Bangkok is a very lively place to visit. The night markets were great for bargains in silk. We had a trip in a tuk tuk which was fun, but before we got in we insisted that the driver took us straight to the Grand Palace, and not to his cousin's shop as he had suggested! We also negotiated a price beforehand. There's lots to see and do in Bangkok and the cost of eating out, taxis and gifts is very cheap.

The Royal Orchid Sheraton was the best hotel that we had the pleasure to stay in, after a three week tour of Australia. The staff are very friendly, pleasant and extremely helpful. The rooms all seem to have a river view, with floor to ceiling windows.

We stayed there Christmas 2007. Hotel was very good, staff were friendly and couldnt do enough for you. Hotel was very clean, all nicely decorated and I loved the low level lighting in the bar area. The breakfast area was tastefully furnished with a very modern look. Again with the low level lighting, the breakfast area was a very nice place to start the day. Lots of choice for breakfast. The only downside to this hotel was the swimming pool and jacuzzi. Swimming pool is up on the roof and it is quite small. It gets very crowded around the pool area so you really have to be up at the crack of dawn if you want a sunbed. The way that the hotel is designed puts the swimming pool under a lot of shade half way through the day so if you have had a morning out sightseeing and you want to come back for a swim and some sunshine you wont get it at the pool. The jacuzzi is also filled with cold water which was a shock as I have always been used to hot jacuzzis. This is also under cover so the sun doesnt even get to warm it up a bit. On the plus side, there is a roof sunbathing area which is great for sunning yourself, but if you get hot you cant cool off unless you go downstairs to the swimming pool. They should install a couple of open air showers to allow yourself to cool off. The other downside to this hotel is that although it is placed on a very busy road (which you dont mind and you get used to) it is very difficult for cars and taxis to get to without going round a complete circle because of the main road being one way. When traffic is bad you can expect a usual 5 minute journey from one end of Sukhumvit road to the other end where the hotel is, to take half an hour or more because of the one way system. A lot of the time, we were getting the taxis to drop us off the opposite side of the road and then walking across the road to the hotel rather than actually being dropped off at the hotel entrance. Even our hotel transfers did this and it wasnt funny trying to cross a main road during rush hour with suitcases. Apart from that everything was great and I do recommend it for location and great hospitality.

We really enjoyed staying at this hotel. It was lovely in the evenings watching the boats up and down the river away from all the bustle and hustle of the big city. Food was excellent and staff very helpful. Recommend the place with a private guide as she took her time and as well as showing the palace she also shown us around the city using different modes of transport and given excellent advice. We also did the thai villiage tour - excellent trip.

on a recent trip 2 bangkok myself and my wife decided to stay at the parkway hotel soi 4.we booked a room 2weeks before we lefted england and recomfirmed before we lefted.on arrival we were told that our room was given 2 someone who had walked in off the street. we were then informed by the front desk staff that this happens all the time.the management then told us we could use one of there condos which when we got there was dirty and not fit 4 humans 2 live in.the management of this hotel is bad they care only on getting bodies in rooms and if u have booked a room this means nothing

This is an excellent hotel ideally situated near the sky train we only spent 2 nights in Bangkok which for us was enough Be aware if you make your own way to the Grand Palace and you are approached by someone who tells you it's closed until 1 o'clock but can get you a tuk tuk to see the Big Bhudda for 20 baht it's a scam You will end up being taken to a jewellers and a tailors shop If you want to eat at a great bistro it's directly across the road fron the hotel called the Grenadine owned by a young Welsh guy superb Thai and English food

Bangkok is somewhere that you will love or hate, personally the smell of pollution and the huge amount of traffic put me off, nevertheless I am glad to have experienced it. However, even if you do not like the city itself you could happily spend a day in the hotel- there was a jacuzzi, a spa, swimming pool and gym all to keep you occupied.
I would strongly recommend a trip to the grand palace, the architecture was amazing and very imposing.

Overall, the hotel and all the members of staff were wonderful, i would strongly recommend it to anyone visiting the city.

