I had to think for a few minutes if I could think of anything wrong with this hotel.I was wasting my time because I can't think of anything!
The hotel is situated on the main Chaweng road and faces onto the beach. The hotel is an oasis of calm with no noise leaking onto the property atall. The location on the busy street is great and gives a real feel of the buzz of Asia while feeling completely safe. After driving around the island I would say this location had the best of everything. The whole hotel is immaculately kept and the gardens are stunning. The staff stop as you walk past them and bow...........takes a bit of getting used to.
The hotel is made up of various cottages and in small blocks. We stayed in the superior room above the central pool. The room was airy and well proportioned with the bathroom being well designed and functional. The room had a fridge ,colour tv and a dvd.It had satellite access and a good selection of uk channels including some decent movie channels. The DVD recorder succeeded in playing any cheap dvd's found down Chaweng road(100 baht). The room was next to the beautiful central pool which was immaculate and a beautiful temperature. It had a bar built into the pool which was reasonably priced and staffed by the most courteous and friendly barstaff you would ever meet.
The main pool led down to the beach and was equally pleasant but perhaps a little bit more exposed to the sun. There was about 90 beds on the private part of the beach owned by the hotel staffed by security who kept any unwelcome hawkers etc away. The beach loungers were semi-sheltered by the sort of curving palm trees you seen on postcards but nowhere else.
We had breakfast at the beachside restaurant which had everything you could want from exotic fruits to full English to thai curries, noodles, fried rice and suprisingly bread pudding.
In the evening the beach restaurants were better value, and there were many particulary to the right of the hotel. They all served on candlelit tables everything from traditional thai to roast dinners.A typical meal for four with drinks was about £20.Lobster seemed a bit expensive at about £15 but the prawns and rock lobster were cheap and plentiful.
The hotel is about 1/2 hour from anywhere on the island so rather than do a couple of trips it's a good idea to visit a few places on various days and avoid the midday heat. The best things to see were the Big Buddha, elephant riding, buffalo riding, the tiger and bird show, swimming with the sealions(a bit expensive)but good, and not to be missed the day trip to the Nature reserve islands. The day trip can best be arranged at the port of Nathon(on the pier) where it is cheaper than using the reps, and we managed to get a kid for free.On the day you go out on a speed boat to the islands where you go snorkeling along the reefs ,sea kayaking, visit deserted islands and trek up to see a natural lake. They provide all the gear and lots of towels and great food.Totally unmissable and good value.
We really enjoyed out time at Koh samui but it probably is pushing it finding things to do for 2 weeks. It would be a great place to tie in with 3 days at Hong Kong as Bangkok airways now flies directly to Hong Kong from Samui.
This place is great, can't wait to go back.

rooms spacious and immaculate, the grounds are also very impressive. Own private beach with security, although the hawkers oblige if you say no thank you. The pools also deserve a mention, as they were spotless, cannot say anything bad about this hotel, which is quite rare, as i complain about anything. The staff are all very helpfull and informative, the chap who turns your bed down is a character. Felt really safe and secure in this establishment, even on the busy road outside, you would not believe the noise outside from bars, traffic and people in general, however, as soon as you enter the hotel Silence!
Loads of places to eat, drink and be merry! breakfast in the hotel well worth getting up for, something for everyone. Also, try the corn on the cob and fresh pineapple that is available from the beach, the lady is gorgeous, just like her food! Would deffo go back to chewang regent if visiting Koh samui again, however, been twice now, so trying pattaya in november, hope its as good as my previous experiences of thialand.

I have to say that this was the best holiday ever!
When we first arrived at Koh Samui, we were stunned, the airport was 2 seperate thatched roof buildings and you were transported from the airplane to the ";terminal"; on a little mini train - FAB!! It took 15 minutes to get to Chaweng from the airport and the scenery is stunning. When we first arrived outside the hotel i thought "; Oh my gosh, what have we booked "; because the hotel reception area is right on the main Chaweng road which is really busy. However, once inside the staff bring you an icy cold juice drink and a cold flannel, which in temperatures of 35 degrees was well needed!
The staff are so friendly its unbelievable they'll do anything to make your stay enjoyable. As we were on our honeymoon, they had upgraded our room and had also put on the notice board that the hotel welcomes Mr + Mrs.... that was really nice touch.
All the grounds are very lush and tropical with the accomodation dotted around the gardens. Once you are inside the reception area and complex, it is so quiet you wouldn't think that you are on the main Chaweng strip. There are 2 pools, 1 has pool bar. Both are big and at night are lit up.
The beach is really nice and stretches round the whole of the chaweng strip with watersports available further down. The only bad thing was that when you are lying on your lounger, tradesmen walk past shouting at you to buy their goods, which although some are really nice and cheap can get a bit annoying. However, there is a red line on the ground away from the loungers which they are not allowed to cross and there are security guards there to make sure they don't hassle you too much.
The breakfast is great and there is a lot of choice for everybody. In the evenings, you can make a reservation to have speciality meals ( different every night ) and you can eat on the beach which we did for the seafood barbecue. The rooms are spacious and ours had a plunge bath overlooking the pool area - not much hot water though to have one!!
The resort itself is quite commercialised with a McDonalds, Pizza hut and Starbucks and there are also a few drag bars which do have some good shows, although hold on to your man because if they take a fancy to him, they don't care if the woman is sat next to him or not!! Well worth going to see though.
Plenty of restaurants and food is sooo cheap, especially if you like your seafood. They lay the fish out in boats filled with ice and you go and pick exactly what you want and they cook it staright away for you. Everything is fresh from that days catch and is delicious. Koh Samui is famed for being a coconut island so most of the thai stuff is very coconutty.
Nightlife ranges from quite bars to disco bars towards the back of the resort - none of this can be heard in the hotel. Plenty of stalls and market shops but make sure your barter and you can get some fantastic deals. Cd stalls sell brand new albums for £1 each and although not the genuine article, we bought about 20 and none of them were faulty and were very good quality.
We hired a jeep for a day and it cost £15 - we went all round the island and went off the beaten track where we found some stunning scenery and beaches that are just deserted. Well reccomended to go to Big Buddah in the north of the island and to koh samui zoo in the south where you can have your photo taken with a tiger. If anybody likes scuba diving there are some fantastic dive sites around the island - sail rock being the best dive i have ever doe with visisbilty of around 25mts. Go to Silent divers and they will arrange everything for you.
Highly reccomended hotel/resort will definatly return for our anniversary. Tradewinds local staff are very helpful and couldn't fault any part of the holiday from start to finish.
