This was our 10th visit to Turkey and first time to Alanya. Transfer from Antalya airport was long at 2 hours in the early morning, but did include a short break half way. Things will be better when the new local airport opens in the next couple of years. Alanya is a large international resort with many things to see and do especially in and around the old town and harbour area. As a result of the strong European presence (not many Brits) almost everything is priced in Euros, although they will take £/€/Ytl and there are many change bureau and cash machines in town. There are plenty of shops and decent restaurants to tempt you. We particularly liked the Opera House Restaurant and the Queens Garden. The best way to get in and out of town is on the frequent buses, cost 1Ytl (£0.42) each, or you can walk. It took us about 45 minutes to walk into town from the Tuna Apartments. The castle is well worth a visit. You can catch the bus from the bus station in the centre of town for 1Ytl each. It will take you to the top. Entrance to the castle is 10Ytl per person. The views are stunning. If you’re able bodied, walk back down into town, visit the little old ladies stalls selling local crafts at very reasonable prices and enjoy the changing views all the way down. Cleopatra beach is a long sandy bay fronted by hotels and restaurants and has a wide promenade all along its length. On the beach there are snack bars, toilets, open air showers and many sun beds. Prices are 3Ytl per item, i.e. 2 beds and a parasol 9Ytl for the day. We also went on a boat trip for the day, which was excellent. We found a nice Turkish bath in one of the side streets in town where we had a sauna, steam, scrub, wash, oil massage and face mudpack all for 15 Euros each and taking about 2 hours. This is something we look forward to every year. We went on the bus to a town called Manavgat where there is a large market every Thursday. The sights sounds and smells are something else. There are many other excursions that are available although we declined this year. We never book excursions through the holiday company as they are usually double the cost you can book on the street.

The Tuna Apartments are in a good location about three quarters of the way along the bay and very close to some local stores and a supermarket. Rooms are over 5 floors and there is a lift. As a 2star rated establishment the rooms are pretty basic but very s...
