My husband loved fishing by the river - it was an added bonus having a river and a beach all in one resort. Calis has a lovely friendly feel about it with a couple of noisy bars to keep the youngsters happy. So many eating places you would have to say there a month to try them all. Not too many amazing shops but I did find a lovely silver shop where I bought a few nice items. Went to the market which is held on a Sunday but nothing amazing but maybe I have been spoilt over the past few years with other markets I have visited - Fethiye, across the water is a fab market but having been there and done that we gave it a miss. The beach is not the best - shingle and a bit of sand and the sea is not the bluest but it is so warm and being on the beach gave you the welcome breeze you need to break the scorching sun. I love the beach and do prefer golden sands but would still recommend Calis as a holiday destination as the beach is spotless and the views sitting looking over to Fethiye and some of the 12 islands in that area are beautiful. Surf beach is worth a visit - a five minute taxi ride or 30 minute walk - lots more sand and lovely shaded areas.
Everyone is Calis is so friendly and what we loved is that most of local people who still predominately speak their native tongue - you really do feel you are amongst the real people. I hate being a "tourist" on holiday and you can get away from that feeling in Calis.
Would recommend anyone to go there for a holiday.

Stayed at the Oykun for two weeks in August with my husband and our son and his friend - both 15 years old and our daughter, 21, who decided tojoin us for a family holiday. It is our fifth visit to Turkey - once to Ortakent on the Bodrum Peninsula and then three years running (2004-2006) in Olu Deniz (which is about 45 minutes from Calis). Did not think I could beat Olu until visiting Calis. Calis is still so traditional and it was a pleasure to be holidaying alongside so many Turkish people and not just the British. There are still traditional places to eat in Calis - we particularly loved the tented restaurant which was full of local people and Turkish holiday makers dancing to a live band every night and next door a very basic turkish eating place where you were welcomed by a local man who spoke hardly any English but made you feel so at home. Another fab place to eat is Enya's - the owner calls himself Ian Rush and is great fun. Still found loads to do even though we have holidayed in this area several times before - highly recommend the canoeing day out - seven hours canoeing down a river - worth every blister and the boys had a fab time - mostly upside down in the canoe as the best fun was capsizing!! Jeep safari a must and hire a private boat from Calis Boat Company (down by the bridge) and enjoy a day out around the blue bays just swimming in beautiful turquoise waters.
The Oykun Hotel is fantastic. The staff are so friendly and cannot do enough for you. My daughter made lots of English and Turkish friends whilst away with us and the bar staff, in particular, would always go out with them all once they had finished their shifts and they all had such a great time. Every area of the hotel is spotless and they literally hose down every bit of the swimming pool area every single night - including all the sunbeds and cushions. The pool was actually emptied and refilled three times whilst we were there. We only had Bed & Breakfast so our review on the food can only be based on breakfast and a few snacks at lunchtime but all was delicious - fab omelettes every other morning and pancakes every other lunchtime. Oykun, the owner's son,was so helpful, as was Oykun himself and Goldie on reception. Nothing was too much trouble. We all loved our stay at the Oykun and we loved Calis - definitely our best stay in Turkey so far. Yes, Olu has the beautiful lagoon and beach but it lacks the traditional feel of Turkey that you get in Calis.

The food was basic but plentyful. The location was super, however a word of warning if you like sand the beach is shale only so take your water shoes with you as ther are a few sharp rocks in the sea. I would definatly come back to the Mutlu.

These apartments were sub standard. They were dirty, smelt. The shower rail fell off along with the balcony door handle as soon as you touched them. The shower tray was chipped and rusty. There were no adequate kitchen appliances, all the 4 mugs were chipped. The 2 sofa beds were unclean. I would certainly not recommend this hotel to anyone.

What can I say about Ten Apart? This is the only place in the universe I would return to. The welcome you receive from Talip, Nesrin, Volcan and Sarapill is something you will never find anywhere else. This is the second time we have stayed here and plan to go every year from now. There are so many good things to say about these people that I just cannot put into words. Basically, we love them very, very much.

What more can I add to all the reviews on this site. Well all I can say is that I have been to many 4+5 star hotels around the world and in Turkey but none of them have this special vibe that this hotel has. I spoke to many people staying here and was told that they had been coming to the Mutlu for 15 years some even more than 20 years and I can see why. The rooms are clean and you get clean towels every day. They are not spacious but I would say they are average. Breakfast is very good and every other day the chef is on hand to cook you a mean omelette or fried eggs otherwise your can have scrambled egg or boiled egg. The bread rolls are always fresh and this goes for all the meats, tomatoes, cheese etc. Toast and jam is on offer plus yoghart and honey. The restuarant looks out to the sea which is a bonus. All the staff are extremely friendly but I must say that Eylem is a godess, she cannot do enough for you and is always happy she is by far the nicest person I have met working in reception. If you like to stay around the pool I can vouch to the cleanliness of the pool and the gardens. There is always loungers availiable and the breeze that arrives every day whisks across the pool area and helps to cool you especially when the temperatures reached 40 degrees in the shade. All in all my opinion of this hotel is that you will find it hard to find one like it and I will definately be going back. I will post a review on Calis itself on the appropiate page. Thanks again for all at the Hotel Mutlu for making our holiday a holiday to remember.

I was dreading this holiday as we booked it fairly cheap and it was half board. I needn't have worried though as was a well run hotel with really friendly staff. The whole place was spotless. The room wasn't ideal for the 4 of us as it was just one room with 4 beds and a bathroom, however we knew what we were getting when we booked it. Rooms cleaned every day and sheets and towels left in lovely patterns such as a heart or a swan, sometimes with flowers sprinkled on. Breakfast was basic buffet style and same for tea, we didn't enjoy it and there was nothing really for my fussy daughter so we ate out after fourth day. Only had entertainment twice in the week and it wasn't up to much. Loads of day trips to do nearby and very cheap. Would definately recommend the jeep safari, about £65 for 4 of us, you get very wet and it's about 12 hours long but you don't get bored. There are lots of bars and restaurants along the front of Calis beach which is about a 5 minute walk from hotel. The U2 bar is very entertaining, the staff are mad, they pour alcohol along bar and light it, juggle fire bottles, dance on the tables and loads more, my teenagers loved it there, although the bar staff and waiters can be very friendly with the girls so keep an eye on them! It was our first time in Turkey and now we wonder why we've never been before it's so good. It can be lively but can be relaxing depending on where you choose to go or do. The people are so nice and friendly we are definately going back next year but we will try a different area.
We did a number of boat trips and found them very reasonable. The 12 islands boat trip and the market trips up the coast to Gocek, with a boat called POPEYE, 10 out of 10. Local people were very friendly.

There were 3 of us and we arrived in May for a month on half board. We were not expecting it to be as good as it was.The staff and management eager to please. This including cleaning staff and all kitchen staff. Management and reception staff all to eager to help you to enjoy your holiday. The food was of the highest standard and plenty of variety. The chef did a chefs special every morning and at dinner, cooking it there and then.We left many friends there and will go back again someday. We traveled with Travel Republic and found them very good. This was our second time with them.

Great family run hotel that deserves more than its 3 * rating. Clean and comfortable with air-con and the staff can't do enough and nothing is too much trouble. The advantage of Calis is that it is still Turkish and not yet overdeveloped. A good choice of restaurants and bars and mainly Brits on holiday as well as a fairly large contingent of ex-pats which shows the appeal. Not a great beach -stones and pebbles - but that didn't distract, and that's from beachbums. Been to Marmaris, Gumbert and Side but would place Calis and the Oykun in the top spot.
