RESORT - Well, the resort was in the middle of being built but there was no building noise or anything like that. We didn't tend to see the builders actually working!! With the Marina it seemed that it would be a fabulous destination in about 5 years.
HOTEL - The hotel itself was lovely and sumptuous. We didn't get on with the head waiter though. After a misunderstanding where we weren't supposed to have an evening meal on arrival, (we were supposed to buy a meal ourselves at the pizza cafe) the receptionist told us to go to the restaurant and eat, so we did. The head waiter then watched us for the next two weeks and becuase we didn't realise this meal counted against our last meal in the hotel, then tried to make us pay on the last day of the holiday. When we explained the misunderstanding, he said he would make the waiter who'd let us have lunch pay from his wages. Not very friendly at all. The food was nice and I ate plenty. Puddings were a bit blah though, lots of tasteless pastries with dates. We had no other problems with staff though. The hotel was very clean and the views to the seafront were lovely. It wasn't a beach to relax on as huge mounds of seaweed were washed up every night.
TOWNS - The local towns were interesting. I liked Sousse, but had my purse stolen in the rush to board the train. I would advise to do the trips with your holiday company. Luckily, I'd spent all my spending money in the govenment shop and kept american express vouchers in the hotel safe so all they got was a purse.
I found Hammamet to be the worst medina of the place which gave me a bad impression of them. However, the medina at Tunis was lovely in comparison.
TRIPS - A great trip was the 2 day safari which I loved, and the bedouin feast. I found the food a bit repetative, (a lot of cous-cous) but each place seemed to offer it in a different way. I liked the Brik - fried pancake with egg and potato and it was very good in the hotel cafe.
We took a trip to Nabeul market and after the purse episode I wore my bag on my front and was very wary indeed.
Casino and Caberet - This was an amusing evening! And I doubled my money in the casino! Always a bonus.
On the whole I enjoyed my holiday. It was very different from anything I had experienced and having read previous messages, I took the advice of covering up in towns being a petite blonde. However, I was called Barbie quite alot!
I would be interested in going again but only for a week becuase once you've done the trips, I doubt they'll change much. I recommend it for someone who knows they'd like it here, because it is a culture change and you have to respect that.
