"Hotel Yasmine Beach review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
I have read some bad reviews about this hotel and staff. Many say that they dont like the British and how rude they were. All I can say is there must be two hotels, because we absolutely loved it, always smiling faces from all the staff, most spoke English and had a go if they didnt. My Godson still keeps asking where Shaky is now,one of the waiters, they really made a fuss of all of us. Food was good, wine was good compared to some places. The hotel was clean, tidy, granted not quite a 5 star more like a 4 star, we we thoroughly enjoyed it.
Would definately go back..

The hotel was a complete nightmare. We encountered sickness due to such poor hygiene, all of the food included in the buffet was "recycled" day after day. We suffered a week with no use of the toilet in our room as they would not fix it even though it was broken on arrival. The indoor pool is only lit by natural light, of which there is none on days of rain, leaving us with nothing to do and nowhere to go. This hotel was actualy sold to us as 5*, unbelievable! We would certainly not advise staying here!

Overall Hotel Rating:
Having read the previous reviews I was desperate to change our choice of hotel in Tunisia. All I can say is that I'm really pleased that we didn't.
Firstly the hotel is 5 star but a Tunisian rating, do you honestly expect it to be an English 5 star hotel for the price they charge? The beer is an excellent lager, not at all cloudy and was ice cold at all times.
The staff were excellent and spoke good English, especially considering they have to speak Italian, French and German as the first choice languages at this resort. English guests are in the minority here so if you like being surrounded by loud, drunk, sunburnt, tattooed English eating pie, chips and gravy then this ISNT the resort for you. Myself and my girlfriend wanted a chilled out week away in the sun and that's exactly what we got.We got talking to the waiters and they actually confessed to much preferring the English to the other nationalities who stayed there. Be aware that it is a poor country and the men are not used to seeing ladies in bikinis, so they do stare and are not as skilled as British men in subtly looking. I wouldn't recommend you go without you male partners but this is the Countries North African culture and not the fault of the hotel.
The hotel was spotlessly clean including our room which was immaculate, cleaned daily and we had fresh towels everyday. We never got any stomach problems and we ate everything off the menu. The food was excellent, for breakfast they cooked pancakes in front of you as well as omelettes. They bake fresh bread and the choice of foods covers all tastes. What they don't have is English food such as Pie and gravy, curry or marmite or beans on toast ! To be honest I didn't really eat much differently to how I do at home - they have fresh salad, even chips, soup, fresh fish, potatoes, veggies, home made burgers, chicken, chillies and risotto dishes to name but a few. The choice of puddings was better than most decent restaurants in the UK. The best part was the fact that you could have unlimited 1.5 litre bottles of still water between 10am and midnight - something which I have never experienced before on an all inclusive holiday I must point out that they only have 2 types of spirits available; both 40% made from figs and dates and are really nice. They use real Coke/diet Coke not a cheap alternative, the wine is good both red, white and rose. As said before the beer is really good although served in half pints but its ice cold, in the heat a pint would soon warm up hence why its served as it is.
The design of the hotel is traditional which means it does have dark areas i.e. keeping cool in the heat of summer! As for only having 'emergency escape lights' in the corridors they are in fact light bulbs with traditional shades, certainly not blinding bright lights but that's the traditional design for that country. If you don't know what a troglodyte is then maybe Tunisia isn't for you. The beach 20 feet away was beautiful as was the 3 pools. The sun loungers were comfortable, plentiful and you didn't have to reserve them at 6 in the morning, better still there was NO loud music being pumped out by the pool when we went in May - heaven if you want to snooze.
The German and Italian reps were always polite and even said Good morning to me on several occasions. When we went, all the evening entertainment was in German and Italian, predominantly aimed at kids but we dint go on holiday for the evening's entertainment - we went for the SUN. Again if you want entertainment stay in the UK and got to the Opera! But then again that's likely to be in Italian!
The weather was great in May although it was windy for several of the days and im sure some people would try to complain to someone at the hotel for the weather! There are very few all inclusive places I would return to and this IS one of them. All the young (ish) English couples liked the place and the 'older' English couples seemed to be moaning about everything - they expected so much for so little. No this isn't a UK 5 star hotel but it's realistically a 3 star and you pay 3 star prices as a result!
this really is a great place to go.

