my partner and i visited marmaris this year for the first time, and we had a shock. the place and people were amazing. we had a fantastic time, and the weather was really hot . we were situated right behind the thursday market, which is a must!! bargins after bargins.. b prepared to haggle and you will get fab deals. i bought 22 pairs of shoes and 17 hand bags and loads of clothes. i will suggest that you do try things on mind as the sizes are totally different to ours.
our hotel was basic but clean. we only had clean sheets and towels twice that week though. the lads there were fab, they cant do enough for you . everyone was very polite and friendly. i wasant struck on the food at the hotel, and it was a little expensive compared to prices up the road.and you wasant allowed to take any food or drink back to the hotel,as you were expected to buy it from them.so we ate breakfast at dominos for a pound, and it was lovely. the hotel did get noisy at around 5am in the morning as the staff were sometimes shouting and singing and banging about. but you did get used to it after a few days.
i would definatly recommend that you hire a safe for a few pounds to as one lady had all her money pinched from her room just before we arrived. even though we had no problems i still hired one. the pool was lovely and clean and never crowded. and you always got a sunbed.it was a nice atmosphere around the pool, with the boys waiting on you hand and foot.they all work extremely hard and long hours.
the entertainment at the hotel was only once a week so we always went out. bar street is a must but very very expensive. it was 4 pounds for half a cider. so we only did a few trips there. it gets biz at around 10pm and goes on until the early hours. brill bars and night clubs. something for everyone. our favs were crazy daisys and the greenhouse. they were huge and the staff were very nice and welcoming. door staff at the food places down on the marina were somethimes very pushy. but you just say no and carry on walking. we liked to go to the places that you werent dragged in to, and the food was nice but not the same as back home.
most nights we shopped and shopped.. there are hundreds of shops which more or less sell the same things, you will spend a fortune as its so cheap.the turks always say 'cheaper than asda' . we had to buy a extra suitcase to bring everything back home. we got to know most people in the shops which were very friendly, and they dont forget your face when you go back. a lot of the turkish lads took a shine to my boyfriend and kept rubbing his bald head. some guys made it known that they were very attracted to him. so beware all you bald men.. blonds are out im affraid. you do get a lot of hassel sometimes, but never nasty.. weve been to tenerife a few times and i think they hassel you a lot more out there than turkey.
never buy any trips off the rep as they are a rip off. she wanted 22 quid for a lazy day boat trip which is a must by the way. we got it for 7 quid from a shop down the road, with exactly the same offers. everything is cheaper from the locals never the reps!!!!!!!! we payed for a dalyan transfer trip at the end of the holiday 30pound each, they make it sound brill as you go to another hotel for the night but honestly dont bother, waste of money, they take you to carpet factorys and jewellery stores to get you to buy stuff. id rather pay for a late checkout at the hotel than do that again. we had a mud bath which was discusting and we smelt for days after. an experience i wouldant do again.
over all i have to say that marmaris is a lovely place, with lovely people. excellent weather and we are definatly going back next year.we are going to try a self catering apt this time though, as we missed having a fridge etc.at the ali baba. my boyfriend and i had a excellent holiday and cant wait to go back . look out marmaris!!!!!!!

the ali baba hotel is excellent, very clean rooms cleaned every day and fresh towels every day and a very clean pool.nothing was too much trouble the lads even taught us a bit of turkish. brillant as well as a family hotel for kids plenty of sunbeds and quiet at day and night my daughter loved the pool and she still misses the lads the only problem was the mosic which did wake us up at 5 am but only for a couple of minutes and i did thought it added a bit of culture but after a couple of days you did get use to it.
for resturants i would say the marina is a bit too expensive and head the other way instead, the meals were fanstatic at 5 courses for a fiver i would highly recommend eurosky the lasagne was great and the handem was just great, the tradional food and the steaks were brillant and they clear the tables at 10pm and have a dance the garlic bread is fanstastic here but also take a trip to the market there is some great bargains but you must barter! but you also have to just walk on and say no to the hassle- you do get use to it but you will make some great friends along the way as i think the turks are fanstastic friendly people and i wish we got that service in the uk resturants
we've been four times and we will certainly be back again j downey

The resort is very nice with some lovely people who desrve a mention- the best restaurant we found is called Jana's situated on the main road to the beach from the hotel, food was beautiful, service was excellent, prices very reasonable (especially for breakfast). The 2nd time we went there I was expecying to pay by travellers cheque, unfortunatly they don't take them, but no problem, they let me pay the following day- very trusting people. Eurostar was a very nice meal but the service was poor. DO NOT eat in Brothers at the top end of town near the 'fairgrond' rides, prices are high for a very basic meal and very poor service. The owner got very threatening when I complained about the meal. We got fed up with the owner of Mr Cooks hassling us every night to try his place, so we made a point of not going.
Unfortunatly there are a couple of rouges out there as well, don't cash your travellers in the small Kiosks, I got swindled at one called Fiskos (inbetween Eurostar and Mr Cook's). The guy in Fisco's was advertising at 2.225 million lire and giving out 2.0225 million lire, quite a difference when your exchanging £100 at a time. When I went back to confront him he fobbed me off with a cock and bull story that 2.0225 is actually written as 2.225.I went back with the hotel receptionist, and Mr Fisko promptly gave me back the difference(as I said helpful hotel staff)
However don't let that detter you the vast majority of Turkish people are honest, I just don't have the time to mention them all. I would definitley go back Enjoy your holiday
