Not having been to San Francisco before I didn't really know what to expect. When we got dropped off at the Hotel I was a bit unsure of the area and wasn't sure how safe I would feel in the evening. I have to say that the area was fine, although it was a good 10min walk to Union Square (great shopping). The hotel staff were superb & made us feel totally at ease and gave us all the help we needed with tourist information. There is a free wine reception in the lobby of the hotel every evening at 6 o'clock, for all the guests and I thought it was a really nice touch as it gave us a chance to speak to other tourists and get the names of the best places to see/eat etc. There is a lovely restuarant next door to the Carlton called Brick the food was really good & reasonably priced, we were there on a Thursday night and there was live music which was very good. Peir 39 is a lively fun place and is a must to visit. If going to Alcatraz it is important to book before you travel to ensure you get to go on the day you want. Overall I would recommend the Carlton.

Santa Barbara is nice, the weather makes this place very special indeed. The main street is filled with good shops and bars, it's a good twenty minute walk down to the beach and the pier.

The beach was suprisingly dirty and the quality of the water left a lot to be desired, I was surpised that such a high quality town wouldn't invest heavily in the quality of the beach. One of the other bad points was the amount of homeless people and beggars, they were everywhere and even though not aggressive they can make you feel uneasy. The Yanks are a funny lot and seem to think that they are the only country in the world but once you engage them they do open up.

Make sure you eat at Arigato Sushi, unbelievable!!

I stayed here on a business trip and have to say that I loved it. The rooms aren't huge in size but they have great facilities and a good level of comfort. Compared to hotel rooms in Britain they are fantastic! The TV's are huge and the little things are...

I stayed here on a business trip and have to say that I loved it. The rooms aren't huge in size but they have great facilities and a good level of comfort. Compared to hotel rooms in Britain they are fantastic! The TV's are huge and the little things are all there, from a nice highpowered hairdryer to the biggest mini bar selection I have ever had. The staff in the hotel are really friendly and go out of their way to make you feel at home, the humble serving staff make you feel right at home.

Make sure you sample some of the fantastic breakfasts on offer, they are huge and of a really high quality - eat late when you're hungry to make to most of them.

The pool terrace is stunning, even though the pool isn't huge it is a lovely setting and with views of the sea and the hills you will be amazed by the beauty on offer - I have never felt so far away from home (in a good way).

Please stay at this hotel when in long beach. Me and my girlfriend both 21 stayed here 5 nights and loved everything about it. Everything you would find fault with in a normal hotel seens ok here because the age of the boat, the rooms are ment to feel old fashioned along with the rest of the ship. Amazing view if your looking over the river towards long beach. Free bus into long beach which is wicked and will also take to round alot of long beach. also the water bus is 1 dollar or 3 dollars for the bigger one that goes up the coast to seal beach! Highly recommend it.

LA hotel good and well situated. Very few bars. Most eateries are American Diners not like our restaurants. Nevertheless Mels Diner right out of the hotel and 10 minutes down Highland is worth a visit. The movie American Graffiti was shot there and it maintains its retro style. Nice steaks! Get local bus to santa Monica Beach.

Jetsavestour was most enjoyable. The hotels were generally satisfactory or better apart from Days Inn, Fresno that was musty and in a dodgya area. The Imperial Hotel, Vegas and the Beresford, San Francisco do not provide a coffee maker. The longer stop hotels at LA, Vegas and Frisco were all well situated for amenities. Restaurants are hard to find on the West coast. Most eateries are takeaways or eatins furnished similarly to our Macdonalds or KFCs. There are Diners which are much the same and have waitresses who are very cheesy and virtually sing when they speak to you. Food prices are about the same or cheaper than the UK. There are very few bars and most are like small diners with the lights dimmed! The Tour Director is good fun and full of catchphrases e.g. Shoot, thats paperwork,it is what it is, your freakin me out.. Everyone mimics him. He can be economical with the truth to sell his excursions. In Hollywood (Hollywierd) you can easily go to Santa Monica beach on public transport. Go right out of the hotel and down Highland 6 blocks to Santa Monica Boulevard and get the local bus to the beach - $3 return and 45 minutes each way! Before visiting Santa Monica beach there is a complex nearby the bus drop off, which has several takeaways with seating on the main street (parallel with the beach) including a Macdonalds, which is half UK prices. After visiting the pier you can enjoy a nice 30-minute walk along to Venice. There are eateries outside the Hospitality Suite, Scottsdale although the Taste of the West, excursion is a really good night. San Francisco by Night excursion was not so enjoyable or good value. ! LA and Vegas were hot enough for shorts but Frisco cooler. Fabulous! Take your camera and plenty of memory cards. Enjoy! We did!

