"Not Impressed"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Hotel was in excellent location, however, we were told our room was upgraded (should have been 2 singles but got 2 doubles). But think we got a room that no-one else would stay in.
The bathroom ceiling was covered in mould and paint was peeling away, and even fell off on a couple of occasions onto the toilet seat!
The air con unit under the window was leaking so carpet was constantly soaking wet & therefore the room smelled of damp the whole time we were there.
Looking back I wish I had complained, however, we were too tired after all the travelling and therefore just put up with what we had.
Overall, the location and security of hotel was excellent, cleanliness was disgusting in my opinion. Would not recomend this hotel to anyone.

If your on budget it's ideal! The hotel is a tad old and dosen't have many modern features. The rooms were clean and suitable. The hotel is perfect for those who just want somewhere to sleep, while your in New York th last thing you want to do is stay in your hotel!! The best feature about the hotel is it's location!! We could see them filming Good Morning America from our window!!

The hotel was very dated, not modern at all, however the service was very good, the hotel itself was also very secure with security always on to check your id. The hotel is in an excellent location on Broadway, it literally is right in the middle of Times Square where the MTV TRL studios were as well as Good Morning America. There really is a Starbucks on every corner!! Anytime we needed to know where a bar or restaurant was we only had to ring reception who hapilly booked on our behalf.

arrived by american airlines thats how to fly. pre booked the blue bus to hotel NEVER AGAIN driver rude not a good driver and demands a tip even if he has keep't you at the airport for nearly an hour getting extra passangers. arrived at hotel eventualy. first impression good. hotel wanted credit card details only.
given keys to room no bag service . room very small for four adults shower didn't work properly. staff not very helpful, forgot to tip maid first day result no towels.your opposite the playpen a girlie place there are a number of slezzie video storesin the area so expect to have to prove your a resident by showing your room keys each time you return, they don't want the place becoming a knocking shop but why advertise seedy adult films on the tv.
considered arranging return trip to airport with hotel cost $26 per person accross road down two blocks is port authority bus station cost $16 travels every 20 mins.new york fun but paronoid expect the airport routine at each major attraction. if you hope to go inside the statue of liberty book early , you will be limited to twenty mins but your not allowed inside . take the audio tour instead. the circle line boat trip around island a must the guide was simply the best.
if you want a place to drop your bags and explore this hotel five minutes walk from times square is the place. if you like the hotel experience go elsewhere

Flew with Continental Airways - best inflight service provider. The hotel is excellently situated for the theatre district and times square. check-in is at 15:00 hrs and check-out at 12:00 hrs Accommodation is average on arrival they gave us a room that still held someone elses luggage - quickly sorted by reception staff. security at hotel good as you cannot get near elevators without showing your room key. Room always left clean and tidy and fresh towels everyday. As long as its only bed for the night and a room to wash in this hotel is great value. If your looking to spend a lot of time in your room I would go somewhere else.
Use the Grayline buses which stop just up from the hotel. we bought 48hr passes which let you jump on and off as many times as you wanted. The American tour guides are brilliant with a vast knowledge of their city and its history. unfortunately one time we got on the bus it turned out to be an english expat and he was more interested in talking about David Beckham, Ozzie Osbourne and the World Cup than provide information on New York.
For food near the hotel we went to Daniela, 728 8th Avenue between 45th and 46th street for breakfast each day. You can get 2 huge croissants, 2 pint glasses of Tropicana and columbian coffee as many refills as you want for $20 including the tip which is roughly £10 great value and an excellent way to start the day if you aren't into huge breakfasts. Frankie and Johnnies is great value for a steak and is again situated near the hotel and good for eating at before going to a theatre or after. Also there is a bar/restaurant further down 45th street on the opposite side from the hotel called Rendevous which again is terrific value and huge portions.
If your looking for clothes bargains try Century 21 just opposite ground zero for designer labels at anywhere upto 75% discount. Don't know if its a weekly event or what but we came out of Grand Central Terminal on Saturday 3rd June and found thta Lexington Avenue was closed off to traffic for about 12 blocks for a street market - stalls of every kind possible great bargains to be had.

Milford Plaza is in a fantastic location just around the corner from Times Square and all the theatres. The security in the hotel is excellent. Safe Deposit Boxes Free. If you check out of your room befoe your flight you can store your luggage I think it was 3 Dollars per bag but we didn't use it. The rooms are small, but very clean and the location was fantastic. I was worried when I had read some of the reviews but if we went again wouldn't hestitate to stay here. We walked everywhere except for going to Statue of Liberty which we used the below bus tour to get us there. Our feet did hurt though! I think you need to remember this is a busy City and this is reflected everywhere you go. However, because we went in January when it is supposed to be really cold (we had fantastic weather) it wasn't too busy.
The Grayline bus tour sets off just up from the hotel which is a hop on hop off. Good Value. It is good on the first day to get your bearings.
Central Park 20 minute walk from hotel max. Ice Skating if going go for the beginning of the session as it gets really busy and unless you are Torvill and Dean becomes scary!
The View restaurant (revolving Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square) was really special and you get excellent views of the city as you eat and drink. Set 3 course menu 60 Dollars each excluding drinks but really good food. We had cocktails to begin with and they were the best ones we have ever tasted.
Booked Empire State Tickets on line = saves time.
Shows - We saw the Producers excellent and would recommend. You can buy your tickets from the theatres as they are so close to the hotel. It is worth paying for the top priced seats because the cheaper seats are not very comfy no leg room and we are small.

