Pattaya is classed as the seediest part of Thailand, don't believe it, we are going back for the 4th time in June 2008.

My Husband and I have just honeymooned in Pattaya, Thailand at the Dusit Resort Hotel and have to say we have had an absolutely wonderful time. I heavily rely on other peoples reviews when I want to book holidays so I want to give as much helpful info as possible.
The Dusit is wonderful. Not cheap to eat or drink in but high quality. Rooms are a bit dated as others have said but a very good size, clean, good bathrooms and towels / drinking water and toiletries are changed daily (even toothbrushes) and they bring fresh fruit to your room daily (even leaving a flower on your pillow). We had a superior sea view room and it was quite a view. TV's have 3 movies channels so you can usually find a film to watch if you want a night in. Quite reasonable room service if you come in, as we did at 1:30 in the morning, with the munchies.
You may have heard there is building works on at the moment. They will not affect your holiday and are not that bad at all. Do use it as an excuse to ask for a room upgrade or something as we did. Honeymooners get a bottle of champagne on arrival too! Staff are amazingly friendly there, as is true all over the resort.
They have a big pool and the lagoon pool and they supply you with 2 towels at poolside, one for you and one to lie on. The Dusit is up the quiet end of Pattaya beach so you can avoid the going's on of walking street (go go bars) if you want.
All write up's of Pattaya will go on about the lady boys and the thai girl go go bars. Go with an open mind as Thailand does manage these industries very well and you will not feel threatened or bothered by it at all. On the contrary it is an interesting culture to see. Husbands and partner will not be approached (unless they have left the other half at home!). It takes awhile to get used to bartering and they will try it on.
There is much advice I could give but the best is talk to other holidayers when you're there. We got so much advice passed on by those that had been there a week already and everyone is so friendly. Don't let the Baht buses rip you off. 10baht (about 8p) per person is all they charge. When you hail one just jump straight on the back and ring the bell when you're ready to get off. Give them the 10 baht or 20 if you feel you've gone quite a way and leave. The minute you negotiate with the driver they see you coming and rip you off! Be firm in shops as well as they will ask for outrageous prices at first. Stick to your guns and ask for a fair price. Walking away if you're not happy is always a good way of forcing them to accept your price.
There are many good day trips. About 3 different ways to see and ride elephants. We recommend going to Non Nooch village as you get to see many other things as well as ride an elephant and see an elephant show, like hold a tiger cub and have a photo with an orang-utan. Bangkok day out is fab too.long boat up the Bangkok river.
Thai people are great but the Indian's along the front selling custom made suits get in your face a bit. They'll try to shake your hand but tell them you're not interested and walk on. We were told the cheap custom suits were bad quality so be careful, if you want one made, find a good place. We can recommend Paul's on 2nd street.
I could say so much more but just go, have a great time and make friends, the rest will become obvious! (by the way in May it never goes under about 34 degrees even in the evening so that Dusit air conditioning was excellent)

We had a fabulous time at our stay in Dusit resort, pattaya. The hotel is gorgeous. Has a fab reception with a huge clockdial in marble in the centre of the hotel lobby area, its impressive. There are tree's, plants and little waterfall in reception also and its so pretty. There are loads of lovely flowers and lights around the garden areas. The pool area is clean and had plenty of loungers when we were there, the staff used to come round on roller blades offering you drink and food. We had lunch a couple of times in the restaurant and werent disappointed. We went to the Chinese in the hotel 3 times, although a bit more pricey than the main street in Pattaya, it was well worth it as the food was divine and the staff are lovely. The bar in the hotel is pleasant and we visited there everynight before and after our meals whether we ate in the hotel or out. There was a band playing (cant remember if it was every night), they were very good, easy listening relaxing music and always did requests for you. Cocktails were yummy too.
Hotel rooms were clean and well maintained. Room service came every day and even came to turn your bed down at night and leave a chocolate on your pillow. You had 2 bottles of water put in your fridge every day free of charge.
Reception staff helpful and we changed our travellers cheques there no problem.
Would definitely visit this hotel again.
I didnt realise the transfer was so long from Bangkok airport, we did get picked up in a taxi but the journey still took 3 hours as Bangkok was so busy at rush hour. Was so glad to get the hotel, was so hot in the taxi thought I was gonna die, made me feel ...

Well 2 of us had been to Thailand before, Bankok and Phuket. We were looking forward to going back as we feel this is the best place in the world we have been to so far.
Pattaya is very different to both places. It is very built up. More so then we expected. However although it is very sleazy with lots of working girls, we had a fantastic holiday. This is not a family destination. We are all old codgers but even we had an education, and saw things we had never seen before. But it did cause many laughs. The People are fantastic, the food wonderful with resturants cater for every taste. Very cheap. The Dusit is lovely, rooms large and clean. The staff are fantastic and soon get to know you. If you are open minded, not easily shocked then go. I can't say we would go back but we seldom do as there is a huge world out there but we met people who had returned to the Dusit for many years.