SF is the right size to see without a car. You have the cable cars and F-Line trams as well as trolley buses to move around city and BART connection is cheap and fast from airport or to go around too.Hills for walkers could be difficult but can be avoided or travelled by public transport if need be. There is an abundance of tours within city or by water around bay area and outside city there are day trips to Wine country, Monterey and Carmel or even Yosemite. The people are very friendly and polite,on streets and also in the shops which especially round Union Square and Market street range from bargain to top of the range.SF oozes charm and is very clean.

Stayed with son from 10/April till 15th. Staff are pleasant and courteous and room (1400) was on high floor as requested. It was clean and airy with pristine white linen on beds. The bathroom was well stocked and clean too. We also had a small walkin room to hang clothes that also contained a safe, iron and board as well as spare pillows and duvet and an umbrella. The tv was good quality with stacks of chanels. Breakfast was filling and good menu offered. From mid afternoon in the lobby you could, for free, make coffee or tea and take cookies or even, somedays, popcorn too. I would honestly if returning to SF not consider looking for another hotel as it also was located by Union Square so on spot for shopping and cable car stop is outside hotel .Hand on heart this hotel was perfect and staff care about wellbeing of guests.

The Hotel is not 5 star but it has everything you will need, very large rooms with full kitchen, free laundry, free breakfast, helpful and friendly staff and a great location. It is situated just off the Santa Ana freeway which is the main road out of Anaheim, so it is easy to access anywhere- LA,Hollywood,San Diego.

You will need a car as everything in LA is at least 1 hour away although the nearest beach is only 20mins - Huntington beach. Would recommend hiring beach cruisers as they are loads of fun. Also buy a map of the stars homes,we chose to follow the map on our own instead of going on an organised tour that way we could view the homes we were interested in and not a bus full of peoples. Get sat navigation in the car it will make life alot easier especially if you are going to see the stars homes on your own. Take a drive up Mulholland Drive it is a long road but the views you get of Hollywood and downtown LA are amazing-the best you will see.

Santa Monica beach is a must see ask the lifeguard to let you hold the famous red float in the lifeguard tower and be a baywatch babe for a minute or two. Beverly Hills is a real playground for the rich and famous,it will leave you in awe. The whole LA experience is like something out of a film it will be a box office hit for you or a Hollywood flop.

I flew to San Fran with United Airlines, for 5 nights at the Stanford Court and was not disappointed.
UA is a fantastic airline - the best I have ever encountered, and would definately recommend them if you are planning on booking your flight separately.

The Stamford Court was simply perfect. The rooms were immaculate, large and really well appointed. Complimentary coffee and papers brought to your room just after your wake up call was a nice touch. The lobby was stunning and gennerally speaking the whole hotel was just wonderful, staff included. It is a 5* and ranked as one of the top 99 hotels in the world, but it's not pretentious and there is a really nice atmosphere there - not like some other 5*.
The real selling point for my mum and I though was the location - right atop Nob Hill' with the Powell and California cable crossing right outside the entrance (not noisy at night - anyway it stops running at 12ish).

With regard to the place, San Francisco is without a shadow of a doubt THE BEST place I have ever been to. If you are interested here are some tips;
- although you can buy tickets for alcatraz in san fran, I would buy them over the internet a month before if pos as I heard a lot of people moaning they couldnt get tickets for the days/times they wanted.
- admittedly Fishermans Wharf is very Great Yarmouthy, but it does have some fabulous restaraunts particularly if you like Italian and seafood.
- book a day trip to Napa. My mum and I had such a good time - the scenery is breathtaking and the wine isn't bad either. You must do this even if you're not into wine or indeed a wine buff (we're not).
- take a trip up twin peaks for the best views of the bay
- walk along the Golden Gate Bridge - it's better than just looking at it from the recreation area.
- if you plan on going to Lombard Street to take photos/ walk up it I would do this EARLY morning. It just gets so busy and you cant get any photos without strangers in them. try and jump on the first cable car of the morning (the powell line going in the direction of Fishermans Wharf) and get off at Lombard Street
- chinatown is alright but I wouldnt dedicate to much time to it - couple of hours max.
- there is an outside bar in the centre of union square - drinks are a bit pricey but its fab for people watching (lots of freaks).

I could go on because there is just so much to do - we're going back to do all the things we didn't get a chance to first time round.

It is a wonderful place - enjoy.
