Clean, friendly and convenient. Wow, New York has been a truely wonderful experience and we couldn't have had the best start of our global holidays without the kids!!!!!

We went to New York for my 30th birthday, I've been fortunate enough to have visited NY a few times before, but for my boyfriend this was a first.

We chose to stay at this hotel after all the reviews we had read on this website, and it certainly didn't disappoint when we arrived. The location couldn't be more perfect., Macy's and the Empire State on your doorstep. The rooms are clean, decent size and comfortable. The complimentary breakfast is also a nice littel extra.

If you are into eating good food, then these are some of the places you shoudl visit: 'Gotham Bar and Grill' it's very chic, contemporary and classy... the food and presentation is like none other, and neither is the bill! I think it was about $170 for two of us, including wine. But, if you want to celebrate a special occasion then it's definitely the place to go.

We then went to a restaurnant on 58th and Maddison called 'TAO' it's a Japanese fusion restauarnt, very different to Gotham, it's very dark, trendy, and has a real buzzy club atmosphere about it, it defiintely attracts a younger crowd. Great Sushi. Very busy, so try and book a table as soon as you get to NY, we booked a table for 10.30 on a Sunday night and it was still very busy.

Next restuarant was 'Tribeca Grill' - this restaurant is owned by Robert De Nero great steaks! This is very old school, so once again very differnent from the other two restaurants we visited. The food was lovely. It was about $140 for the two of us, but we didn't have any wine.

I know I'm writing loads, but we experienced so much it's worth sharing... If you want jewelllery...diamonds/silver go to 'Jewellery on Fifth) address is 5th and 47th Street. It's a bit like Hatton Garden, you walk in and there are about 50 - 60 counters all owned by different people selling their stuff. My boyfriend bought me the most gorgeous ring there. Remember to haggle..don't pay the first price you see.

Centrury 21 is a discount store right opposite Ground Zero. They sell designer labels at major discounts...I saw a pair of '7' Jeans in Bloomingdales, and they were £149.00 in Century 21 I saw a pair for $89.00!

Most importantly get a good guide book. We bought 'A brit's guide to New York' - it's re-written every year to keep it up to day. It's written by Karen Marchbank and Amanda Statham and I thought it was execellent. Maps are very easy to read and they have catered for everyones' needs.

Enjoy your trip. Can't wait to do it again.

Have just returned from a 5 night stay at the Hotel Metro. We would highly recommend this hotel - the location is fantastic with 5th Avenue at one end of the block and Macy's at the other!

Our room (416) was an excellent size and fully equipped with safe (free!), good size fridge, iron and ironing board, powerful hairdryer, plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. The bed was very comfortable. All toiletries are supplied so no need to pack them! The television is huge and there is also an alarm clock/radio.

A complimentary breakfast is supplied between 6.30 and 11 am - lovely muffins, bagels, bread (a toaster is provided), yoghurts, fruit, cereals, danish pastries, juice, tea and coffee. Tea and
coffee is also available 24/7 in the breakfast room.

The staff are friendly and very helpful - always there to answer any questions. Check out is at noon, but they are very happy to store your luggage for as long as you need.

The one thing that I would recommend everyone to do is the Top of the Rock at the Rockefeller Centre - amazing views over Central Park which you don't get at the Empire State. Also there were no queues and the staff were very friendly - unlike at the Empire State where you were herded like cattle and shouted at!!

Shopping is amazing - and from 1st April they have abolished the tax on clothing! We went to Southstreet Seaport which had been recommended for shopping but were rather disappointed. The best shops were in 34th Street and, of course, 5th Avenue. Found Macy's much better than Bloomingdales - and because it's so close to the hotel, not so far to carry all those bags!! Go to the visitors centre at Macy's first and pick up your 11% discount voucher which is valid for everything except cosmetics.

Can't wait to return to New York and the Hotel Metro!!

Previous reviews say it all about New York. Hotel excellent with good, helpful staff and a filling FREE breakfast. Good central location made it easy to stop off, unload shopping, have a coffee before heading back out into the throng. Saw the Blue Man Group off Broadway and therefore half the price of top rated Broadway shows. Superb show.
Flew into/out of Newark - nice airport. Security keen without being over the top.