Having read the reports of the hotel AFTER booking it, we considered changing before departure, but then decided to make our own minds up - and we were glad we did!
Being a ";girlie"; week away with my sister, we were looking for some sun and relaxation, which we found in bucket loads at the Yasmine Beach Hotel. Of course, the weather wasn't down to them!!
I had upgraded us to a Junior Suite, to ensure we had some space, but I needn't have bothered, having seen the standard rooms, we would have been fine, but were glad of the sitting area that the junior suite gave us.
The hotel was just as the pictures show - dark in areas, with very interesting architectural designs. As we were ";out of season"; (another thing we were glad about), most of the restaurants were closed, but having booked half board, we actually signed up to All Inclusive part way through the week, as we enjoyed the food so much.
The staff were great. And although the British contingency was small, they treated us very well. We were impressed with their English, especially as they seemed to move seamlessly from Arabic to French, German, Italian into English! Okay, not everyone spoke good English, but they were better than my Arabic and they were very willing to learn.
We indulged in the 3 day Relaxation course offered at the ";Relax Centre"; and felt throughly pampered afterwards. We were able to pick our own times for treatments and I actually had a couple of extra massages to help me de-stress. The cost was not too great and less that I would pay here. We both recommend the Relax Centre, if you go to the hotel.
Down sides:- The main outdoor pool is not heated. To get to the other outdoor pool (also unheated), you had to go through a building site! We didn't have a mini-bar in the room, nor any tea/coffee making facilities, but there was a fridge and bottle opener! Our room was next to a storage room which caused us some disturbed sleep, as the light from the room shone into ours through a grill. There were a lot of men around, all eager to get you into their shops, which put us off shopping and going to the Medina's. Some of the staff were also a bit over friendly, but once you put them off, they were generally good.
Service, overall was great and we would go back again, but with our husbands!!

When i was reading the other peoples reviews of this hoilday BEFORE i left i was really worried i even tried to change hotels. I have to say that i am very glad that i was unable to do this.
The hotel was by far the best i have ever stayed in so to me it was 5* standard, the food and beer were fine and the staff were really nice. There were two members of staff there who were just for the English guests and i have to say there English was brilliant (well alot better than my Arabic or French) thses two guys also spoke Greman French and Itallian!!!! The room was clean and tidy.
The outdoor pools were lovley as was the beach and the pool side bar food was great as were the staff.
I went to the night club on my last night and alough this was quite expecnsive to drink in it was brlliant and lets be honest how much do you pay in England for a beer in a club?!
Anyone who didnt like the way of shopping really should not go to Egypt ect as its exactly the same there its there way of living.
Me and my female friend traveled alone and did not feel thretened at all the men there did what most men do when they see a woman stared a bit some of them made a bit of a comment but noting offensive or crude.
All i acn say it i am going back there next year and plan to stay in the same hotel if you have booked to go here and are now worried dont be!!!

Overall Hotel Rating:
We booked this all-inclusive week because it seemed like such a bargain. But I would never again book a holiday off teletext because you are left without a rep or a point of contact if you want to explore the local area or complain.
The hotel, as everyone else has previously said, was not 5* but at the price we paid, we were not expecting it to be. The bedrooms were ok, large and clean, but the hotel was really quite shabby in places with poorly lit corridors and tatty carpets.
The place had very few brits, which I usually would not mind, but it was completely overtaken by Italians and Germans - neither of whom are particularly friendly. The food was geared towards their tastes and was quite obscure at times. We ate out three times because there was no variation of food in the dining hall - always rice and some strange looking meat dish and chips. Oh, not forgetting the neverending amounts of cake and ice cream which I ate far too much of quite frankly!
The staff and Tunisian people in general, were very very rude and unfriendly, and seemed to make a point of not speaking ANY english at all. Yet they mysteriously were all fluent in Italian and German. I do not know why they chose to dislike us all so much but we felt like social lepers!
My boyfriend actually liked the beer despite its curious appearance, and I quite liked the white wine, but in all honesty we were only drinking it to get our money's worth.
The German and Italian tour reps were almost unbearable and the pool area was always so noisy whenever they were around. However, just as we were leaving, the hotel opened another much nicer and more peaceful swimmingpool so I guess you could call that a plus point.
Yasmine Hammamet itself was terrible - deserted and half-built. The beach was alright, but there is literally nothing to do whatsoever! I can honestly say it was not really a great holiday at all and I was thankful to come home, not least because it was cold and cloudy every day!
So if you see that baragin on Teletext and ring up someone who says ";all 5* hotels in Tunisia are wonderful"; - don't be fooled! They are lying! Please please spare yourself the misery and do not go to this hotel!!! It's rubbish!!!

