Woodlands is a 3 star only not as advertised as 4 star. Meals and drinks in the hotel are approx twice as much as outside. Try to get a room without an adjoining door (these are used for families etc) as noise travels through these doors. We were kept awake on 4 different nights because of this and we met two other couples who had similar experiences. Do not bother complaining to reception, they do nothing about it.
Recommendations:
For laundry use the LT cafe opposite and 50 yards up the hill. Take it in late afternoon and it is ready by next morning, about £3 for a big bag full and it all comes back ironed.
Visit Carrefore Supermarket, the prices of watches, t shirts etc are cheaper there than on the markets, stalls, shops etc in town and you do not have to spend ages bartering.
Try the sea-food restaurent next to the hotel, I had a large lobster with rice and four beers and it came to less than £4!

We found the Hotel spotlessly clean and the staff were excellent especially the Bell-Boys who knew everything about the Hotel.Only a couple of things let it down, the lower of the two pools had too much chlorine in it - it made your eyes sting! and there were no instructions in our superior room on how to adjust the air conditioning. For it to work you have to set it to 19 degrees or above even though the controller goes down to 15 degrees else the computer throws a wobbly and shuts it down. Our first night was very hot!
The food in the hotel was good and We'd recommend La Baguette coffee shop at the entrance for a light lunch of freshly made baguettes, sandwiches and very nice pastries.
Pattaya itself is very much in your face at night but It is good for wandering around the shops and malls during the day when you don't get too much hassle from the stall-holders and Tailors. One thing to watch out for is pick-pockets. I got relieved of 8000 Baht by a gang of Girls (with a baby!!!)in a Pick-up Taxi and we then spent 2 hours in two Police Stations making statements which have to be translated into Thai. Our Travel Insurance Company will love that!

The Woodlands resort was in the centre and close to all bars, clubs, shops and restraunts.
I would reccomend this hotel to anyone as it caters for all, but i would say do upgrade your room from standard as they are a bit shabby.
We went in September 2003 and the weather was nice but not suntan weather, we had a bit of rain aswell.
Also go to Coral Island as the beach was lovley and it is a nice day out to sunbath and see the locals there.
We hired a bike to get around but it was a bit dangerous on the roads, they really are mad.
We are both going back in June 04 but to Koh Samui as Pattaya was a bitr in your face.
