Me and my boyfriend returned from Houda hotel 2 weeks ago and for the past three weeks i have been very ill; including several trips to hospital and the GP, and this morning found out I have SALMONELLA! I contracted it one week into a two week stay, so the second week was a nightmare spending everyday in the room, dreading the evening meal because i didn't know what had made me so sick.
FOOD was almost always hot but by the time you had fought your way past the hundreds of people barging to get meals, it had gone cold. Same meals everyday with slight variations eg beef stew, beef curry, beef in tomato sauce, chicken on the bone, turkey on the bone, deep fried chicken in batter on the bone, deep fried turkey in batter on the bone. Sometimes signs were muddled up and what was claimed to be chicken balls was actually fish! The chefs were always at their stations making fresh dishes such as local dish brik and fresh omelletes of your choice on a morning. The freshest food was the salad and there was lots of choice - if you didn't mind the flies! the cakes were always delicious but even I couldn't live on cake for two weeks. There was always fresh watermelon which was the best watermelon i have ever tasted!
RESTAURANT was a bit of a farce the floors were so greasy and slippy and a mealtime didnt go by when somebody didnt fall over and spill yet more food on the floor! On arrival you are allocated your own table and set mealtimes for lunch and evening meal which was totally necessary because the hotel was fully booked and there were thousands of people! also the salmonella was a big downside to the restaurant too! the waiters didn't know anything about food hygiene - they picked up spilled food with their hands and put it back in the buffet rather than in the bin! not to mention when food had spilled over into the next tray, it was taken out and put back in the right tray! no wonder people get food poisening when food is left sat out of the heat and then put back!
ROOMS were basic but mostly clean and were cleaned everyday. Unfortunately, the cleaners wanted to be in the room at 8.45 every morning - which wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have to get up at 4am to reserve a sunlounger for the day - they were all taken by 7am. The shower left a lot to be desired - if you had it on the coldest setting it somehow always managed to go boiling hot and then back to freezing cold!

I would advise anyone not to go to this hotel. There is lots more to say but it would take me a life time to say it,so to put it short,THINK TWICE DON'T GO!

Our Holiday started off with a bang, after arriving at the Hotel by bus the bus driver got the case out and the zip had broken well you can imagine all our clothes were all over the road to my embarrassment my smalls had scattered every where but the staff and rep Helen were brlliant Thankyou!
This is our third trip to Tunisia so we are quite familiar with their custom and their ways of life! After three lovely days of sunshine down came the rain, but this never preturbed us, the animation team Hana, fou Fou, GiGi are a few but to mention were brilliant they made our stay very enjoyable Thankyou to you all! and it is true Fou Fou( childrens entertainer) is a Living Ledgend!!! He is fantastic with the children even though we were a couple on our own it was wonderful to see their little faces light up when he walked in the hotel. My Husband thought he was brill but then again ( need i say any more )
The staff work long hours for a mere pitence even the dining room staff went out of their way for my Husbands Birthday the chef made him a Birthday cake and they all came out to sing Happy Birthday the table looked lovely with fresh flowers and candles at no extra cost to us HONEST! Abdul our waiter was also great nothing was too much trouble.
The food on the whole was pretty good we've had worse believe me and the pizza and fries at 11pm was very welcoming before going to the club for more free booze!!! We met some great people and intend to go back to Houda our motto is a Holiday is what YOU make it and not finding fault with every thing. Welldone to every one! Thankyou for a enjoyable stay. Colleen and Gilly see you again this year some time. Beslama ( bye ) xx
