Spent 2 nights at Holiday Inn Bangkok, upgraded to Executive room on 26th floor. Fantastic view over city, room bigger than ground floor at home, every conceivable extra.Very central position walking distance to Patpong market and nightlife. Must go to Radio City bar in Patpong, fantastic 8 piece live band of good professional musicians who can play anything from pop to classic.

Moved on for 10 nights at Regent resort Cha-am, large (700 rooms) hotel with good clean air con rooms right by beach.Good selecton of resturants in hotel but a bit pricey. One very nice touch by the hotel was the provision of a surprise personalised birthday cake for my wife, it was in our room when we returned mid afternoon on her birthday. They must note any birthdays off the passports when checking in.We had a slight problem with the front plate becoming loose on the power point but when we phoned reception they sent someone to repair it within 10 mins.For cheaper good food and drink go out of hotel onto beach , turn right walk 200 yards and try Wan's Place. freshly cooked meal costs about £1.50, Drinks lot cheaper as well. While you're there try the massage, very relaxing.Hotel runs a shuttle bus to Hua-Hin on regular basis, well worth the visit for good night market and food on a pier over the sea.Not really a lot to do at the resort itself but it is a wonderful place just to relax totally. This was our 3rd time to the Regent so this speaks for itself.

Summary: Wonderful country, wonderful people, wonderful service and value.
