Have just returned from a 7 day stay in Dubai. We traveled on Virgin Airlines and having not used them before was pleasantly surprised with a personal selection of films, direct to your seat tv and complementary drinks, choc ices, crips etc even in the cheap seats. The addition of computer style games on the tv should keep most children happy!
We travelled with Key2Dubai and had a wonderful service, including a limo pickup at the airport for no additional charge.
We stayed at the Grand Hyatt and it was very Grand! Very modern large hotel on the outside but very plush rooms, gardens and public areas.Lots of marble, crystal and 4 60ft timber boat hulls set 3 storeys above you in the breakfast area. Excellent pool area where as it was quite warm (36c even in November)the staff came round with complementary ice cold face flannels and sprays. You dont need to take any towels poolside as these are provided. You can order and be served good quality reasonably priced food poolside from the bar and they set you up a table etc so you dont leave your lounger. When we were there plenty of loungers to go round so no getting up with the lark to beat the Germans
The hotel has many resturants, i think 14 including the pool bar. Buffet style breakfast was so large you probably will not need lunch and as they serve breakfast until 11.30 you get a decent lay in before you go down!
We ate every night in the hotel and can recommend all of the resturants. They are all good but special mention must go to the Lebanese one. Just dont eat for 2 days before hand. Set meal number 2 (not as Butlins as it sounds!) gives you 9 cold starters, 5 hot starters several plates for main course then a very large fresh fruit/arabian style sweets for dessert. When we went there was a live band with belly dancer. Staff couldnt do enough for you. That said all staff were excellent, including the ";cleaning fairy's"; who came twice a day and apart from cleaning, fresh towels etc delivered fresh fruit and a daily paper. We stayed in a Creekside room that was excellent, 8ft wide bed and plush bathroom.
We didnt go to the beach or on the desert safari so can't comment there but the 3 malls we went to were a shoppers dream. No bargains, prices similar to UK but surroundings and size make up for it.
Dont bother hiring a car. taxi's cheap, about half uk prices and trust me you wouldnt want to drive over there and I've driven in Paris!
All in all can only recommend Dubai, especially the Grand Hyatt.
Hope this helps
Geoff
