New York, New York so good they named it twice, and i can see why. A fantastic place to visit with so much going on its hard to know where to start. As it was our first time in NY we did all the touristy things, Empire State, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island,Rockefella Centre, Times Square amongst others. So much to do and see that we will have to go back to do it all again. Lots of good eateries all over the city catering for all tastes in numerous types of cuisine. Had my eggs benedict in a NY diner just a block from Times square, one of lifes great little experiences. If you want a romantic restaurant then try The River Cafe, Brooklyn. Situated just below the Brooklyn Bridge with views over the water to Manhattan. The service was first class, the food was superb and the atmosphere was sublime. i fully recommend the River Cafe if you intend to pop the question to your beloved. I did and it was an evening we both will remember for the rest of our lives.

The best thing about the Paramount Hotel is its location. Only 150 yards from Times Square made it a superb base for exploring the marvellous city of New York. As we were only there for 5 days 4 nights and we only used the hotel for sleeping, we did not use the hotels dining services. The rooms were small to the point of being cramped but were blessed with a really comfortable bed which helped our weary legs recover from the days sightseeing. The hotel entrance foyer looked alot more impressive in the photos on the website and was looking a little dated and worn out on our arrival. The corridors on each floor to the rooms were quite grubby and with no pictures or decoration looked quite daunting as you walked to your room. Overall, i would go back to the Paramount Hotel if only for its location.

Stayed at the 'Smelly Welly' for my 40th Birthday. Your experience depends completely on which floor you are located on. The upper floors have been refurbished the lower floors have not. Our first room was on the 4th floor. it was cramped, no room for a suitcase anywhere, dirty, hairs in the bed, unironed bed linen and it smelt disgusting. There was a tray, obviously been left after room service outside our door, not appesling to arrive to. We complained and were offered an upgrade to a queen room for $20 each night the next day. We complained about this as the pictures on the website and leaflets were very misleading and were given a room by a charming receptionist for no extra cost. This was on the 22nd floor, it has an amazing view onto Times square and was very comfortable, just what I would have expected. if you do go and are not happy with your room them complain, rooms 2039 2139 and 2239 are fine for the money, we saw them all.
The bellboys are helpful but do push drivers to you, however having said that we got a lovely car to the airport with our extra luggage that an ordinary yellow cab would not have been able to carry for $55, that's only $5 more than a yellow cab.
Can't comment on the food as did not want to eat in the hotel after seeing the dirt in the stair wells, absolutely disgusting!!!
Fantastic location, out the hotel front door, turn left, 5 mins walk to Times Square, turn left, 5 mins walk to Central Park, subway station right outside the door.
Hotel gift shop very helpful for booking trips and tours.
I would not recommend this hotel unless you can specify which room you want to stay in and that would come at some cost.
Excellent holiday - nothing more to say. Everyone must experience New York at some point.

Hotel was in excellent location, however, we were told our room was upgraded (should have been 2 singles but got 2 doubles). But think we got a room that no-one else would stay in.

The bathroom ceiling was covered in mould and paint was peeling away, and even fell off on a couple of occasions onto the toilet seat!
The air con unit under the window was leaking so carpet was constantly soaking wet & therefore the room smelled of damp the whole time we were there.
Looking back I wish I had complained, however, we were too tired after all the travelling and therefore just put up with what we had.
Overall, the location and security of hotel was excellent, cleanliness was disgusting in my opinion. Would not recomend this hotel to anyone.
you must see it - fantastic

This was our first trip to New York and exceeded all of our expectations!! Every day took our breath away, we were certainy kept busy, we walked everywhere as to not miss a thing!! Youn MUST visit the Rockafella centre to go to the top you get a panormaic view of Manhattan which is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen! Central park is beautiful! We spent one day visiting the financial district which included ground zero, which was certainly an experience, we then got the ferry over to the Statue of Liberty which was amazing and our favourite day! We went in February and I have never experienced cold like it!! But weirdly it added to the whole experience. Eating out was great, but remember you have to add tax on to everything! The Ressette restaurant was gorgeous! Ask at reception and they'll book for you, the pork tenderloin in cranberry sauce was beautiful, we also had lunch at Gran Central Station on the main balcony which was only a burger but delicious. Our favourite was the Brynat Park grill in Bryant Park itself, which at the time overlooked New York Fashion Week, excellent for celeb watching and beautiful at night. We flew with British Airways and American Airlines which were very comfortable and friendly, a yellow cab from JFK to Manhattan s a fixed rate of $50.

