The pool was nice and cool, and the bar snacks were nice and reasonable prices. We liked the pool better than the beach because on the beach you were hassled by traders a lot. If I wanted to buy a sarong, I would buy one!!! Patong its self was a lively place, but very westernised. Good place to eat include Harrys and Patong seafood resturant.Highly recomend hiring a car, but do it in england though your travel agent. We hired a car though budget for the first week and it was brand new and great to drive. Then we hired a car from our hotel imformation desk! It was 650 baht a day (about a tenner) and we ended up having 3 cars in 3 days and they were all bar one death traps!
The beaches were great and I know alot of people dont like them but the jetskis were fast and fun and well priced, not a rip off like in the med. Did boat trip to Khai island which was a total bargain. Pure white sand. You could walk round the island in 5 minutes. Snorkell with fish 2 foot long. And the food that was included was very nice! But be carefull i sat in the shade most of the day and still go really badly burnt! It was as close to paradise as ive ever seen! Trip to see james bond island is well worth doing and the whole day was an adventure. We stopped on a deserted island where there was a single resturant and the food was good and all included in the price. The main thing we enjoyed was elephant trekking, I dont need to say anymore, excellent animals and I really loved the experience! The staff at the hotel were brilliant, not stuffy, really friendly and polite, we spoke to them quite alot and liked them. One thing I would say is that I would not take children or teenagers to patong.
This place is very adult in the evenings. As soon as the sun went down the whole mood changed. There is a bar along the main drag (cant remember what it is called) that has a thai boxing ring in it, and the fighting is brutal but good fun to see, but it started to get expensive as the fighters would come round after every fight and wait for you to ";tip"; them. Clothes are cheap, but barter down as the starting prize is a joke. I brought 23 tshirts and my luggage weighed 31kgs on the way back! All in all I loved Thailand and would recomend it, just get a car and see the bits that are not within 200 metres of the beach!
Coconut Village Resort is a nice little hotel in a good, quiet location off from the main beach road. Couldn't fault the hotel, our room was very clean and the linen was changed every day. Staff extremely polite and helpful. Would definately recommend it...

Having been to Thailand before (Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Pattaya), I wasn't as impressed with Patong itself. It was very busy and very westernised. Plenty of restaurants to eat but it is worth hunting out some of the smalled Thai restaurants in the side streets. It was more expensive than other places in Thailand, although it is still cheap. Shopping was a nightmare as the bartering was extremely hard and stressful. The prices they were starting with were extortionate and you can see how some people got ripped off! In the end, it put you off shopping as it was such an ordeal. CD's and DVD's are worth buying though and the price is steady for those throughout.
We went on a trip to Phi Phi on a speedboat and that was very enjoyable.
Overall, a good holiday but wouldn't go back to Phuket again.
