Please stay away from this place - the kitchen/restaurant is a health hazard - 5 days of food poisoning and we were not alone!! - Friendly staff though, will direct you to pharmacy for antibiotics which you will need! Private beach filthy, rooms tired and poorly cleaned, never have cash for changing money - on a more positive note well located on beach, pools clean, staff helpful. Been to tunisia 5 times before and love the resort/country & people, just this hotel needs to have a major refurb & clean and management needs to sort food so as not to kill anyone!

When we arrived at the Hotel? Royal Beach we were given a room which was dirty, enough wardrope space for four garments it did not have any drawer space we had to walk round the beds sideways because the space was so small the toilet was filthy I complained to our rep and asked to be changed to another room which and he promised us that would be no problem. Four days later we were given another room with a seaview and a verandah which my wife had to clean as it was discusting. The rooms in the hotel were never cleaned the beds were made and the towels changed that was as far as the cleaning went.

We paid Panorama holidays for half-board but had to eat out on numerous occasions as the food was discusting and vile. Breakfast consisted of boiled eggs or ommelate, the evening meal consisted of Chicken, beef, fish.watered down soup that was tasteless and the sweat was melon. When I complained to the management I was told that it was because of the East European guests but if I wanted to pay extra I could have steak. I was not the only guests that complained but it seemed to fall on deaf ears. When I complained to Panorama they offered me 350 Dinars back for the inconvenience of having to eat out and promised an immediate improvement in the food which did not materials. I told my rep that nothing had changed to which he replied there was nothing else he could do.

I would not recomend this so called Hotel to anyone.

We went for a relaxing week to Tunisia in October this year.It was great. The Royal Beach is a lovely hotel, yes i do agree with other reviewers, the rooms do need a bit of a refurb however ours was spotlessly clean. It was a small room no balcony, but a fantastic view of the beach from our window, the hotel is right on the beach. We went half board and the meals were fine a bit repetitive but very edible especially the ommeletts on a morning,(you pick your own fillings.)The service we could not fault, especially ";Jimmy"; real name Samir his service in the evenings was brilliant.

There was entertainment on every night and this is the first holiday since our children were small that we stopped in the hotel instead of going elsewhere. We had lovely weather untill the day before we came home, and boy did it rain.We only went on one excursion and that was the african night we got picked up at two in the afternoon got took to a zoo which was great, then right next door is a building where you had your meal and lots of entertainment, african singing and dancing i even got taught how to play the bongo drums (that was a real laugh so my husband said). We did go to the medina and we certainly ran the gauntlet. My husband was offered 2 camels and one sad looking donkey for me (they could have at least offered 3 camels, i was most upset,so was my husband when i said no,as i dont think he was going to.)The Tunisian people are like any other nationalities, some good some not so.

All in all we had a great time and i would like to say hello and thanks to the other guests that made our holiday as well they were from all over England, and not fogetting Scotland, especially Ken and Christine from Falkirk our breakfast partners, all others were from Newcastle,Preston,Manchester,Nottingham,London, and Yorkshire,a fabulous group of people. We are going back in April next year so if any of the above are reading this it will probably be the last week in April.

All in all a thoroughly enjoyable holiday. Can i take this opportunity to wish all reviewers a very Merry Christmas and hopefully a prosperous New Year. P.S. beds and umbrellas on the beach only 2dinar for 2 people.

Well, where do we start, we just arrived back from this hotel 2 days ago and my husband is still very poorly with food poisoning.

While we were at the hotel for 2 weeks, we spoke to and met many people also on holiday, who amazingly were ";very poorly"; aswell. The food leaves alot to be desired, reheated meat, and on our 2nd day there a cockroach was in my rice. I really am afraid that i cannot say too much nice about this place, apart from ";holiday from hell";. There is an amazing barman there called Fued who really is too nice for this place. I cannot for the life of me understand how this hotel as been awarded 3*, more like 1*.

Entertainment, well working in the entertainment industry myself, I can honestly say that I have never been so ashamed of someone who calls himself an entertainer, not only did he upset alot of people while we were there by trying it on in a rude way with lots of customers, some of them where very young girls, holidaying with their parents. (not happy parents). There is only one thing that the management of this hotel is interested in and that is ripping you off. The surrounding areas of the outside pool went uncleaned for 3 days while we were there, hence flies and crawlys everywhere.

We really were happy to leave this ";Fawlty Towers";. We would never return there even if it was free.

I have been back from Hotel Royal Beach in Tunisia for 3 days, 2 days before we were due to come home a doctor had to be called out because i was suffering bad stomach ache etc. and 2 days after getting back i had to se my own doctor there was something causing everyone to come down with stomach ache and diahhorea, this has put me off the resort.