Arrived at the hotel after a 1 hour drive from Tunis airport and the first impressions of the hotel were good.
GOOD POINTS
Nice outdoor pool
big, nicely decorated hall.
Drinks on arrival
BAD POINTS:
indoor pool was dark and dingy.
Decor of the rooms were okay but not up to 5 star standard
No towels in our room
Some reception staff didn't speak english
food was okay also but still not up to 5 star standard.
have to pay to use Gym!
Money change service did not have any money
Met the Rep. the next day and was told that the hotel was ";maximum 4 star classic not superior"; although we were told it's a lovely 5 star by Airworld (who probably have never been there!)
3 couples from England including us complained to the Rep. but he just told us to contact the Airworld in England which I did costing me a lot from my Mobile, the agent basically told me that ";what do you expect for the price you paid";. I booked it last minute and paid £315 each for 1 week and althougth this was a bargain, we were told 5 star and we expect 5 star standards. We than contacted Med. Hotels who was very helpful and moved us (costing us between £15 to £35 per couple) all to Sultan Taj which was a very high stardard 5 star with entertainment etc.
The evening before we moved, the hotel general manager called us in his office and apologised and told us he'd treat us like VIP but it was too late as we've already paid to move, when we got back to our room, there was fruit and flowers on the floor which left me feeling very guilty, but that soon changed as soon as we got to the Sultan Taj which was ideal for us as we loved everything about the hotel including the entertainment.
We have been to Tunisia before and stayed in a 3 star which was better standard than the Yasmine Beach Hotel. I would not recommend it to anyone.
Lastly, I found the Medina in Hammamet a waste of time with high prices for cheap goods and the men very sexist and rude if you don't buy anything.

After a 2 hour journey from the airport by coach dropping other people at their hotels we were the last to arrive at 11.45pm. Very tired it was so dark could not see the outside of the hotel but inside was very welcomming staff greeted us and drinks arrived, we checked in to rooms with Sea View and bell hop took our back up in the lift to the 5th floor and opened rooms, well they were everything the web site and pictures said but more. I had a double room as a single with no extra costs sep. bath and toilet with every little extra you could want. Beds changed every day and towels that you used, mini bar replenished balcony was very large you could have at least 4 people on it easily.
Food was excellent, and you could help yourself we were h/b, good variety in the evening.
As it was March no entertainment but we were quite happy to read with a drink or coffee in the lovely lounge bars and go to bed.Yasmina Beach over the boulevard was beautiful white sand the weather could have been better but we managed a day on the beach and paddaling.
Lots of ";lookie Lookie"; men every where you just need to say no quite a few times and they get the answer.
Having read reviews about this hotel I was very glad to see they could not be true the hotel must have gone through a make-over as it was excellent could just have done with a few more people, but as it was march this was normal.
Hotel has a great relaxation centre you must have a fully body massage and body wrap very relaxing - indoor pool very warm.I will most certainly visit again.

Its the worst hotel we have ever stayed in.Faulty towers comes to mind, with bad food, drinks, rude staff.Even the manager wouldn't speak to us after I'd been in bed 2 days with stomach upset after eating food in the 'so called' a la carte restaurant.
We have been to Tunisia before(Sousse)and had such a good time that we decided to go and try Hammamet. The resort itself was lovely, but everyone seemed to cringe when we mentioned the hotels name, which after staying there isn't supprising.
We wanted to come home after the first hour.I love holidays, and this is one that we have ever hated!!!!

