We arranged flights only with Sri Lankan Airlines with the intention of travelling around using public transport. However there was a rail strike. After a few nights at Beruwela we went to Hikkaduwa and stayed at the Coral Bay. Position of the hotel is excellent, right next to the reef - great snorkelling for colourful fish and turtles. We then hired a taxi and went on to Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Sigiriya and Negombo for a very reasonable cost. Our driver (Udith - mobile 0776 266620) was excellent and is highly recommended. He is a safe and careful driver and showed us many places we would not have found on our own. Even if you are not staying in Hikkaduwa he would be pleased to discuss a tour with you and come and pick you up.
