Westhaven Bay, not a nice haven!
Seven of our family took a holiday in Westhaven Bay in October 2006. On the face of it the centre is tidy, well kept and friendly. The good points are all the ones you can see, ie:- the location, the restaurant, the pool and the apartments. There is a supermarket on site so shopping is a breeze and a small village ten minutes walk away for restuarants, shops and a frequent bus service.
Some minus points were, no room fans or air conditioning, no view, just someone elses roof, no security patrol.
However for all this we came away quite unhappy with our stay. We had been told that there had been no rain in Tenerife for six months and guess what, the rain came while we were there and boy did it rain. We were all out for the day as you do when on holiday and we got a good soaking. But back at Westhaven there were floods galore. When we returned that evening I discovered water coming through the ceiling in the sitting room of our apartment. The TV, the suite, and floor was soaked with gallons of water, it looked as if the bath had overflowed. I dashed upstairs to discover that the balcony was flooded with gallons of water which had come over the sill and into the bedroom and through the floor to the sitting room below. The fault was the balcony drain simply blocked with silt. Istuck my finger in and cleared it and with a whoosh, the water drained away to the patio below like Niagra Falls. Addtionally, there was no mains water supply for showering etc.
When the water had drained, we were closing the balcony doors and noticed that the wood was splintered. On close inspection it was clear that we had an attempted break in as well as a flood. Thankfully the doors had held and entry was not gained which was just as well because we were informed on our arrival that the safe was not working.
So with the living room a disaster area, no water and a damaged patio door off we went to reception to report all this. The receptionist Heidi simply said ";Im sorry everyone is experiencing problems, we will send some one to see your apartment as soon as we can";. Regarding the attempted break in. there was fake look odf shock and "; oh don't you have a safe?"; to which I replied 'NO' ours isnt working! So with the assurance that some one would come and sort out the apartment, off we went again to continue with our holiday.
NO ONE CAME, nor was there any offer of a move to another apartment. And for the last five days of our stay our living area was a disaster and smelled of damp. I myself mopped up the water but the rest was a mess. Thankfully half of our party were in another apartment and we dined with them.
When the day came to settle our account, we listed all the problems we had faced:-
1. Living room out of use, no TV, bad smell and a mess for five days.
2. No effort made to ensure the security of our aprtment and repair the damaged door.
We foolishly hoped for a sign of goodwill or some small compensation, there was none! the receptionist more or less implied that the flood was our fault for being out that day. Never once accepting responsibilty for a blocked drain. And the attempted burglary, again not their fault that there was no evening security patrol.
So dear reader, if you go to Westhaven you will be ok as long as you stay in your apartment all day and every day watching the skies for rain and the windows and doors for burglars!
Sadly they don't care, we will not be back!!
