Arrived at the airport, Monastir, to be greeted by a two hour wait to go through immigration, much pushing and shoving later and we get through to see our Med Hotel Rep who informs us which coach we are on. Get to coach and have to wait another hour whilst other passengers come through immigration. Finally set off through Sousse and then on to our hotel in Hammamet. We were very tired when we got dropped off at our hotel at about 1am, but checked in very quickly and our porter showed us into our rooms straight away, one downside was that there was no food available when we got to the hotel, but what do you expect at 1am I guess!
The hotel itself was wonderful, only approx 50 rooms and it must have been a quiet time as we only saw about 15 or so other guests. This is definately a hotel to visit if you want a couples only/relaxing laid back base for your holiday - no packagae holiday riff raff here! lol
We stayed half board, the breakfasts were lovely, we had freshly squeezed orange juice bought to our table. But the evening meals were out of this world, forget your queing and boring buffet dinners, we ate at the exclusive restaurant at the hotel, and had 4 course silver service meals; soup to start with freshly baked bread, and the desserts were out of this world! The only let down of this hotel was the swimming pool which wasn't heated, and was unfortunately freezing! The room was always spotless and all the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Hammamet itself was a let down I feel, a bit dingy and you do get a fair bit of hassle in the medina, the beach was nice, just not what I thought. The organised trip to Tunis and Carthage was wonderful, as was the village of Sidi Bou Saide, this tour is definately a must, although would have liked more time in Carthage, the views over the ocean were spectacular!
Would definately go back to this hotel, but would like to visit Sousse for more culture.
