"Ranweli Holiday Village review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
The Ranweli is situated on a narrow strip of land between a river and the sea accessible only by a raft that looks like something from Huckleberry Finn!
The accomodation was superb. Individual bungalows with French doors opening directly to the beach.
The food was good with a different theme each night eg Chinese,Italian etc.alongside the obligatory curries. The only critiscism of the hotel is that torist numbers have suffered because of the tsunami and as a result of this a lot of the evening entertainment was cancelled resulting in a show on only 6 of our 14 nights there. I would hasten to add that this is the only visible result of the tsunami in Waikkal. The area was largely unaffected and remains a beautiful country.
The staff at the hotel could not do enough for you and the local people were very friendly. We were invited to tea by a local family and also invited to attend a festival being held in the local church.
Anthon who has a cafe opposite the hotel entrance organised a two day trip to Kandy and Nuwera Eliya for us at considerably less than Virgin or the hotel were offering. In conclusion I would say if your interested in experiencing a different culture or enjoy chilling out on the beach this is the ideal destination. If your into clubbing to the early hours it's not for you.

"Ranweli Holiday Village review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
This is a great resort to use as a base while you visit the North of the island. Kandy, Dambulla and Sigirya are all within a couple of hours drive. The hotel was very clean, staff helpful and speak good English. Food was OK - always a Sri Lankan curry available as well as other dishes. Didn't cater very well for vegetarians. Resort is very quiet and peaceful, and the clientele was predominantly German whilst we were there. Didn't use the pool much, but the ocean was fantastic. Definately recommend this place for a quiet, peaceful and relaxing holiday.
