This was our first venture to Tunisia. We arrived at 0515 in the morning. On arrival we were directed to our apartment by a porter using the light from a mobile phone. The apartment seemed so far away from reception. When we opened the apartment door our hearts sank. We were allocated what could only be described as a cell with a bathroom and kitchen off. We immediately returned to reception and were later allocated an apartment beside the pool (as we had requested when we booked).

Yasmine Hammamet was supposed to be purpose built resort for tourists, built around 5 years ago. I can tell you it is not very tourist friendly. There is little to do and if you are self catering the supermarkets are poorly stocked and the restaurants are very hit and miss. I put this down to the fact that we were visiting in the middle of Ramadan. Most of the hotel staff were friendly, but outside the hotel and especially in the Medina, the locals are very aggressive and extremely rude.

We went to Tunisia to recharge our batteries. We did this thanks to the friendships made with other British and Irish visitors to the Diar Lemdina. I must say, however, we were in the minority.

What a beautiful appartment we were given when we arrived. There are three residential areas in the hotel and we were in the Diar El Bousten. Our appartment was enormous and just for us 2! We had a big kitchen, a large lounge area with 3 3-seater sofas,a massive double bedroom with tons and tons of storage and hanging space. The bathroom was big too and the whole appartment was cleaned every day with new towels every day.

The swimming pool area was fab and very pretty, always had sunbeds available and kept clean and tidy. Bar nearby inside the reception area for getting drinks.

The Diar Le Medina is only a year old - like a lot of hotels in this newly established resort. Everything was spotlessly clean and the staff were very friendly. Although it's inside the Medina, you cannot hear what's going on in the Medina itself - well you couldn't from our appartment anyway. There was a music festival on the go during our whole stay which was fab entertainment when we went to watch in the Medina but nothing but silence in our appartment. Go to Carthage Land - even if you don't have kids - it's great fun and cheap - everything in Tunisia is cheap! All the excursions were excellent value for money - expecially the Desert Adventure - go for it - the camels are lovely and easy to ride - not scary at all as i'd been led to believe.

The Yasmine resort itself is very clean and the beach is also kept very clean

Gosh, I don't think Ive got anything bad to say at all - we had a delay on the way home and the airport food is really bad, so take some food with you for your departure day just in case.

enjoy your holiday!