Having read the only other review of this hotel on this site I partly agree with some of the comments - the air conditioning was inadequate - but in October this wasn't important - in the height of summer it would have been unbearable!
To be fair to the hotel - it was probably a 5 star at one time that has now slipped to a 3 star. The room - a duplex with a wrought-iron balcony inside the room overlooking the ground floor 2 single beds up 2 single beds down was immaculate. Towels and bedlined changed everyday. Lovely decor and exceptionally clean.
The food was of a very high standard, but not very varied. The resort was desolate at this time of year. The staff did not speak much English.
My teenagers were not bored and although there was nothing to do we found the empty beach and the empty outdoor pool area very relaxing. Indoor pool was lovely and the hotel quite luxurious but a little bit tatty in places. Locals do not bother you if you're firm, but polite.
Visit Hammamet Medina, Tunis and Sidi Bou Said - but steer clear of the organised trip to the belly dancing event - awful. Wouldn't return - cos we like to go different places. But had a fab holiday and temperatures of 75 degrees mostly.

Our first visit to Tunisia booked through imperial travel whom acted has agents for Thompson (Flights) and Med Hotel (Accommodation). We were looking specifically for a 5 star hotel and the lady taking the booking said ";don't worry, you will not find a bad 5 star hotel in Tunisia"; (apparently her parents take their holidays there)!! Please read on:
The rooms were not at the standard expected of a 5 star hotel, the passaeways leading to the rooms were only lit by emergency escape lights, without a light you could not find your room number or keyhole. The air conditiong in the rooms was not adequate, the switch to power the room was loose and hanging off the wall, the minibar contained no drinks and the lights in the room were dim and no lights were available on the balcony. If you are unfortunate enough to have a room overlooking the pool, forget any peace and quiet. The entertainments group (Italian) played their music at a deafening sound through to 1800hrs and from 2030hrs through to sometimes 0030hrs an excuse for a caberet show started, again this was so loud that even when locked away in your room you could not get away from the noise. Just to finish on the subject of noise from midnight the disco started and people with rooms nearby could not sleep until it finished at 0500hrs.
The beer was some form of homebrew, actually brewed in the hotel, it was cloudy and undrinkable but still cost approx £2.50. The choice of two restaurants reminded me of my military days with the exception that in the military you expected the food to sometimes be unedible. Some of the English people were surviving on bread and water. We thought we would be ok because the brochure said a choice from 2 restaurants, sorry we were misled, the second restaurant was ala Carte Pizza in the same place where they brewed the beer.
The Med Tour Rep was very good but spoke no English, the reception understood english until you complained and then it was ";No Comprehendo";.
Other 4 and 5 star hotels in the area (El Mouradi and Vinci Taj Sultan for eg)were luxurious when compared to Yasmine Bech and therefore this is where we ended up eating (approx £15 - £20/day)to use there half board buffet facilities.
Lastly all the english tourist were complaining but once you are there you are trapped, we paid good money for this holiday and we have been left very bitter and angry, don't let this happen to you!! You have been warned this hotel should be rated 1 Star

Overall Hotel Rating:
This Hotel is meant to be 5 Star. The actual public rooms of the Hotel and our room itself were very nice and clean. The staff however were incredibly rude. In fact I have never ever experienced such rude people. Very few of them spoke any English. If you asked for a bottle of water or a glass of wine, they literally just smirked at you and walked off. Incredible. Most of the guests were either German or Italian and they seemed to treat them much better than the British guests. They would make the British guests wait for ever at the bar to be served. Although the drinks wre so terrible that you wondered if it was worth it. The beer is literally undrinkable. They brew it themselves and it is all cloudy, almost like they have not finished the brewing process properly. All the British guests that I spoke to felt that same about the rudeness of the staff.
I would also say that they seemed to treat Women who were not accompanied by a Man very badly. I really would not advise Women to visit Tunisia without Men. I know that sounds extreme but that really is the impression that I got. I am not particularly young or great looking but my Sister and I were really hassled all the time wherever we went. We were even bothered on the Beach by the old guy who gives out the sun beds. It made things very difficult.
As for the Markets, I would advise anyone who does go there to head straight for the fixed price shops. Make sure that the prices are on display. These prices are very good. If you wander into any other shops they will literally bar your way from leaving and literally you are lucky to get out without buying anything. As far as they are concerned, you have entered their shop and you will now buy something. A total nightmare.
On a good note though, the Marina is very nice and there are some very nice Restaurants there where the staff are very friendly and serve great food.
