we have just returned from the Kaya Belek our first time in Turkey, and we felt we needed to emphasise just how lovely the Turkish people really are, and at the same time rate this specific hotel. ARRIVAL transfer from Antalya airport was approx 25 mins which gave you enough time to enjoy the senary, but not too long. At check in we discovered that the 3 rooms that we had booked with Thompsons were not avaliable and were asked to share 2 rooms instead for 2 days, having co-operated the manager gave all 5 guests complementary massages.
ROOMS after day 2 we were all transfered to the 4th floor, we had rooms 4012,4013 and 4015 all had stunning sea views hoever the odd numbers were over looking the main pool as well. all rooms very clean will well stocked fridge. we got the impression that the higher the floor you stayed the better the room. this was evident in the fact we also were given slippers, a bath robe and toiletries which we were not on floor 2. only downside to high floor is that there are only two guest lifts which seem to take an age to go up and down,so found ourselves jumping in the service lift where possible as this was a lot quicker. oh also expect to have to visit reception at least twice during your stay for them to re set your key card.
RESTURANTS the main buffet resturant is massive with a wide range of salads, diet section, and cooked food as well as an outside section freshly cooking all types of meat, fish and breads. There are 3 al a carte resturants, the italian, far eastern and BBQ.the best one to report on was the BBQ as this was DIY dining. Each table was given a BBQ and you simply helped yourself to raw fish and meats and away you went- great we did this twice!!
BEACH lovely beach calm waters each morning always getting choppy at around midday which the locals said was normal.take flip flops to beach as sand is unbareably hot and there is a band of stones before you get to the water. we only did one trip whilst we were there with the local beach hut guy. by spead boat we went to look at some waterfalls and caves, very nice and alot cheaper that going with tour operator.
TOWN nearest town was Belek small beautiful area with a few resturants but loads of shops. always take taxi, they take you to a specific shop exchange business cards and the shop calls the taxi when you are ready to go back. Lastly, everything is priced in euros and to pay in lira they double the euro price this works out more expensive so take euros
Next to the Kaya Belek hotel is a small night club 40 lira for entry.

Have just returned from a fantastic week here and don't see what all the fuss is about! Hotel is beautiful, rooms, dining and pool areas all spotlessly clean. Food lovely and mountains of it. Breakfast nothing to write home about but enough to see you through to gorgeous pizzas made in front of you in the snack bar at lunch time. Evening meals were lush, more meat than you could ever imagine and probably a choice of 10 meals every night, most of them cooked in front of you in the ovens outside.
Lots of people complained about the air conditioning, but its Turkey, expect a glorified fan, leave it on all day and night and it does what it says on the tin!
Staff mostly helpful although English is probably their worst language. Most of them will try their best though, or ignore you and speak to someone who speaks Turkish! Check in was a disaster area so don't judge the book by the cover! Entertainment staff deserve medals the size of frying pans for effort, but professional it aint, most of the day time entertainment involved them being thrown in the pool or doing the worst dance in the world ever, badly, but you can't knock them for trying!
Bar areas all clean and service mostly quite good, if you can learn to shove and queue jump as well as other nationalities, just leave the manner at home, they do. They're also international experts at messing about in lifts, if you're in a rush, take the stairs. The lifts definitely have a mind of their own, or a foreigner inside! Had no problems getting sunloungers but saw a great barny over an umbrella one day, if you get one guard it with your life! Beach lovely and life guarded.
In general hotel fantastic, only fault we could actually find was we only had 1 drawer and 7 coathangers in the room, so living out of the suitcase was a necessity. Not much to do in surrounding area so not a hotel for the easily bored!!
Didn't go into Belek as hotel is quite a way out of the resort, were recommended to get a taxi if you wanted to go there though, taxi rank straight outside of main gates to hotel. Went into the nearest bit to hotel but didn't seem much to do, one pub and o...

Yesterday in the Sun Newspaper we read (31 BRITS IN BUG HELL)Thirty one Brits were in hosp struck down by stomach bugs. Just landed, 6am 22nd August 05.What a holiday. Read reviews on this site for a year in eager anticipation of holiday of a lifetime.
Well it surely was. Met some wonderful people from uk but also met the most disgusting dirty creatures from elsewhere in europe.
Day 1- arived 4am, tired but optimistic, aha here we go, no room ready as lost up grade imformation (great start).
Day 2- up at 6 to get sun bed before germans and RUSSIANS got there as previously warned.
Day 3- up at 6 again and got prime spot (were in here). Took kids out on jet ski and they loved the fast powerful machines on offer from a well managed watersports team.
Day 4- oh ho here comes trouble first illness takes effect (earache to young girl from other part of our party). Good job wife takes chemist shop with us.
Day 5- up at 6 as per and wife notifies me at 9 that one of kids has diarrhoea (Not my dept but we all MUCK in)
Day 6- bad to worse as we hear we are not alone when 2 more of us get it and notice a distinctive lack of brits around pool area and are told some are now being admitted into the sister hotel known as the Anatolia Hospital.
Day 7- YES IT GETS WORSE. one of our party is admitted to proper 5* Anatolia with lower bowel infection and within hours she is in operating theatre having appendix removed but hotel manager assures me she is ok after op as he has had a word with surgeon involved and is told it were an appendicitis (mmm) not according to reports after.
Day 8- thomas cook tell us there is no problems even though we now have 38 soon aquired friends(mostly children) in the nearby hospital.
I am not a scare monger this is for real and the concluding days of my summer holiday 2005 continued as above.
Yes the hotel is great and the waiters love us brits as we show them respect for their tireless 65 hour weeks for the grand sum of 300 euros (yes 300) per month to serve and smile to all of us at the grand 5* hotel KAYA BELEK.
And yes i agree with a previous review here that the belek holiday makers are becoming the bread and butter for the much acclaimed ANATOLIA HOSPITAL RESORT.
Thomas Cook should take a good hard look at themselves as holiday suppliers to us fun loving all inclusive brits as they are quickly losing us as customers as more effort is put into there german branch. We did not get an ounce of truth or even reassurance from the reps appointed to our hotel but were merely fobbed of with excuse time and again and were at times even told that the outbreak was in our heads or due to the fact that it was british parents personal hygiene that was the root cause.
Good luck to those who have shared a 2 week hell course with me and hope to see you elsewhere on a poolside sun bed some day.
P.S. those travelling soon dont forget to pack your fishing net to catch the GERMAN/RUSSIAN faeces from the pool.
And the young lady whose life has been tipped upside down and her appandix shook out, well she has now got to spend another 5 days at the 5* resort as thomas cook have declined aid to get her home as 'its not there problem no more its down to her insurance company'.
HOWS THAT FOR CUSTOMER CARE........
