so hot in the apartment, I think it may have been closed up for a couple of days, but we got the air con going, and thank god we had it cos it was on all night every night after that. The temperature daily was 28-30 degrees, hardly any cloud and not a drop of rain the whole time. Lovely! We stayed 11 nights, and had a 2 bed apartment (D11) which was really spacious, with a very big balcony overlooking the pool. I took the advice of a previous reviewer and requested the Llebeig side of the apartments. This is the quieter side. The apartments are more or less like "twins", either side of a quiet road. Each side has an identical pool and bar, but the Mestral side has the splash pool for tots which looked really good fun, but obviously more kids that side! In the resort these apartments are set back from the seafront, but the whole resort is so small that it was still only 2 minutes away. There are some nice restaurants in resort, and yes they are a bit pricey but you just get on with it dont you. The Chinese is very good, as is Lady Hamilton restaurant. Bar Halley is also not bad, quite nice food for a cheaper option. There are two supermarkets alongside a few souvenir shops, nothing tacky or in your face. Some of the other hotels were loud and busy, ie Victoria Playa and Lord Nelson. Book these if you like that kind of thing. Mestral & Llebeig were much lower key. Entertainment is at the Las Dunas bar, where there is mini golf, table tennis, tennis courts and a few amusement type things. They have evening entertainment over there, kids disco, bingo, acts - the usual type of thing. We didnt go over, the whole resort was so laid back we found ourselves happy just strolling the prom, or sitting on the balcony reading books and playing scrabble. This is quite an achievement with two teenage children, but we were all so chilled out! We also walked to the cave through the woods, takes about 40 mins but is worth it. We walked to the beach at Son Bou too, just lovely. Would rather walk than lay in the sun! Special mention to Pablo at the Bar Llebeig. What a lovely guy, really friendly and chatty. There's a big TV in there and they have sky sports, just ask if you want to see anything particular. By the way, you can get BBC1 and 2 in the apartment so siesta time was spent watching Wimbledon while my husband snored away in the bedroom! Would return again, loved it!

"Mestral and Lleibig apartments"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We were pleasantly surprised by the apartments. We had a spacious 3-bedroom apartment with a larger than average balcony (based on previous holidays' experiences). The rooms are kitted out just like any package holiday apartment, but comfortable enough. Although we didn't need it, think the air con is free. The pony club trip is great and free. The rep at the kids' club was great. Our balcony overlooked the splash pool which we were told is new this year and it is a fantastic addition. It's on the Mestral side of the apartments. If you have small children (6 months to around 7 or 8) they will love this new pool. It's about shin-deep at its maximum depth (if you are an adult) and has in total 3 water slides, 2 of which are double slides. There's a waterfall palm tree and a couple of other squirty bits. The biggest slide periodically tips water from a bucket above it down the slide which the older kids loved. That's a little noisy but it's only operated outside "siesta" hours so isn't too bad.

"POORING OUTSIDE OF SEASON"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Nice little complex which is ideal if you have young children , kids club ( limited spaces ) , 2 playgrounds and pony club which children can visit for free once a week ( provided they have a space at the kids club ). Rooms basic but cleaned regular. It was chilly in october when we visited and there was no heating so warm clothing needed and you will need to use the blankets provided.

"Mestral And Llebeig Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
What a wonderful little resort!
We arrived and were greeted by cheerful and polite hotel staff.Whenever I had call to go to reception the staff were extremley helpful and even on one occasion spent ages phoning an emergency dentist for me to get advise on a tooth problem. It seemed nothing was too much for them.
Our apartment was basic but extremley clean and had all the equipment we needed for our self catering holiday. The maids were always cheerful and cleaned daily. The bed linen and towels were changed whenever we asked.
We had two teenage girls with us and were a little apprehensive at first on allowing them to wander to far. We had no reason to be concerned as there was only one road into the resort and it only takes 10 mins to walk from one end to the other. They quickly made friends and often wandered to one of the other hotels to play pool and snooker.
Some of the restaurants were a little repetative with their food serving everything with chips. The evening entertainment in the restaurant across from the apartments was geared mainly for younger children although occasionly they did have a good dance or singing act.
The local cheese is delicious but seems a little expensive.
The horse show is fantastic but expensive if booked through the tour operator. We hired a car for a couple of days and went then. You can book tickets anytime by just driving up there. Its on the way to Cala Galdena on the left hand side.
The pony club in resort was lovely and run by a very friendly kind English lady. Well worth a visit if your children like horses.
All in all a great holiday.
"Mestral And Llebeig Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Our third package holiday in Menorca and first time in Santo Tomas. A small resort, but well kept and attractive. We were a party of two adults so other than a couple of shopping areas, there isn't a great deal to do if you're not into tennis or mini golf!
Having said that, Santo Tomas has a lovely beach and surroundings! And going the first week of the season meant it wasn't packed. There is a bus service to/from the resort, but it isn't as regular as in other larger places so you have to choose travel times carefully to ensure you can get back! The two supermarkets in the resort were reasonable if self-catering - and prices were comparable between the two.
We were on the Llebeig side of the apartment complex (to the right of Reception as you approach). Overall, the standard was good - clean, well appointed and everything in good working order. If I had to make a criticism it would be that the bedroom felt a little damp, but really this is a minor whinge! Cleaned a couple of times during our week, which frankly is more than enough if you're a clean and tidy couple! We often self-cater but did take advantage of the take-away service offered by one of the nearby bars. Apartments all had balconies and although ours faced the main road through the resort, we were looking out to sea rather than into the complex and the pool, which we felt was a more interesting view and more private. We were also impressed with the professionalism of the Reception staff and the place felt well run. We did use the pool a couple of times and didn't have to fight for sunbeds, although it was early in the season.
We tend not to trawl the bars in the evening so cannot comment on the 'nightlife'. Having said that, it didn't sound too lively, so if like us you're looking for a quiet trouble-free break, I would recommend this resort and complex.

