We returned to the hotel for the third time in four years and were pleased to find that nothing had changed, (The hotel was previously part of the Le Meriden Group and had left the group 1 week earlier).
The staff are more than helpful but not intrusive - only concerned with making your holiday a wonderful experience.
Three restaurants are available but due to the hotel only been 50% occupied only two were open - not a problem! The Promenade by the beach is a super way to spend an evening - good food, by the beach, listening to the sea, the Lom Talay which is set in the 'main' part of the hotel overlooking the sea is also wonderful. There is a wide choice, both Thai and European, all served beautifuly and worth working through the menu!
The Verandah bar also looksout to sea and is a wonderful place to watch the sun set, there is a 'Happy Hour' between 6.30 and 7.30p.m. so do take advantage, well worth it for the photos.
There are two main pools, one by the beach and one on the hillside and plenty of others dotted around the grounds - never a problem finding a bed and a brolly, towels, iced water and fruit kebabs are given out on a regular basis.
We were in a deluxe room in the main building which has fabulous views,
plenty of room and all the facilities you need to enjoy your stay. Last year we had a villa which was fab but you do need to be fit as the hotel is on the hillside and depending where your are there is some 'climbing' to be done and plenty of steps! (There are golf buggies around if you don't want to walk)
There is not much outside the hotel grounds within walking distance but the hotel provides daily shuttle buses to Nathon and Chaweng. Nathon is not as commercial as Chaweng but worth a look. Chaweng gets busier and noisier each year but has some great places to eat and shop so is worth at least one visit.
Once again we had a wonderful time and look forward to returing soon.

The resort is a busy one - one long road with everything you need on that road. The traffic is busy - particularly at night - mainly with scooters and taxis (the jeep-type ones are very cheap for getting around the resort and will stop wherever you want - just agree the price with the driver beforehand).
Hotel Baan Samui is in a very central position. The hotel is set between the road and the beach and has it's own bit of beach. The air-conditioned rooms are in a garden, away from the traffic noise. The only down-side is that the electric lighting is subdued, however during daylight hours there is plenty of natural light. The rooms are cleaned every day.
The staff are brilliant - very friendly and helpful and the breakfasts worth getting up for (served until 10.30 am).
We hired a jeep for 3 days (about 1000 baht a a day). Once outside Chaweng, the traffic isn't a problem. Well worth doing if you want to see a bit of the island at your own pace. They also drive on the left.

Have been to Thailand many times, but first time to Koh Samui. The hotels we have always stayed in in Thailand have always been of very high quality as most hotels there always are.We always try to go no less than a 4 * wherever we go abroad as we feel you always have a good standard of accomodation, especially in Thailand where you can read a 4* as equivelent to a 5* and a 5* as a palace!!
However on this occasion we plumped for a 3* as the hotel location and facilities seemed just right. In fact as the resort of Koh Samui is centered on one through main road, this hotel was centrally placed so it was perfect for being in the centre of everything.
The hotel is a bed and breakfast one and I have to say the breakfast is second to none. The choice is fantastic and everything is replenished as quickly as it runs out, the hot food choices were always piping hot and the selection of fruits etc. were beautifully served. Omlettes cooked to order and nothing too much trouble. There was something for all tastes and cultures.
The hotel itself was rather basic, but very clean although the rooms were a little dark. They promise you the balconies are very private but in fact they all look over each other. The hotel staff were all extremely friendly and helpful as we have always found Thai people to be.The beach is a beautiful sandy beach, each hotel have their own areas, lots of stray dogs there though but they are all used to people and friendly in fact no trouble at all as long as you don`t mind dogs !
Lots of wonderful eating places tried different ones every night as so much to choose from and never found a bad one, everything there is so cheap.
We hired a jeep just for a day, went into the jungle area, was probably more for `stunt drivers` but my husband managed exceedingly well! Would probably advise anyone else to have jeep for a couple of days as you can pretty much see everything in that time especially if you want to explore other little villages etc.
Will definatly go back to Koh Samui again one day as it is a beautiful island and very tropical. However don`t think we would stay at the Baan Samui as there were so many other hotels there that looked beautiful. Staff wise though it would probably be difficult to match the wonderful people there who helped to make our holiday so enjoyable.
