I an posting this in an attempt to warn others of the absolutely dreadful experience we have just had at this ";so called"; resort.
We checked in (if you can call just getting the keys checking in - no passport checks to see if we were who we said we were!)and given directions to our ";reallocated, better class"; apartment.
When we entered we had to go back outside - the place reeked of stale water/air/whatever. Everything was coverd in a layer of gritty dust, no doubt a legacy from the building site that is slap bang in the middle of the ";resort"; and only 10 feet from our front door.
The furniture was filthy and broken, the sink was stained and still had food remenants in it (as did the cooker and microwave), and there was 1 coffee mug. Given that this was a 2 bed apartment to sleep 6 people, you presumably had to drink in shitfs!
The patio was as dirty as the rest of the place and all the windows were screwed shut which meant that you could not open any of the shutters as they were accessed from the inside!
There were 2 sun loungers (filthy and broken) on the patio (for an apartment to sleep 6 remember)and bird droppings all over the patio.
Night time brought it's own entertainment in the form of 4 inch long cockroaches! I lost count of the number I killed with spray or my trusty shoe.
We complained to our reps (couldn't find the ";manager"; anaywhere) and we thankfully were relocated after two nights of sheer hell. When we checked out (early as we were suppoesed to be there for 1 week), the ";manager"; seemed suprosed that any od his apartments were dirty - perhaps he should check them before letting holiday makers use them.
I would strongly advise that you aviod this whole complex.
ONce again - DON'T BOOK A HOLIDAY AT THIS PLACE UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED TO DO SOME SERIOUS CLEANING AND COCKROACH FIGHTING!!!
Apartment was booked privately off the net, a great way of saving money, 3 of us shared a 1 bed apartment for a week for 150 pounds, 50 pounds each! Flights cost 95 each booked through Avro. Monarch is one of the best charter airlines I have ever flown with...
Apartment was booked privately off the net, a great way of saving money, 3 of us shared a 1 bed apartment for a week for 150 pounds, 50 pounds each! Flights cost 95 each booked through Avro. Monarch is one of the best charter airlines I have ever flown with. Their seats are as cramped as any other charter fligh but at least Monarch seem to run to time and the food is good. I just wish charter airlines didn't charge people for soft drinks or water, that seems a bit penny pinching.
Amarilla Golf is next to Golf del Sur and the resort has very limited facilities. It is good for a get away from it all rest and the aircraft noise is not as bad as some might make you think as they are usually landing from that side, which makes them quieter than takeoff. For restaurants and bars you can drive your essential hire car over to Golf del Sur. San Blas commercial center in G del S is where it all happens.
Others on here have already commented on Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos. Of the two I far prefer Los Cristianos but they are both fairly ghastly.
One thing anyone in the south of Tenerife should do is go to the fishing port of Los Abrigos to eat locally caught fish in one of the many restaurants lining the harbour. We deliberately chose a restaurant where they were NOT touting for you as you walked past and it was great. Do eat at least once at ";Las Brisas";; it might have none of the flashy decorative gimmicks of the touting ones but they were friendly and the food was excellent and cheap. You choose your own fish and they grill it and serve it on the bone, ok so it may be a bit picky to eat but it is absolutely delicious.
Frankly, the Las Brisas restaurant was the highlight of the holiday. Having been to Tenerife Sur twice now I tink I've ";done"; the place; other places have more charm.
