We have just returned from our first holiday to Tunisia and stayed at the Tour Kahlef Hotel. We had a great holiday and would definitely go again. There are Russians and other Eastern Europeans in the hotel but at the time we went - end Oct there were not so many to really bother you. Yes they are greedy with the food and do not queue. My seven year old son was ignored in the queue for a fried egg and could not understand why they kept barging in front. Do tip the restaurant staff 1 dinar (about 45p) at dinner - they do an excellent service. For those that haven't been to Tunisia before you change your money - sterling or Euros there and it is a daily fixed rate whereveryou change your money. A dinar is a good tip for anyone - drivers, guides etc. Tour Operator trips are surprisingly good value but the three cities trip we did was a long day with a lot of time in the coach. The amphitheatre at El Jem was incredible and well worth a visit. The camel ride was good fun and not smelly or scarey, a must! The beach traders are a bit of a pain but tolerable. They took a lot of interest in my seven year old son who is small and blond! Even the beach security guard wanted a kiss from him! The food in the hotel does get a bit repetitive but it is fine and there is plenty of it. There is lots of entertainment and the Tunisian staff are very friendly and cannot do enough for you. The beach is fantastic - perfect sand and plenty of free sun beds when we went not sure what it would be like at high season - the same with the hotel. We would definitely go again - yes the hotel is tired but it's clean.

just returned from a 2wk stay as a familt of four aged between 6 - 55 x on a whole enjoyed it appart from the hotel rooms r in dire need of refurbishing x the carpets on many of the corridors really r disgusting, water stains, bleach x i dread to think wot many of the others were! we found the reception staff ok, kids club x animation staff work hard, the waiters (especially mohamed x bilel) fantastic 1 dinar tip makes such a difference to the service as does 2 dinar to the maid.we certainley had the best section of the beach x security move on the sellers who to b fair r really nice x a firm no works well. the sea is lovely, warm x clear. the pool area is good x we never had a problem getting a bed.our first room was very small with twin beds x bunk beds which almost completley covered the doors onto the balcony, due to the noise from the disco till 3 in a mornin i asked for a room change four days into our 2wk stay which was done within the hour thanks to the thomson rep fethi.we had a much larger room with 4 single beds which was fab.the food was fine but repetitive x yes i feel recycled at times in other dishes.the russians are horrible they do not queue they will push your children to get to the food they pile their plates high some r seen tipping plates of fruit etc into their bags x others simply leave hugh amounts on their plates x the staff tell you they hate themselves for having to deal with them. thomsons have arranged with the hotel to open the snack bar by the pool for their guests to have their evening meals which is great as you get to meet other english people x compare notes about the russians!! but there is obviusly less choice than in the restaraunt. we visited the medina which i found quite intimidating not because of the tunisians because they r lovely people but i felt quite claustrophobic its difficult to find your way out once in there but worth the experience.your money goes a long way = 1 dinar is approx 40p x it cost us 30 dinar at the snack bar for a beer a coke lge bottle water 3 plates of chips 2 pizza x a cheese baguette still think il stick to europe for the next few years though.
went to the reps show x paid extra for front seats x unlimited drinks be warned a good night not fantastic x not worth the extra money as all good seats x not much time to drink your moneys worth so stick to the basic deal. went on a pirate ship which was g...

WE FIRST VISITED THIS HOTEL LAST YEAR, NO PROBLEMS THEN,AND WOULD HAVE RECOMMENDED IT TO ANYONE. BUT THIS TIME WHAT A DIFFERENCE, 85% RUSSIAN GUESTS - GREEDY, ARROGANT,SELFISH SUMS MANY OF THEM UP. OTHERS ARE FINE BUT THEY ARE THE MINORITY. HOTEL STAFF ARE GENERALLY FRIENDLY AND HELP FULL - EXCEPT FOR RECEPTION WHO DIDN'T WANT TO KNOW AND COULDN'T CARE LESS. RECEPTION OPENING HOURS FOR EXCHANGING CURRENCY BORE NO RESEMBLANCE WHATSOEVER TO THOSE ADVERTISED - OFTEN CLOSED WHEN THEY SHOULD BE OPEN, WITH NO EXPLANATION FROM RECEPTION STAFF WHO WERE NOT INTERESTED.LIFTS OFTEN BROKEN DOWN. FOOD WAS REPETITIVE, WITH SOME FOOD I SUSPECT BEING "RECYCLED", FROM ONE MEAL TO ANOTHER. ALWAYS SHORT OF SOMETHING IN THE RESTAURANT SPOONS, PLATES, CUPS BUTTER, THOUGH IN FAIRNESS THE STAFF STRUGGLED TO KEEP PACE WITH THE RUSSIANS WHO SWEPT THROUGH THE RESTAURANT LIKE A PLAGUE OF LOCUST, PILING PLATES HIGH WITH FOOD THEN MOST OF IT GOING TO WASTE.KIDS REPS WERE GREAT, WAITERS TRIED HARD BUT WERE OVERWHELMED. SADLY NOT A HOTEL I WOULD RECOMMEND FOR ANYONE ANYMORE.
RESORT OK FOR TUNISIA, visit the medina for an experience, don't go on the boats and or galleys on windy days, do haggle for everything, the locals will try their luck and rip you off if your daft enough to fall for it! otherwise what you'd expect pretty mu...
