All the staff are so professional, friendly and polite. Both pools are great. We stayed in a one bedroom villa suite which was brilliant - you can't beat having your own pool (you're not overlooked so you can go naked if you like!). In hindsight we would have got a sala pool villa instead as we don't think it's worth the extra money for a one bedroom villa suite (the only extra thing you get is a tiny extra room which has an extra television in it). The bed is comfortable and a good size.

The bathroom is good as it has a roof but no walls so you feel like you're out in the open.

It's right on the beach which is nice soft sand and clean water.

I liked the location of the Sala Samui as it's away from the noise of Chaweng but close enough to get a taxi there in the evening.

Internet is free there too which is handy

Would definitely recommend and go back.

Enjoy!!

We did 3 nights in Bangkok and 11 nights in Koh Samui for our honeymoon and we could not have made better choices of hotels or resorts.

The Landmark is a very westernised hotel with fantastic foyer and great views of Bangkok. It is located next to the Skytrain station (Naan) on the Sukhumvit Rd in the heart of Bangkok, which makes it very accessible for such a sprawling city. The hotel is immaculately clean and offers a choice of excellent restaurants. There is also a pub in the basement, which has a fantastic group playing on Friday nights. The breakfast buffet is 'to die for' with a huge selection of hot and cold dishes.

There is a pool on the 9th floor and gym facilities for hotel guests.

The Sala Samui in Choeng Mon, Koh Samui is just fantastic from A-Z. We were fortunate enough to stay in one of the pool villas which comprised a large double bedroom superbly equipped with DVD, TV, air conditioning and safety deposity box (free). It had a seperate open air bathroom with toilet, shower and large oval bath. It also had an external lounge bed, 2 sun loungers on the patio, and a 6m x 3m private pool. All of this was surrounded by a wall to ensure total privacy.
It was about 30m from two communal pools, one a lotus pool with massage beds, the other a swimming pool. There were plenty of sun loungers constantly attended to by a team of pool attendants.
The restaurant / bar - surrounding the pool, and its very friendly staff was absoultely first class, with a great selection of thai, seafood and western dishes at reasonable prices (compared to UK).

The massages according to my wife were excellent, however we thought they were a bit overpriced.
The beautiful beach with its warm clear waters was just a stones throw from the beach area....
It is very much a hotel for couples who are looking to relax, and not really family orientated. Infact it would do well to become exclusively child free as there is nothing much to cater for kids. But for honeymooners looking to enjoy peaceful surroundings with great accommodation and fantastic food I could'nt recommend it highly enough. Its really a 5 star hotel at 4 1/2 star prices as it does not have gym and only has one restaurant, so it gets downgraded.

The only negative...and it is only a minor complaint is that the shower facilities after you have checked out to go home are inadequate and not very private as they double up being the the communal toilets for the pool. Overall I would give the Sala Samui 11 out of 10...

Choeng Mon itself is not very lively, having only a couple of large hotels, a 7/11, chemists, banks and a handful of shops....but it is only a 250 baht (4 quid taxi ride) to Chaweng which is a huge, but very smelly resort, stretching some 7km, with a huge range of shops, bars and restaurants. Our favourite restaurants (and we tried a few!) were the Long Table for fresh seafood, Pickles for great barbecue, Kantara at the Blue Lagoon Hotel for posh nosh. We tried Prego for Italian and although its a lovely restaurant and inexpensive, we did'nt think much of the food. Red Snapper is also very good - although we did'nt have chance to try this...The Islander pub was a favourite haunt for drinks and everyone must check out Christy's caberet, which is a ladyboy show, but its absolutely hilarious.

All in all it was a great honeymoon experience....

this was one of the best holidays we have been on. the resort pools, food and drink were very good, our pool villa was fantastice very clean and luxurious. the beach was great and the local bars and restaurants were good too, but food not as good as in the sala. staff very friendly and helpfull. the only negative thing was as everyone has mentioned the spa treatments were very expensive. aparantly another sala is being built in pukhet, which we would defiantely be visiting when finished, thailand is a fantastic place and we would definately recommend it to anyone, bangkok was very lively, interesting too, fantastic holiday.

Stayed at the Sala Samui Jan/Feb 2005

The Sala Samui resort is fantastic and finished, couldn't ask for a better holiday, ten days of pure bliss, yes it's new, the staff are new and they need time to get to grips with understanding English but I didn't go on holiday to find the negatives. I whent with the intentions of having a great time and I did. The construction site I am sure will be finished in no time, they did wonders in the short time we were there and it didn't impact on our holiday at all.