"Mestral And Llebeig Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Just returned from two weeks at the Mestral and Lleibeig Apts. After reading the reviews prior to going were really looking forward to it and had pretty high expectations.
The transfer from the airport was pretty bad - one of the reasons we picked the resort was that it was fairly close to the airport and with a 1 year old that's quite important! However, First Choice in their wisdom made a drop off in Arenal first. This is on the completely opposite side of the island to Santo Thomas, so the transfer took over an hour!
The apartment was in the Mestral side, but was very quiet. However, it was quite small (1 bedroom) and with a cot didn't leave much space without a fair amount of furniture moving! I can't see how this would accomodate 4 adults - and we had to pay an under occupancy supplement. We spoke to the rep about moving to a 2 bed apartment but it was all fully booked. Another gripe we had was that the wardrobe between the kitchen and the bathroom was damp - couldn't put anything in it as it stank and the drawers were swollen shut! Our rep just advised us to ";leave the doors open";. Helpful! The big bonus was the large (and gated) balcony - a godsend with the kids. The pools as well were really nice - we preferred the lleibeig side as it was a bit quieter for the little one.
The resort itself is lovely, the beach is fantastic and everywhere felt very safe - no noisy mopeds at 2 am etc. The only thing was lack of variety in the restaurants and the fact that everywhere is very pricey compared with other resorts. The restaurants we liked best were the Malibu and Don Tomas. We had one really nice and one really awful meal at Las Dunas, but our eldest loved the play area so it was a bit of a trade-off!
Evening entertainment was limited but we liked the Victoria Playa best - some excellent acts and usually spare seats.
We're very glad we had a car for 5 days and would thoroughly recommend it. Son Parc has an amazing beach and we liked Punta Prima too. Don't miss going to Fornells either - lovely. All in all a good holiday, but a bit too quiet for us. Eating out is a major part of our holiday and we were a bit disppointed on that score.

"Mestral And Llebeig Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Well, I had read many of the reviews on this site so had a good idea of the holiday. When we arrived, early in the morning (all tired!)I was a slightly disappointed; the room was stifflingly hot, and seemed dark and dingy. However we went out and left the air con on and came back feeling much better about it.
We usually do hotel holidays so this was a first for us.
We hired a car from'do you spain', which we picked up outside our aprt! great.
We travelled the island which was beautiful and although the reosrt was quiet, by the end of our two weeks we decided we would definately return, but make sure we had a two bed apartment next time.
Try th e beach at Son Boi, lovely.
I was really impressed with the cooking facilities, especially the huge fridge, we stocked it up from a supermarket outside Sant tomas.
We went on a fab boat trip from Mao (Mahon) which runs for 31/2 hours, the crew were great and a good piece of advice is to go in the afternoon not morning when all the holiday companies book.
We loved it the pool was clean and all well maintained, although apartments although clean needed some updating, faily basic.

"Mestral And Llebeig Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We travelled before the traditional school holiday season so the apartments were less crowded. Overall the holiday could not have been any better. The apartment was spotless and spacious. Our flight had been delayed by 3 hours so we didnt arrive til 1.30am and it was nice that they left us milk and water in the apartment. We were in Mestral- block C. It was about 20m from the pool so not noisy. The small bar run by Nikos is great, food at lunchtime is cheap and edible (for kids)
The kids club run by Kelly was fabulous for our girls- 2 hours each morning which was all we wanted. It caters for 3-11 year olds but I would be surprised if any 11 year old boys would have been into it as it was rather centred around more girly stuff!I cannot fault the complex at all tho perhaps more parasols would be nice.
The resort overall is terribly quiet which we liked, it is a 3 min walk to a most incredible sandy beach. The water was beautiful and calm and it was perfect for small children. The resort itself has 4 hotels, a few restaurants and a couple of supermarkets. There appears to be a price-setting cartel as everything is remarkably similar in price! There is a fabulous restaurant in the Hotel Santo Tomas which despite being of a high quality also serves and welcomes children! If you want to leave Santo Tomas you can get public buses for a couple of euros to Es Mercadel but on Tuesdays they run a free bus in the evening. To sum up, it is a very quiet resort for families with younger children. We loved it so much I am going to take the children back there in 3 weeks before school starts!

