What can you say about Pattaya ? It's brash, it's tacky and it's in your face. Blackpool, Benidorm and Soho all rolled into one. If you're looking for a nice quiet holiday with culture it's not for you. However saying that we had a brilliant time after the initial shock. Pattaya is the place where anything goes no matter what your prefrence is however watching the lady boys going up and down ";Walking Street"; is entertainment in itself. Pattaya is a great place for people watching.
The Roayal Cliff Beach is a luxurious resort set in 64 acres of tranquility with about 10 restuarants and 6 bars and 3 pools alongwith it's own health club and Spas. It is set about 20 mins walk from Pattaya but is uphill on a headland. It is great if you want to totally relax and are quite happy to stay around the pools and use the facilities. We loved our room which was in the Royal Cliff Terrace Building and had loungers on the balcony. We only felt the need to go to the pool once in 10 days. We didn't use any of the restuarants only the coffee shop so I can't comment on the food.
The bar in the main building had live entertainment each nights which was reflected in the price of the drinks. We preffered venturing into Pattaya itself. Good eating places include "; Rosie O'Grady's"; Irish Bar which served large portions of pub style food but in a restuarant atmosphere. Also a good place for having a few drinks, try a ";Rosie's Raver"; !!We also really enjoyed a little Belgian Restuarant at the end of ";Walking Street"; close to Siam Bayshore Hotel. Good food at a reasonable price. On Walking Street there is a few good seafood restuarant which also serve Thai and other dishes. We preffered the Lobster Pot which was on a boardwalk overlooking the old harbour. Can't remember all the bars and restuarants we used but in 10 days we never had a bad meal.
The next resort to Pattaya is Jomtien beach which we went to several times. This felt more like a Gulf Coast beach resort and although there were still some Go-Go bars they were not ";in your face"; This resort would be more suited to families. Again the restuarants here were very good. Beware of the local taxis which are really just open backed trucks. They are very cheap however as a tourist they will charge you double what the locals are charged !
We would consider going back to Pattaya however would look to stay neare the city. The Siam Bayshore would look a good option as it is convenient to Walking Street hwere a lot of bars and restuarants are but would be far enough away from any noise. A good tip before coming home is to take you clothes to a laundry. Excellent value, 34 items washed dried and ironed for under £4 can't be bad !! Although why wash you clothes when you can shop until you drop buying new ones. Copy designer t shirts at 5 for 1000 bahts, less if you haggle. Ladies shoes £4 a pair, handbags £2. Remember and leave plenty of room in your case !!

After the terrible events of the tsunami, and orignally booking a holiday in Phuket, the only alternaive we could get was the Royal Cliff Beach Hotel at Pattaya. It was very stressful as we had booked a months holiday and were due to travel three days after the tsunami, so we jumped at an alternative offer from Tropical Places, who I might add were very helpful and really worked hard to find us an alternative holiday.
The Royal Cliff Resort is huge, very smart and quite impersonal. Although we were there for a month, apart from the pool side waiters/esses we really did not get to know anyone. What british tourists do not realise is that during january ALL the other guests in the hotel are Russian. The Russians are okay, but you can not talk to anyone or get friendly with them.I was told by the staff that february is the british month, so my advice would be - go then.
Back to the hotel, which is very good, although by Thai standards extremely expensive. The breakfast buffet worked out to £12 each per day each !!. We bought sandwiches in the bakery at the hotel for a fraction of that price. DO NOT EAT OR DRINK at the hotel, terribly expensive, although on the few occasions that we did, the food was good.
Pattaya town, which is accessed by Baht Bus (average fare 100 bahts) could be compared with Saigon during the Vietnam War, except you substitute American Soldiers for European Male Tourists - S*x City!!!! - as an middle aged English Woman I thought that I was fairly open minded, but this has to be seen to be believed - really sordid, although in some respects an experience you will never forget. Restarants are not that great, nothing but live s*x shows and Go-Go bars and cheap tack on sale.
We went on a two day trip to the River Kwai, and it was wonderful, beautiful scenery, very moving history at the War Cementery in Kanchanburi and a lovely time staying on a floating bungalow in in Sam Roi National Park. Do try to make the time to do this trip - it's worth the effort. Damern Saduek - floating market was also good fun.
All in all, we had a very relaxing holiday in a lovely hotel, but I must say I would not go back because Pattaya is just too seedy, what with all the pr*titution, aids clinics, Boyz Town!!, and dirty old european men.

The welcome at the resort was great - smiling, helpful staff and a qucik check-in. The resort is actually 4 different hotels and you get use of all the facilities - so we tried many of the restaurants and found the seafood particularly good. Room was spacious and comfortable and ours had a great seaview. For getting into the action in Pattaya, you just flag down a 'baht bus' outside and off you go - although we seemed to pay more than the locals for this. Will certainly go back to this hotel - had a wonderful 2 weeks!

resort has 5 pools and 10 restaurants !!!
meals can be expensive however we bought croissants for 25baht and cheese or ham rolls for 50 baht these are sold at a counter by coffee shop so you can take these down to the private beach 2 min walk..fabulous. the service in the hotel was just amazing .. nothing was too much trouble..would return tomorrow!!!!
Pattaya town is a bit of an eye-opener with go go bars everywhere..you have too see it to bekeive it .

Hotel was fantastic very clean and can't do enough for you! The beach in Pattaya not very nice I suggest not to swin there, but you can get a speed boat over to an island (about £10 for 6 people) they will wait for you at the island then take you back to Pattaya! Islands are out of this world!
Shopping is brilliant, I suggest if you go then don't pack anything in your suitcase! Shopping malls are great and extremley cheap!
When on beaches be very careful if you wanna go on jet ski's make sure you check there's petrol in and no bumps or scrapes on. We went on and they said that we had crashed the jet ski and tried to make us pay £150 we argued but there is nothing you can do, we ended up paying £80 for nothing! Other than that you can have a fab time on the beach relaxing and getting a massage / manicure etc.
All in all fantastic holiday and will defo go back in Nov I would recommend hotel and place to anyone who wants to have fun with lots of nightlife!