I must admit that the rooms were very basic but very clean the cleaners clean your rooms everyday and you get clean towels everyday.

I do not think much to the food but if you like eggs for breakfast and chips for tea then you will be ok. I would reccommend that you take your own coffee if you drink it because the coffee is fowl.

We did eat at the western bar just outside the hotel and that was very nice.

I would reccommend going to the reps night it is very entertaining, there is not much entertainment in the hotel. Also on the hotel description is says that the sun loungers around the pool are free, there are cushions on them and you get charged 2 dinar for them so if you don't want to pay ask for no cushion. The sand is white sand but it is full of rubbish for example cigarette buts. The beds on the beach cost 2 dinar also.

Be very weary when going in the sea because there were jellyfish there, I would not reccommend going on a boat trip, if you like swimming in the sea because of the size of the jellyfish. And a couple of the people got ripped off. Do not buy any gold unless it is from a proper jewellers.

The 'TN' trainers that are for sale out their are genuine trainers and are a real bargain. Do not pay any more than 30 dinars for the trainers. But be very careful when you go to the medina make sure you get to the right price take the trainers off them first before you give them the money because if you give them the money before they give you the trainers they won't give you them until you give them more money.

The pool is very nice, and gets the sun all day.

There is a building site next door, but it was not really a problem. We had a smell in the room though all week from the toilets the building work most be doing something to the sewerage.

The staff are all very freindly, and our rep 'Atef' was very nice.

A taxi is only 3 dinar to the medina do not pay any more unless you are tipping.

And when arriving at the airport going to your resort please get one of the porters and tip them a pound because the bus drivers get pissed off if you don't because they say it is not their job to be lifting the cases on and off the bus.

If you like nightlife this is not the place for you.

If you go to this hotel make your own judgements.

Hotel was rated 3-Star but sadly turned out to be, at best 2*-/1*+. However the staff were very freindly

Room was basic, dirty with no real balcony, even though maids came in daily. Towels were changed daily but were worn out and marked, sheets/pillows were changed 2/3 times in the two weeks we were there but were also stained and smelt stale. Aircon in our room failed to work even after alegedly repaired!! However, room had good Easterly views overlooking the beach - good sun rise over the Med.

Food was edible but monotonous usually choice of turkey, pork or beef and fish with over cooked veg., chips, rice; Dessert was usually fruit (melon, water melon, grapes, plums, peaches) but occasionally creme caramel, cakes or ice cream were added. Breakfast choice was ok and consisted of fried eggs and omelettes - cooked to order, hard boiled eggs, bread(s), cereal, cold meat, cheese, jam and fruit.

Hotels entertainment, run by Nino was poor in first week he just left music playing, but in the second week was much better including Kids Disco, Quiz Night, Belly dancer, Indian Night -(beds of nails, won brglass, swords etc). Nino was very friendly and got everyone joining in.

Thomas Cook Rep, Atef, was excellent, booked 3 excursions:-
Sahara Explorer - excellent 2-day trip includes El Jem, Matmata, Douz etc, Camal Ride dressed in local attire, Land Cruiser ride into mountains, Horand Carriage ride through large oasis.
Welcome Tour - average - Monastir to see 1st presidents Mausoleum; Skanes - Carpet Factory; Souse - Soula Centre and medina; Port El Kantoui - Marina.
Zoo - Poor value but fair selection of animals including Lions, Tigers, Cheetahs, Leopards African Elephant, Giraffes and Wild Dogs.

If we do ever return to Tunisia for our holidays it will definitely not be at the Royal Beach Hotel.

The rating for this hotel is 3 star which is fair. The hotel itself is nice, the rooms were clean, and the staff were very helpful. There are 2 pools, one inside and the other outdoor. They are both well maintained. You are literally on the beach which is great but that is as far as I can sing this hotel's praises. The resort is nice, some really nice places to eat out which I would definately advise.

Now for the bad points, here goes! The food was very basic and monotonous. The snack bar had more choice than the main restaurant. The air conditioning, if thats what you want to call it was appalling. It was loud so you couldn't have it on at night and it barely blew any cold air out whatsoever, so it was not pleasant when the weather is scorching.

You had to pay to use the hotel's sun loungers on the beach, and you are constantly being hassled by the trip organisers on the beach. We were informed by the doctor that these people have had their health and safety certificate revoked, so be warned.

