The Royal Orchid Sheraton was the best hotel that we had the pleasure to stay in, after a three week tour of Australia. The staff are very friendly, pleasant and extremely helpful. The rooms all seem to have a river view, with floor to ceiling windows.

Bangkok is a very lively place to visit. The night markets were great for bargains in silk. We had a trip in a tuk tuk which was fun, but before we got in we insisted that the driver took us straight to the Grand Palace, and not to his cousin's shop as he h...

This hotel situated on the river was an ideal base for travelling to all the suburbs of Bangkok. Very comfortable rooms and very pleasant staff. We made use of all the different modes of transport taxi, tuk tuk, boat and sky train. Make sure you agree a price for the tuk tuk and the taxis to put on their meter. Eating out is very cheap. Found a great Irish bar called The Dubliner in one of the suburbs and the food was great too. Very bustling city but a great eye opener.

We went to Thailand on honeymoon, for the first part of our holiday we had 4 nights in Bangkok. We had a tower room which overlooks the river. Breakfast is included if you stay in a tower room but the rooms do not have balcony's. We pre booked a 4 trip excursion package with Kuoni - excellent value at 38 pounds and this still left enough time to explore on our own.
Hotel is lovely two pools and both very clean, drinks a little pricey but as you would expect for this class of hotel. Kuoni top class - the rep was on hand everday for tips and advice, no wonder they are always winning awards as best tour operator, this was the best company I have travelled with and we have used quite a few.
Mu Thai (boxing) is a must but don't bother with an excursion, the front desk will give you venues and times and just go along yourselves, its cheaper and you are not committed to a group. Tuk Tuks are fun but have no set price so bartering is the order of the day! Taxi's are on the meter and cheap, about 2 or three pounds will get you just about anywhere! They are cheaper than the Tuk Tuks and also air conditioned!
Everywhere you go someone will try to drag you off to a tailors, show no interest at all or they wont leave you alone! Shopping is fun - Patpong night market is the place to go - usual bartering rules apply - start at a third of the asking price and settle for half. Suprisingly everything shuts at about 1 am.
Grand palace is a must again its easy to do yourself. Eating in the hotel was expensive in our opinion but outside of the hotel we were getting a meal for two for around 8 pounds. Bangkok is a busy and bustling place, the people are very friendly and extremely polite. We felt it to be a safe city - watch out for the ladyboys though!

Sawasdee Ka!!! Bangkok is THE craziest place on the planet! Everybody must visit it once in their lifetime! We stayed at the Royal Orchid Sheraton for 3 nights and were very pleased with the hotel and the staff, they are all so friendly in Thailand. The hotel itself is very grand. It has a few restaurants, 2 pools, gym and a spa (very expensive!). The rooms were lovely and had just been refurbished. Overall the hotel was the definately worth 5 stars. There is so much to say about bangkok that i would be here for a month writing about it so here are just a few things...
1. Get a suit tailor made, they are so cheap and great quality.
2. Go to Patpong market at night to see the madest place on earth!
Go to Joes bar on the main strip near Patpong market and have sone cocktails, i was drunk off 4 and the people are so nice!
3. Ride on tuk tuks at night when drunk, its the funniest thing, but dont ride them during the day as you get stuck in traffic jams and inhale lots of car fumes.
4. Ride on a longtail boat down the canals and see how the thai people live in the little huts, you will visit the snake farm on this trip...
5. If possible stay with the same taxi meter driver for all of your time in bangkok, ours called Mr.Yo was so nice and he chauffered us around for 6 hours one day for about £15 but being the nice people we are, we gave him £25, he was so appreciative. What a nice guy.
6. Learn a couple of phrases before you get their, they really appreciate it.
above all, be prepared to be shocked everyday by something else, its mad, and laugh at having a slap up meal for 2 for around £10!!! Oh, and don't forget to SMILE!!!!
