The hotel was very clean staff where very friendly an nice. The evening entertainment was a bit of a let down. I feel the hotel needed a beach bar open an more bars open in the day as there was only the pool bar open. And they need to maybe look at the beds the mattress in the rooms were very hard and uncomfortable .

It was a beautiful hotel with a very friendly and caring staff. The hotel was very pleasant and the service was very good. The atmosphere was breathtaking and the beach was gorgeous. There were lots of kind friendly residents who were also staying at the hotel. The market was fantastic and the service was good as well. Everyone was very nice, caring and friendly and I enjoyed staying at the hotel. It was by far the best holiday that I have ever been to.

"VERY DISAPPOINTING HOTEL"

Having visited tunisia for the last 4 consecutive years and been very impressed with the other 4 and 5 star hotels we had stayed in, we were very disappointed with the marco polo. We stayed at the hotel for two weeks late may into june 2013 and would rate the hotel as a 3 star at the very best. The food was bland and without choice, ok if you like eggs. No bacon on offer and two types of cheese !. For such a large hotel there was only one pool/beach bar available during the day at which each drink (soft and alcoholic) had to be served by staff (so you can imagine the queues). The beach located to the front of the hotel was covered with litter and there was a building with large graffiti painted on it visible (not what you would expect). The hotel has two small lifts which were servicing the 900 plus guests. For some reason the evening meal sittings were limited to 1 1/4 hour duration which meant you had to rush your food and caused huge queues. This hotel was a total contrast to the others I have stayed in in tunisia and has unfortunately put me off visiting the country again.

"enjoyable but not 4*"

funny hotel to sum up, Spa facilities were lovely but peace and tranquility were missing, food average with only one main dining room open, lovely pool with swim up bar - closed!! until after the 1/5 cleaners in the hotel seem to work by the ethos 7.30am 'I'm up so everyone needs to be up'', The animation team work hard and should be applauded But overall the 4* rating is a difficult thing to see, they seem to try hard but just don't pull it off certainly not the normal standard you expect from a Riu hotel

"Lovely hotel, shame about food+locals! "

Overall Hotel Rating:

Excellent

Open quote

We have just come back from a week at Marco Polo, what a lovely hotel it is, we were amazed at how clean and beautiful everything is. The outdoor pool was the biggest I have ever seen and the indoor pool was nice and warm for the winter. The staff were brilliant at the hotel, and entertainment staff work hard to make everyone's stay a good one. There were two things that let the hotel down, the food and the locals. The food is terrible, mainly catering for Tunisian people, we mainly ate soup and baps all week! Definitely need a bit of variety, as every meal apart from breakfast consisted of turkey! The locals, oh my goodness! 500 Tunisian women came while we were here for a massage convention at the hotel, it was ridiculous, we have never seen anything like it, we had to queue for everything, drinks, coffee, food, seats, it was terrible, lots of complaints were made about this and in the end the tourists (English, French and German) were told we had to eat at the a la carte restaraunt and we were segregated from everyone else. This was ridiculous as there was not enough food for everyone in the a la carte restaurant, but in the big restaurant, all of the Tunisian ladies ( who paid less than £50 per night) enjoyed many different types of food! Complained to the rep (Martin) who was useless. Glad to be home now, ruined the whole holiday and now we would not return to Marco Polo , which is sad as it is such a lovely hotel. Shame the local people had to ruin it, we thought the English were rude!!!!

The hotel was very clean and spacious. The facilities were very good and the food quality and choices were fabulous. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

Only negative point was having to get up very early to get a sunbed!! Not enough for everyone.

staff and service excellent, food quality very good ,plenty of choice, breakfast, lunch and dinner meal times with a pastry or pancake snack in the afternoon.Hotel and pool area cleaned thoroughly every morning. the beach in front of marco polo was kept clean by staff, litter etc.but this could not be said for other hotels further down the beach. the animation team work really hard to entertain you given their limited budget(if any) and the fact they are on duty from 10 am till midnight

"Poor watersports and kids club"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Good

Open quote

The hotel is a vast complex if it had been half full or more then I think the service and food would have deteriorated, but we were okay. The kids club was unsupervised and our 5 year old could leave the club whenever he wanted which is worrying. Also he only did so because it wasn't entertaining enough. He also cut his foot in the paddling pool and the staff argued he couldn't have but feel around the floor of the pool and the razor edge broken tiles are very sharp, but nobody took any notice of our complaint. Finally, the brochure states windsurfing, catamaran and sailing. I only sail dinghies so I'd have thought that would've been covered by sailing but NO. Even after 3 letters to TUI on our return they refuse to acknowledge this. But I only booked this hotel because of the sailing. in 2011 we also went to Dom Rep with TUI but never again.

"Excellent stay"

Overall Hotel Rating:

A thoroughly enjoyable stay. The hotel is situated right on the beach next to the marina and is well set out. The service and hotel staff could not be more helpful and friendly. During our stay my mother was in a second floor room. She suffers badly with her hips and is awaiting an operation. We asked at reception if there was any chance of having her moved to a ground floor room and within 15 minutes she was in a room right next to the restaurant and pool with a walk-in shower and disabled facilities. We also asked if we could hire a wheel chair. The reception staff made all the arrangements and a wheel chair arrived within the hour. The pool is nice with a swim-up bar two jacuzzi areas. The hotel throughout was kept spotless and during all the times I have been abroad, the hotel staff, from the cleaners and reception to the entertainment and bar/waiter service are by far the most friendly and helpful I've meet. A hotel I will be returning to.

Not up to the RIU standards for food, resturant cleaniness, resturant standards. very very disappointed. Hotel very clean, room good standard. Only one bar open during the day until 6 pm for ALL the hotel to use, then it closed and another bar opened unit 8pm then two more bars open, not good enough for the amount of people in hotel. Overall not a great experience especially for a RIU Hotel. Two days before we arrive all the staff in the hotel went on stike. After several hours the maintainance manager was sacked and everyone went back to work. Not good.

"Mis-rated"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Do not believe this is a 4*. Our bed was so hard we had to sleep on the pull out sofa bed. Staff at reception were not consistant I found. Although the hotel and pool area was kept clean, the rooms were not thoroughly cleaned, spraying a cleaning product on the floor and randomly mopping bits is not my idea of a full clean. There was a large selection of food, what was there was of a very low standard. My partener and I was ill for 5 days, still suffereing a further 2 after being back from here. The entertainment was all or nothing. Some days you wondered where the animation team actually were! The evening consisted of the same dull music then occasionally some real entertainment would happen, again of a poor quality.

On our second day the hotel staff went on strike over a pay dispute, leaving us without food or drink and having to venture out into the resort which was not to our delight.