The supposed entertainment was pathetic. A belly dancer performed but after 10 mins she was gone. That was it for the week. We went for our rep meeting the day after we arrived but she didn't turn. When we eventually caught up with her she told us that the hotel informed her that no guests had arrived the previous day, but to be fair to her she gave us 2 tickets to the reps cabaret evening at the nearby casino, which was fantastic!

So there you go, my humble opinion. Its not bad but not great either. We'd had enough after 4 days. If you are going to this hotel for your hols, good luck, I hope you enjoy it more than we did!

I'd like to thank Thomas Cook for the worst holiday ever.

Hotel Royal Beach in Sousse is an embarrassment. The food is desperate and the same everyday and the beer undrinkable and the staff have attitudes. The hotel is full of anti British Russians.i could go on but then it just makes me angry to think that we were ripped off and its hard to put into words how you feel when you feel as let down as we were.

If you like hotels with entertainment this is not for you.Everyday in our week stay at Tunisia's version of Faulty Towers there was a fight. There is nothing for children to do but saying that there was nothing for adults to do either.Every night the place gets used by local prstitutes that you will find mainly in the Euro Bar located underneath the hotel where a half hour session will cost no more than £4.25 in sterling.Yes half an hour for under a fiver.

The cleaners do turn up everyday to do your room but only make the bed leaving the top sheet looking like you are staying at a five star hotel. One knock and they will be inside so be prepared if youre having fun or walking to the bathroom naked. They leave you smelly towells that have other residents dirt on.If you like to see empty beer botles and plates lying all around your hotel 24/7 this is the place for you.

We will say thou that the beach is really nice but the sand is full of cigarette nubs, and with more entertainment than the hotel with all the fights taking place on a daily basis. Our best day there were three fights. The showers located by the outdoor pool are used as toilets at night. We were not going to go on so we will stop there but believe us when we say we have not scratched the surface yet. This is one place to be avoided at all costs.

Everything that hte other have mentioned ... Noise echoing throughout the building, Excellent access to the beach. Found the 'Snack Bar' had a better menu than the Buffet on several occassions. BUT ! You will have to put up with anew Complex being buile right alongside the Royal Beach Hotel, and about the same size as the Royal Beach. They have just started with the foundations, making up the reinforcement and pouring concrete until after 21.00 hrs just last week. Yopu have been advised ! I understand that Thompsons were offering alternative accom., or even refunds, but check this out for yourselves.
Good Luck !

Well, having read some of the other reviews on this site for the Hotel I felt that I wanted to express our opinion of last summer's holiday.

We travelled to Tunisia in September 2005 and we can honestly say that we had a wonderful time; after the initial disappointment on arrival (as the route that the coach took seemed to involve drop offs at far more exotic and luxurious looking hotels!)We soon settled in.

Our hotel room was clean and basic and was serviced daily with fresh towels, the air conditioning was perfectly adequate and certainly did the job! The staff were mostly helpful the bar staff were especially helpful and at no point did we feel that anyone was taking advantage of our lack of understanding of the currency. I will admit that there was an incredibly grumpy looking man on reception but I felt that he was obviously not suited to a customer service based role!

The beach was clean and the staff who assisted us with the sun beds were always helpful, I know that initially the sun beds were listed as being free in the brochure, however our travel agents rang us to let us know of the change in circumstances and I honestly didn't feel that 80p was too much to pay for day lying on the beach in comfort! We received no trouble from any beach sellers and the staff were actively keeping them away. Some others have commented that the beach was full of cigarette butts, I will admit there were some about however surely this responsibility lies with the smokers who have chosen to bury them in the sand rather than the staff who are doing there utmost to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

We took a day trip to Tunis, sidi bou- said and carthage, the trip was great our tour guide was fabulous and the company was excellent - I will say that the medina in Tunis was nothing like the one in Sousse and it almost put us off going into the heart of the medina in sousse. We also took a taxi to Port El Kantoui which we found to be overpriced and the shopkeepers rude and lecherous!

The Medina.... well the one in sousse was fabulous we weren't overly hassled and found that saying no (with a smile) will actually stop the sellers from giving you any form of trouble we went in the mornings and found that it was definitely quieter. The bartering was difficult at first but you soon found that you got into the swing of things and if you don't get the price you want just say no and walk out. Don't get overly involved in thinking about how low could I have got it for, decide on a price that you think is a good deal and stick to that!

In conclusion the hotel is clean and friendly and the food was good, there was always a choice and they were really helpful with any requirements that you had, there was always fruit to choose from if you didn't fancy a sweet dessert. I would say that value for money was excellent and you are in a perfect location for the beach or exploring the town - which was only a 20 min walk away.

My one piece of advice would be to take some English money with you in pound coins not only for tipping at the airport but also for tipping at the hotel.
