wow - both hotel and las vegas blew us away.
1st of i would like to say we came to las vegas to get married and that is an experience i would recommend to anybody.

we stayed in the venezia towers in a terazzo suite (the only rooms in the venetian with a terrace). if you stay in the venezia towers you are able to use an extra pool area which is a little like a court yard on a roof. if you stay in a terazzo room you are right next to this and so we never used the terrace once because it was not at all private and was very noisy. we payed quite a lot extra to have that terrace and i did regret it because for the same price we could have had an even better suite). once you shut the french doors though you cant hear a sound and the room was beautiful. there are 2 queen beds, a large sunken living room with lark desk, wardrobe coffee table etc. the hall ways make you feel as though you are walking through a venetain palace or something. i have stayed in some beautiful hotels in some of the most beautiful places in the world but i have never stayed anywhere as amazing and extravagant as this hotel.

the shopping centre is lovely - you really do feel as though you are walking around venice. there is afast food court if you dont want anything fancy to eat - in my opinion the best places in there are haagan daz and nathans famous (they use the hotdogs in the world famous eating contest). nathans are actually the best burgers in the world - i am not a fan of fast food but my husband is and even i wanted to go back every day for lunch. madame tussauds is in the venetian and worth a look.

my husband and i are not gamblers but the casinos are amazing. if you dont look at least 21 make sure you carry a passport otherwise you wont be able to stand in a bar or casino. shopping is wonderful. make sure you check out caesars palace shopping centre, the aladins cave shopping centre (i think this hotel is becoming a planet hollywood hotel) and the fashion mall (which is on the strip near treasure island). you can make of las vegas whatever you want to. we didnt gamble one penny and neither of us are into nightlife or fancy resteraunts but during the day with all the shopping and museums and things like that we managed to tire ourselves out completely.
we went in june/july and it was VERY hot - i think it averaged at about 40 degrees celcius a day.

las vegas is probably the most friendly place i have ever been to - the atmosphere is great.
a wonderful place to go.

The suites (not rooms) were very large and comfortable, and the service was very polite and swift. Excellent in every way, and we can recommend it.

After touring the USA for 3 weeks, my fiancee and I arrived in Vegas to get hitched, Elvis styleee!

Stayed at The Venetian which is the best hotel on the strip bar none. Don't believe all the hype around Bellagio - if you want the 'Vegas Experience' with a touch of luxury, stay at The Venetian.

As we were honeymooners, the manager upgraded our suite to one with views, a whirlpool bath, 2 bathrooms, 3 TV's and on the day we wed we received flowers and bubbly. I felt like a highland princess in my wedding gown and my fiancee felt like William Wallace out of Braveheart in his kilt, as the people in our hotel had no idea about highland dress (we're Scottish). The attention we received was, at times, breathtaking. One lady asked my now hubby why he was wearing a skirt and if he was wearing anything under it!

The Venetian is magical - just the experience of the 24hour blue sky in the shopping mall is worth losing a few bucks in the casino. Basically, it was a once in a lifetime experience and at £280 for 3 nights with Trailfinders, an absolute bargain. By the way, our marriage is still going strong....unlike Britney's.

Depends why you are visiting Vegas as to where you should stay. We visited to gamble (a little), drink (a bit more), eat (quite a lot) and chill out in the warmth.

So we chose to stay at THE VENETIAN at a cost of £130/$206 a night in a suite overlooking the Strip with amazing views over Treasure Island Pirate Fight and The Mirage Volcano.

Our room was on the 32nd floor so great views (I wouldn't be so happy lower down and apparently these rooms are noisier) with a king size bed on a raised area, seating /dining/study area on the lower level and a huge bathroom including bath for 2.

Vegas is all about money. If you don't have it then don't expect great service. This place is nothing like the rest of the States - if you are not a high roller or don't tip big then don't get stressed out if you are not treated in a special way. My tip is to dress well, then they will treat you well as they think you are wealthy, and will therefore tip them well (your choice thereafter).

HEAT - Noone tells you how hot - 115F is stifling during the day and it doesn't get much cooler at night.

SHOPPING - Not something we are into but all of the better hotels have large shopping malls (The Venetian is a little different as it does feel a bit like Venice rather than the rest feel like any nice shopping centre).

GAMBLING - Again, unless you are betting more than $100 a hand forget about anything special. Most of the gaming floors are pretty similar.

DRINKING - Avoid the $1 drinks places as they have clientele who are gambling/drinking addicts so not quite the chilling wine bar. We drank in V @ Venetian (trendy wine bar/club feel), POSTRIO @ The Venetian (great bartenders), ZEFFERINIS @ The Venetian (very stylish), CAHONAVILLE @ Treasure Island (amazing display bartenders but downmarket people at bar including hookers!).

EATING - STAR CANYON @ The Venetian (very relaxing, good food). RAINFOREST CAFE @ MGM Grand for breakfast was ok. Mexican at MANDALY BAY for lunch which was very good and they have water sprays to keep you cool. Best place to eat for a Vegas feel was MON AMI GABI @ Paris Paris where we had a table on the air-con terrace directly opposite the Bellagio fountains. The waiter (Terence) was excellent, the food very good and the fountains every 15 mins completed a wonderful meal. GRAND LUX @ The Venetian is a great place to eat throughout the night if you get caught in that sleepless night trap. SPAGO @ Caesars Palace is another Wolfgang Puck creation and the food is excellent but be sure to 'order' a break between food as 2 courses arrived when I was in the loo!

GRAND CANYON - At £161/$255 this was an expensive trip but still not sure if it was worth it. The Grand Canyon is certainly worth seeing but we did it in a helicopter which included a picnic in the Canyon, an hour on the floor of the canyon, a sunset view and a fly down the Strip (definitely the best part of the experience). Personally I would do one of the $100 hour flights as I don't think you get much more out of the more expensive trips.

SPAS - The Canyon Ranch @ The Venetian was voted best in the world by Conde Nast. It costs $30 so about the same as a day rate at a good hotel in the UK but feels like an oasis amongst the storm of craziness. Wonderful.