The hotel was very dated, not modern at all, however the service was very good, the hotel itself was also very secure with security always on to check your id. The hotel is in an excellent location on Broadway, it literally is right in the middle of Times Square where the MTV TRL studios were as well as Good Morning America. There really is a Starbucks on every corner!! Anytime we needed to know where a bar or restaurant was we only had to ring reception who hapilly booked on our behalf.

hotel in absolutely perfect location, 2mins from empire state, 5mins from macys & just about walking distance from central park! asked for non smoking room but none available, room pretty standard, bathroom in need of a re-fit. Room service brilliant, great choice & all reasonably cheap. shopping fab & helicopter ride from the pier is a must, im petrified of heights but has to be done, didnt make it up the empire state though! we went for our honeymoon july 2007 & although it met all our basic need wish we'd spent that bit extra & gone a bit 'posher'. if your looking for a base & just wanna shop til you drop its definatly the perfect crash pad! booked & flew with virgin, coulnt reccomend them more!

This was our first trip to New York, we stayed at the Hotel Edison which is located approximately 2 minutes walk from Times Square. The hotel was very clean and all the staff were extremely helpful at all times, the safety deposit boxes were free of charge (unlike in Europe) you would only incur a charge if you lost the key, which we thought was fair enough. We also suggest that you buy a New York City Pass prior to your visit, this gets you into numerous attractions, Empire State Building, Madame Tussards, various museums and discounts in places such as Planet Hollywood. We went to New York in mid April so we expected the weather to be a little cold, we were really lucky we had temperatures in the high 70’s low 80’s so no coats were needed after all. We did all the sights, shopping, Central Park, Manhattan Island boat trip, we used the hop-on hop-off Gray Line bus service, this was a great way to see New York as there are guides on the buses who are very informative. If you ever go to Times Square, look for Carmines Restaurant, the portions are huge (hint) there were 3 of us, and we only bought 2 meals as advised by the waiter and there was more than enough, the steak was enormous it fed 3 of us. As I mentioned earlier this was our first trip to New York but it will certainly not be the last, we will definitely visit New York again in the near future, the place is amazing.

Loads to do in NY - we found the bus tours a great way of seeing the city - they're hop on/hop off, so you can choose where to stop off. Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island really good, but LOTS of waiting around (especially if you've got a pre-booked monument pass, as they do more security checks) - be prepared to be very patient if you want to actually get off the ferry and look around these places, but it's worth the ferry trip if only for the good view that you get of the S o L - it doesn't look much from Battery Park, you need to get out on the water. Views of the Empire State building are great from the Top of the Rock, and can recommend Greenwich Village for a more laid back New York experience.

The hotel is in a fantastic location - we went through Times Square at least twice a day each day. Rooms are tired and cramped, but clean enough. Don't trust the hotel staff though - they seem to have some kind of deal with a taxi co called Sammy's Limo. We were told by a porter that the $45 dollar flat rate for yellow cabs does not apply on the way back to the airport, and that we could be charged much more if there is a lot of traffic. I think this was a lie, but we booked Sammy's Cab anyway - as it turned out, the cab drove into the back of a van on the way back to the airport. Luckily for us we weren't doing any great speed, as the middle seatbelt did not work (this could have been dangerous if we'd been going faster). The driver did not ask if we were OK, was just concerned about his taxi. I would say just go for a yellow cab and ignore any other 'advice' you're given.
