We were met at the airport by two reps, they had our names on a board, who shook our hands and picked up our cases and put them into the mini bus.(We felt like royalty) We had three drop offs before we came to our hotel around forty minute drive. It was interesting to see what the other hotels were like though.

The hotel was fantastic, immaculate rooms, slippers and robes, fruit and wine in the room every day. Just a small gripe, our room was not ready until late afternoon when it should have been ready at 2pm. After we complained, the hotel manager gave us a complimentary lunch and a bottle of wine as compensation. The suite was fantastic and the surroundings beautiful. The beach was also fantastic with staff cleaning your sunglasses every two hours and putting up parasoles and getting drinks for you on the beach. You could even have a henna tattoo if you wanted one for a small price, on the beach. The food was second to none and you could also use the Jebli Ali restaurants, next door to the Palm for a small supplement. ( we were half board ) Didn't think much of Shooters restaurant but the Italian and the chinese were very good.

In the Palm there was a singer playing the piano most evenings which was very pleasant and the hotel next door had entertainment as well which was not so good. Think again if you want lots of night life as it was relatively quiet and a bit out of the way. Fantastic golfing facilities though and spa. One evening we were invited up to the manager's private function room for cocktails and champagne met some very interesting people.

The hotel runs a free shuttle bus into the main part of Dubai. From the centre we got on a tour bus really good thing to do as you can see all whats going on and it was good to see the Burj al Arab. We will definitely make a reservation for tea and cakes the next time we visit. Was told to book well in advance it was around £30 pp so we were told. Go the the Ibn Butatta Mall - absolutely fantastic as well as the Emirates. Fantastic shops, not all designer and high prices. We did go to the gold souk, but go in the morning rather than late afternoon. We felt a little uneasy there, it was late afternoon we were hassled all the time to buy very good designer bags, so we decided to get a taxi back. Took about an hour and it only cost us £20. But the jewellery and diamonds were fantastic. I am saving up for next time to buy some more diamonds! Bought a ring from the jewellers in the hotel and it was quite reasonable.

The last two days we hired a car which was cheap to hire. Everyone said how brave we were to drive out there but have you driven in London lately! Didn't think they were mad drivers at all.

Well Dubai is certainly an amazing place to visit. If you like hot weather, lovely people, especially the staff at the Palm, shopping, eating fine food then its definitely the place to go. With all the building works going on its mind blowing.

We can't wait to go back next year.