"Mestral And Llebeig Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Travelled to the Mestral and Llebeig apartments end of June 07.
Flight from Manchester was on time and amazingly, complimentary meal was not only edible but very tasty!
Transfer from airport to Santo Tomas took about 40 minutes. On arrival the reception staff were very friendly, gave us general information on the resort and the amenities. A safe key was 13 euro's with a 6 Euro refundable deposit.
We were allocated a 2 bedroom apartment on the Mestral side which was facing the road ( was a bit noisy in the morning when the bins were being emptied and the sprinklers on the grass). Both Mestral and Llebeig have a pool and a bar. Apartment was exactly as described on earlier reviews ie, clean, spacious and with lots of extras, Microwave, fridge - freezer, iron and ironing board and enough cooking implements if you really wanted to fully self cater and a very large balcony which spanned the full length of thr apartment ( 1 and 3 bedroom ones seemed to have a slightly smaller balcony.
The resort itself is very small, takes about 20 minutes to stroll from one end to the next. There are 2 supermarkets, one at either end of the resort with the mestral and llebeig being pretty much in the middle of them.
Entertainment was provided at Las Dunas, across the road and involved a kids disco at 8.30pm and then at 9.30pm either an act or talent show etc. Las Dunas also provided food which was variable in quality although the half chicken was nice. Please dont expect the waiters to hurry after all you are in Spain! At Las Dunas there are also pool tables, table tennis and air soccer along with a soft play area for the smaller children.
Eating out was pretty restricted in such a small resort but we found the best places to be the Sol Hotel where you could get an all you can eat buffet for 20 euro's adult and 14 euro's child which included wine and water or 17 euro's and 11 euro's without the drinks. The small cafe between the supermarket and gift shops on the right of the resort also did a very good and reasonable selection of baguettes for 4.4 euros and came with a side salad and fries. We also tried the Victoria Playa Buffet which was cheaper but nowhere near as nice and with far less choice.
Entertainment was pretty much centered around the hotels and we found the Vistoria Playa's to be about the best although we did try others.
The beach is lovely and much nicer than the photo's in the brochure. Pedalo's etc were available to hire and usually at a cost of around 12 euro's for an hour.
After reading earlier reviews I decided to hire a car. I hired from TUI at the side of Hamilton Court apartments and was quoted 90 euro's with full damage waiver insurance for a corsa for 3 days, when I enquired about the price of a Meriva the man actually let me have that for the same price as the smaller car. (prices went up on the 1st July for peak season). I found the island very easy to navigate and is perfect for your first experience of driving abroad and with hindsight I wish I had hired a car from the airport for the full week as there are so many small places to see.
All in all we enjoyed the holiday, however my 15 yer old son did find it too quiet for him and did say he wouldn't return again. I would return to Menorca as it is such a beautiful island but would not return to Santo Tomas with teenagers, however it is perfect for younger families.

"Mestral And Llebeig Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
If you want to go to a place for relaxation lots of activities for the children and a stone throw away from the beach then this is the place for you.
Mestral Llebeig are split into 2 sections, one side you have got the Mestral apartments and right next door you have got the Llebeig apartments. They are exactly the same in everyway apart from the play area. The Mestral side was much better equipped. We stayed in the Mestral apartments.
Our apartments were very good. We had a two bedroom apartment with a well equipped kitchen, oven, hob, microwave etc. The maid service was very good.
The complex had 2 bars, 2 swimming pools, a kids club, play area, crazy golf, pony club, games room, pool table, entertainment every night and a very good English bar nearby.
The only thing I would say about Santo Tomas is that it does not have a variety of restuarants. Apart from the Las Dunas which is opposite the apartments but are apart of the complex, there is not very much around. You can eat in the nearby hotels which are very good especially the Don Tomas Hotel which was exceptional, (a bit pricey but well worth it)and there is a pizzerie and chinese (you can get a take away from these).
There is no hectic nightlife and rowdy crowds and most places close at 12.30am.
The beach was fantastic, it took approximately 4 minutes to walk to it. The beach itself was very clean and sandy and the sea was very clear and very warm.
All in all it was an excellent holiday.
