Stayed with son from 10/April till 15th. Staff are pleasant and courteous and room (1400) was on high floor as requested. It was clean and airy with pristine white linen on beds. The bathroom was well stocked and clean too. We also had a small walkin room to hang clothes that also contained a safe, iron and board as well as spare pillows and duvet and an umbrella. The tv was good quality with stacks of chanels. Breakfast was filling and good menu offered. From mid afternoon in the lobby you could, for free, make coffee or tea and take cookies or even, somedays, popcorn too. I would honestly if returning to SF not consider looking for another hotel as it also was located by Union Square so on spot for shopping and cable car stop is outside hotel .Hand on heart this hotel was perfect and staff care about wellbeing of guests.

SF is the right size to see without a car. You have the cable cars and F-Line trams as well as trolley buses to move around city and BART connection is cheap and fast from airport or to go around too.Hills for walkers could be difficult but can be avoided o...

We flew to San Francisco on Virgin which we booked on the internet direct very good. Transfers from Airport try and use the shuttle bus $10ea plus tip. Stayed at the Chancellor Hotel on Union Square for 5 days.(booked direct via internet)Very nice hotel clean and friendly. it was very central to all the points on interest and restaurants, the famous cable trolley ride is just outside the hotel where you can get a $10 all day pass to fishermans wharf and pier 39, but if you feel up to it walk as you see much more of the sights like the crooked road on lombard street. The city tour is a must you get audio on the bus which is good,it take in all the main sights last 3hrs.Alcatraz was amazing long queues, try and get ticket early in the morning for the pm boats or book by internet before you go as you get a time slot.

Do try a clam chowder, get it from one of the sea food stands, adjacent to the fishermans wharf sign, cheaper and bigger portions. The weather was up in the 75 deg, but beware of the sea mist over the bay,it comes in very fast and gets cold rapidly. The sea lions are great they are at pier 39.The restaurants on the pier are all good especially the seafood ones, about £40 with drinks for 2 people. Martin Luther King memorial garden is worth a visit lovely gardens, water falls and streams nice just to chill out for a hour or so.Go to Lori's 50's diner great atmosphere and very good food.Go through China town most places you won't charge tax if you buy anything to bring home very friendly place. The jazz restaurant is very good just of powell street. live music great atmosphere in walking distance to hotel most meal in the evening with drinks were no more than £40 for two.The hotel will get you a shuttle bus back to airport. This was a great holiday i would recommend the hotel to anyone and union square as a place to stay. When we spoke to the locals they say late winter early spring is the best time to go Feb/May.

Just to be aware you do get beggars on the street corners, but they are friendly dont be intimidated if you dont give anything, they will say "; have a nice day"; you are in a city after all
