I had no real desire to visit Turkey but i found a cheap deal to Calis and decided to chance it.
As with a lot of flights to Dalaman they were late night flights with an early return. Dalaman airport is not the best although i understand some improvements have been made this year(2006). On arrival the wait for transfers was long and boring. We had to wait nrly 1 and 1/2 hrs b4 we made a start. The transfer to Calis is about an hr and first light was just arriving so the view was good going through the mountains. Turkey was already going down in my estimations then we hit a road in the process of being built and we had to journey for 5 miles at a snails space. When we arrived at Calis my heart dropped, from the route we came in it looked like a dump, we journeyed about 3 minutes out of town down a dirt track to Han Apart agian my fist impressions were not good to say the least.
We were met by the caretaker who spoke very little english who showed us to our rooms, right next to the pool and bar, i nearly complained on the spot, i thought this would be a noisy few weeks. On entering the apartment i was pleasantly surprised. It was very large with a good size bedroom. It was about 6am so a few hrs sleep was called for.
When we awoke it was time to explore. My first impressions weren't good so i was surprised at just how much they changed in the next few hrs.
Calis Beach had a lot more to offer, the beach was hidden from view because you had to walk about 400m, the beach was not brilliant but mainly cos it was rough water and i prefer calm water but it was nice still.
Plenty of good eating places for all budgets.
But the main thing that impressed me was the range and variety of the daytrips. The prices were excellent from £10 to about £40 and they all included lunch although they all did the same food so after the 5th trip i was a little bored of chicken and or meatballs.
If you did visit you must go the jeep safaris and the visit to Pamukalle and eupheus. This trips cost £40 for adults and £20 for kids and this included a visit to both site and 4* hotel stay in a village nr pamukalle and all food whilst you are away. What an absolute bargain, also the village you stay in is so cheap turkey is not expensive as it is but the tourist areas cost more than real Turkey (obviously)
I would reccomend calis beach to anyone