Travelled with Emirates, great seat back entertainment, free drinks, not much leg room. Changed planes in Dubai for a welcome stretch of legs and a smoke. Duty free there is great, £5.00 for 200 cigs.
Unless you want to break into your holiday money early, dont use the Irish bar, 1 small glass wine and 1 lager = £12.
Finally reached Bangkok, and were surpised and pleased to be picked up by private car, a Mercedes, with our own tour guide! He made sure our check in at Bel Aire went smoothly, got us upgraded to a deluxe room on 12th floor which was honestly one of the best rooms I have ever stayed in, 2 giant beds, whisper quiet air-con, and a bathroom out of 'House and Home', we didnt pay any more for it but I would recommend paying if neccessary, definitely felt like 5*. Pool lovely and warm and clean.

Bangkok itself is amazing, smelly, humid, busy but I loved it. Not for families with kids though, would not recommend due to heat, traffic and sheer volume of people on the streets all day and night.

Hotel in fantastic location, plenty of food and drink places close by. Golden Palace is a must see, Siam Square for shopping - clothes extremely cheap but think they only go up to a UK size 10 or XXL in Thailand!
Felt extremely safe wandering about at night, one thing did amuse me though.. for the 4 nights we were there I was the only British/white woman in ANY of the bars we went to, they are full of young Thai girls and middle aged (hopefully)single European men. Seriously. A bit seedy really. We were actually stopped from playing pool, we guess this is the way these girls are picked up as the tables are either 2 girls playing, or 1 girl and her white male 'friend'.
Don't let this put you off though, we encountered nothing but friendliness throughout.

We then flew Thai Air to Krabi, once again picked up at airport. Andaman Beach Resort is gorgeous, blends into the landscape. We were in a standard room which we thought was the lowest priced, it turns out the bungalows are - we looked in one, they are tiny with no privacy whatsoever, one couple had to 'upgrade' to the rooms we were given. The Villas look lovely, if youre a bit flush then stay in one - we didnt cos we were on a budget. Hotel food very nice, plenty of fish dishes plus nice wine. Most hotel guests tended to congregate in the Irish bar down the road as the Hotel entertainment is very low key - as it should be in such a lovely part of the world. Oh yes, havent mentioned Klong Muang/Krabi. It is the most beautiful place I have ever been to. We took a boat trip with the lady on the beach - name slips my mind but she is always there. The islands and scenery are breathtaking, I cannot describe how utterly staggering it is.... just go!

Summary

Bangkok - fab fab fab! Forget New York and its rude citizens, head to the Far East.
Klong Muang Beach, Krabi - heaven, tranquil, beautiful.

I have written a few reports on this site, and have always added 'Wouldn't go back, worlds too big' but in this case will make an exception and would go back... tomorrow if I could. The best place I have ever been to... yet!

We began in Bangkok at the Bel-Aire, which is fine for a short city break. A little tired in places but staff great and location good too. Bangkok is simply mad there is no other way to describe it. I would recommend not trying to walk too much as it's not easy to find places, better to go by taxi. Lumphini night market was really good, loads of stalls, more than enough for one visit. Also lots of food places too.

Next stop Chiang Mai. The pace is a lot slower, and it's cheaper too. Amari is very nice, very friendly. We spent a couple of late nights in the bar outnumbered by the bar staff and musicians. Night market is huge, we would have liked more time in the furniture/wood carving bits which is in the main building itself. Elephant trekking is super, the show maybe a little too contrived but being with the animals was wonderful.

Going to Ko Samui we wished we had taken the direct flight instead of via Bangkok. Bangkok Airways are great though, free food and drinks while waiting at the gate.Samui is very chilled and life at the Boathouse and Choeng Mon especially so. There are several nice beach bars and the atmosphere in the evenings with tables on the beach is lovely. Having said that Bongoes and one other are going to be knocked down and replaced by a new 5 star hotel next year so that may change things a little. The sea is not so good for snorkelling here, better go on a day trip out to one of the islands.

All in all a wonderful time, the Thais are lovely in nearly all cases and you can't really go wrong. Shopping kept the teenagers happy, prices are very cheap for most things. If you are having any doubts, don't.just go
