Kalkan is small but has everything. A busy harbour with boats coming and going all day. Masses of restaurants. The most friendly people. Very hilly. If you're not situated on the front you have a steep walk back or you can get a taxi. Always a price to pay for wonderful views! The beach is pebbly - ouch! But kids seem to fly over the stones to the water. The sea is somewhat cooled by a freshwater spring so can be hot, cold, hot, cold. Good for the circulatiion. Go to the Garden Cafe Bar just up from the harbour diagonally opposite the Korsan restaurant. You will get a warm welcome and the scent of Jasmine and also the cheapest Effes is Kalkan. 3 Lira for a large one. Very peaceful with the sea glinting between the trees at night.
The Hotel Pirat was an amazing place to stay and the staff are all friendly and well presented. They seem to transform the seating area around one of the pools into a comfortable outdoor restaurant with all the tables lit by little lamps and fitted cushion...

must go to kalkan turkey, it is about 2 hour transfer form dalaman but is well worth it. believe me, i am already booking a months holiday for next year, stunning. little streets winding and hilly without cute boutiques selling taduitional turkish jewellery, plates, cutlery, turkish delight. and the market on thursday in kalkan is good, better to go late afternoon as the heat and the amounts of people arent there, HAGGLE is the way forwards they wont say no to a good barter! kalkan is a definate MUST
This is my second time to kalkan, but first on my own with a friend, and i had the most amazing holiday. i defintaely recommend it to people of all ages. not recommended for people with walking difficulties as it is very hilly. i wetn in july and the wea...

Kalkan is a lovely little place, small pebbly beach, nice shops, lovely friendly people who won't harass you or follow you down the street if you don't want to buy or eat in their restaurant. The food is superb, both Turkish and European and a lot of the restaurants have terraces overlooking the harbour and marina.Don't expect discos or hectic nightlife but the shops and restaurants appear to stay open while there are any people about and there are a few friendly bars (especially good when Turkey happen to be playing in Euro 08 !) One word of caution, Kalkan appears to be built into the mountain so the streets are very steep, not for anybody with walking difficulties and not really much to cater for children, but perfect for couples and as a single lady of a certain age I was quite happy to wander around there on my own and felt quite safe. Lots of good excursions in the area - Saklikent Gorge in particular is an experience not to be missed !
Just returned from a week at the Kalamar Hotel in Kalkan with my daughter and son-in-law so two generations to please - and they did. One complaint - we didn't go for a fortnight !! As our bus drew up two waiters came running to take our suitcases and carr...

Kalkan is NOT for you if you want a sandy beach, all day English breakfast, English pubs, nightclubs etc. Most of all it is not for you if you have mobility problems - it is very hilly - don't underestimate how hilly it is! Kalkan IS for you if you want relaxing, beautiful, peaceful, and true Turkish hospitality. We loved it so much that on our return from our first visit we immediately booked to return later the same year - and we never visit the same place twice. The village is renowned for its many rooftop restaurants, accessed through narrow lanes winding down to the harbour. Good shopping too. Kalkan is more expensive than other Turkish destinations but you get what you pay for. Heaven.
We stayed at the Bellamina apartment - part of the small Emir complex in Kalkan. The location is fabulous - only a short stroll downhill to the centre of the old town with all its wonderful restaurants and shops. A 2 min walk to the nearest supermarket an...