I got a tour of and took photos of the president suite, wow you lucky peeps if you are staying in one of those, fantastic bedrooms, bathrooms and pool area, you are really lucky. The president suites had two lots of peeps staying in them whilst we were there and we spoke to some of them, they were delighted with the standard ect.

We didn't use the spa, found it very expensive, the massages in town or on the beach were very good and far cheaper. I think my hubby said the spa treatments start at about 30 pound sterling {I will let you all do your own conversions lol}, I cannot remember how much the meals cost in the hotel, we only had 2 dinners there but I do know you can walk down the beach and pay around a quater to half the price for the same thing. I did like the lunch menu, still expensive compared to nearby cafe's ect but about the same as other hotels, resorts. The hotel will arrange any trips you want, they are only too happy to help in any way they can.

The beach is fab, it's not too busy near the Sala, it's a lot cleaner than some of the other beaches I saw. The people at reception are very attentive, they go out of their way to help with all requests. I am glad I upgraded to a Sala villa as these seem to be slightly bigger and nearer the beach, though the others are not too far away either.

The hotel needs too update it's web site to include the fantastic pools, most days we had one or other pool to ourselves. We only saw a handful of kids the whole time we were there, most parties seem to be couples, I don't think the hotel is really intended for kids though it did make them welcome. I think having private pools in the villas might put some parents off, but there are the Balcony rooms. I must say having a holiday without hundreds of kids running round the pool was bliss for us, I love kids, have grown up kids myself but wow it was sooo nice having peace and quite whilst lazing in the sun.

Oh BTW, internet access at the hotel is free, maximum 1 hour but you can sit there all day igf no one else is waiting to use the pc's.

The minibar is well stocked with soft drinks, beer, fruit juice ect plus you get a tray next to the minibar with half bottles of spirits including, brandy, whiskey, vodka ect. Every night a staff member comes in about 7pm to turn your beds down, pull the blinds down, change towels, empty bins, replenish tea and coffee and leave you a little bowl of local sweets. Natural env friendly mozzie fogging is used at dusk each night throughout the resort.

Before I left I asked if the hotel had a brochure, they did and gave me a couple. If you are going to stay at the Sala ask for a brochure on day 1, it is full of info and a map of the resort. It wasn't untill I looked at the map when I returned home that I realised I had completley overlooked exploring the spa building!!!!! Hubby and I thouight the spa area and rooms near the pool were the spa, but looking at the map we now understand these are the salas and massage areas the spa is near reception lol lol. Not that we would have used the hotel spa, the prices were far to expensive, but it would have been nice to just go and have a look. Can I just add something, I know I missed seeing the spa, however, I have just read in the brochure that there is a ''swim up bar'' I know I did not see a swim up bar anywhere, so please if anyone is going to the resort please let me know if you find one lol.

Sala villas: We stayed in Sala villa 9

First of all, none of the villas are on the beach, if you want a sea view you will need to go for the president villa or perhaps the 1 or 2 bed pool villas. The Sala villas are lovely. It appears from the map that the order goes like this from the beach front to the back end near reception, beach row = president suite and 1/2 bed pool villas then Sala villas, then garden then balcony rooms. The best located Sala villas were in my view numbers 10, 27 and 16 and 9 there is little difference really in location of the villas it's just that I liked being on the main path to the beach cos I get lost in strange places lol.

The villas are not claustraphobic in my view, plenty of space for 2 people and the garden plants take the edge of the walls, which were not a problem at all. How often do you get to use the loo and have real bannana plants with growing bannanas on them to look at lol. The villas do get the sun at different times of the day, we got the sun during the afternoon/eve OMG we just loved getting back from the beach/pool or trips and jumping into our own pool sipping something cool from the minibar with music playing on the villa cd player :] You cannot help but chill out.

The possitive things about the resort for me included:
* Privacy, no neighbours peeking over the villa wall
* No hoards of screaming kids :]
* No unruley drunken Brits lol {don't take offence I am a Brit}
* New, clean, modern and stylish villas with many extra facilities
* Our very own pool for 10 days
* Smallish and very friendly resort, in a lovely location on Choengmon Beach
* Choengmon Beach = very clean and not too crowded around the resort area, liked it far more than Chaweng beach
* The swimming pools are the best I have seen anywhere, in particular the lap pool it looks like a big block of beautiful marble when no-one is swimming in it, fantastic.

Ok now the niggly bits {not Negatives}
* The gift shop was shut, due to open 2 weeks after we left
* The entrance needs some lighting {I am sure this will be sorted when the construction work next door to the resort is finished} BTW, the construction work did not impact in any way on our holiday
That's all the negatives I can think of, well for me anyway.

Hope this helps a little. If you are going to the Sala Samui, enjoy. I know I did.
