If you want to stay in the height of luxury at an affordable price - then this is the place to go.
The hotel is superb. The many staff cannot do enough for you and the food in all of the restaurants is excellant. There are three parts to the hotel and we stayed in the Arabian Court. If architecture is your thing, then this is the hotel to stay in. I cannot say enough to recommend this hotel. As for Dubai, it is extremely clean, the locals are very friendly and there is much to do and see. We took an open top bus tour of the city where you could hop on and off as you wished. The commentary was very informative and it included a walking tour of the souks (bazaars). Cost for this was about £20 each (ticket valid for 24 hrs). If you get a chance, visit the Burj Al Arab, the only 7 star hotel in the world. Very opulent but a bit over the top! The shopping malls are fantastic and you'll find designer clothes etc at very reasonable prices. Temperature in January was a very pleasant 68-72 degrees.

The One and Only Royal Mirage is possibly one of the best hotels I have stayed in. There was no fault with the hotel or service, I consider it more than a 5*. The only drawback is that the beach is at the side of the new Palm Jumeriah which is being constructed 24 hours a day. BUT the noise is relatively limited and certainly at night you would not know that it was a construction site. I certainly would not let that deter me from returning, which we will be definately doing.
The weather is very hot 42 degrees but guaranteed sunshine. Having travelled to Bangkok, Koh Samu, Singapore, Maldives within the last 2 years and had rain in nearly every place, we needed to ensure that it was dry and it certainly was.
I booked the flight (Emirates) via Expedia and the hotel direct. Looking in the brochures we saved £300 per couple. As it is a scheduled flight there is very little chance of the flight being cancelled so you are fairly confident of getting there.
Dubai is a construction site, but once in the grounds of the Royal Mirage with its manacured gardens and beautiful pools you forget the outside world. We stayed for 7 nights but would not go for any more.
So if you want a new place to visit that hasn't got your usual Spain holidaymaker then go before it gets too popular. We are off again in February 2005 and guess where to the Royal Mirage.
This hotel could not be faulted from the moment we arrived at dubai airport we felt like royalty we got picked up in a top of the range mercades car (NO WAITING) and was whisked off to the hotel.

We arrived at the hotel and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We were allocated our room but when we got there we was not happy as it wasnt a sea view and was on the ground floor and we wanted to be higher up, they immediatley moved us to a better room with a sea view and balcony. The room also could not be faulted it had a walk in wardrobe, luxury bathroom with walk in shower, everything was great.
The swimming pool and beach was also lovely, the grounds of the hotel was amazing. I visited the Givency spa in the hotel and had a relaxing facial and massage which was the best treatments ive had in all the spas ive been in, they make you feel like a princess. The main resturant which had a buffet service was nice for breakfast and dinner but we were mainly out at night in the malls so we tended to go to the hard rock cafe (2 mins in a taxi) or planet hollywood. All of the malls have great shopping but it tends to be the same prices as at home.
I would definitley go back to Dubai and would only stay at this hotel.
If you do go to Dubai you must visit Karama, its the market about 10 mins drive away, some great ";designer";stuff to be had. The restaurants in the Hotel are second to none, the ";beach "; is about 30 yards from the shores of the arabian gulf, its so romantic to take a walk along the wonderful sand after dinner, The sea during the day is like warm bath water. I am going back again and again, you should try it, you wont regret it....