We were rather apprehensive about staying in this hotel after reading some of the reviews on your site but were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The check in went smoothly, there were no queues and we were provided with two adjacent non- smoking rooms as requested. Undoubtedly the hotel is rather old, but in good condition otherwise. Our bed linen was changed every day and we had lots of fluffy white towels and toiletries. All of the staff we had contact with (security, cleaning and reservations) were most helpful and pleasant.
We had a wonderful holiday, staying in New York for 6 days. The helicopter trip for me was the highlight. We booked the 20 minute trip before we left home and it was well worth the cost. The night before we came home we enjoyed the Yacht Dinner Cruise. After a beautiful meal (the best we had on this holiday) we cruised around Manhattan Island, listening and dancing to soft jazz, Frank Sinatra etc. and when darkness fell, to see the skyscrapers lighting up and sailing under the bridges was something we will never forget. At one point the ship stopped beside the Statue of Liberty and they played God Bless America - there was not a dry eye anywhere!
New York is such a wonderful place to visit. Everyone must go at least once in their life and we can't wait to get back.

After reading the reveiws of this Hotel I thought it fitted the bill. Clean, comfortable, affordable and central.... so I booked the long awaited trip to New York.
Then we arrived....Firstly the hotel is opposite 'The Playpen' club and some dodgy video stores something the operators dont tell you!! then you walk into the Hotel lobby which was dirty, very hot, crowded and the carpet looked like it had not seen a hoover for a few years. The reception staff were grumpy and surly cerainly not the welcome you would like when you arrive in a new city AND you've paid for it.
The first room we were given was tiny, very hot, dirty and smelly. The window looked out onto a brick wall, the window was so old and rotting I'm surprised it was still in there and the bathroom looked like it had not been cleaned. When I went to complain and ask for another room the male receptionst sighed and said he didn't have anthing available, when I pushed him he eventually looked on the computer and said the only room available in this very large hotel was a smoking room. It was slightly better, although the windows would not open or shut properly, the curtains did not close. The climate control did not work,it either heated the room to tropical at 3am or it was freezing by 3am..it was also dangerous as it was hanging off some wires. As the windows would not shut the noise from the 24hr life style and the hooting cabs was too much to take. The carpet in the room again seemed to have been avoiding the hoover and certainly needed a clean, infact the whole of the 7th floor seemed to be shabby and smelly. The bathroom was heated by a heater that appeared to only heat to tropical and could not be controlled. The toilet would not flush properly and hissed and groaned day and night. The shower ran hot and then cold which as you can imagine is not very much fun!! The bed sheets and blankets were clean though and whenever we came across the cleaning staff they were very friendly.
Even the guy who looks after the suitcases while you wait for your ride to go to the airprot was grumpy and then got upset when I didn't tip him!!!!
I was in such a state about this hotel that it very nearly ruined the trip for us...
New York is worth the visit and long flight...I loved it and I would go back again but I would never ever stay at the Milford Plaza again..

Was really disapointed with this place. The reception staff were more interested in discussing what tips they recieved than serving customers! Very inappropriate. First room was SO small you couldnt swing a cat. We asked to be moved and the room was larger. The hotel was very dated, and needs a lick of paint to brighten it up. On the positive....good location.

I too like the other review, was a little worried about what to expect, however the Hotel was fine, I have rated Very good as the location is second to none. Yes rooms are small, but they usually are in a New york Hotel of this standard. The staff were very helpful. You can get a coffee from the gift shop to take up to your room and there is a Starbucks and Ben and Jerry's just round the corner.
A tip if you go to the Empire State and there is a queue for the lifts to go up from the 80th flr to the 86th, ask to use the stairs, it's only 6 floors and you can do this in literally 5 minutes, do the same if there is a queue to come down from the top.
We booked tickets to see the producers before we went and can highly recomend this. Take time to read all the other tips every one else has put own, this was our 6th visit and it just gets better. If you haven't been before as mentioned in other reviews you must do the Statten Island ferry.
Try a Cold Stone Ice Cream, there is one by the AMC cinema on 42nd street, costs $13 for 3, but worth every penny.
Don't miss the Hershey shop on Broadway, Times Square area
We did the Intrepid which has Concorde right by and that was worth a visit.
We did try to book the day before we came home, the TV and Movie tour, the flyer we oicked up said book early it sells out, it did and we couldn'tget on it, so if you fancy that one, book it when you get there
If you have a digital camera we had 53 photos printed and a cd made all for £13 in the hour, what a bargain, from a Duane Reade
I would also recommend the Ameritania Hotel and Best western.

fter reading the reviews on this site we were a bit worried and our first impressions were that it was a bit seedy and reminded us of Gotham City! But, it was fine, rooms a bit small but very clean and the bed linen was changed every day. The bathrooms were very old and small but clean.
The hotel could do with new windows as when you look out of them they feel as if they may fall out, and looking out of the window is all you want to do as it is so exciting on the streets below! The hotel security was very good, you had to show your room key to get in the elevators. The staff were very helpful and the front desk was efficient. Times Square area was a great place to stay, we felt very safe, even at night. The bus tours leave from Times Square and are a great way to see everything, you can get on and off where and when you want to. October was chilly, you need warm clothes, especially on the open top bus!
The Taxis are handy sometimes and the subway was easy to use, we expected to see grafitti and loads of scary people, but it was clean and we felt safer than on the tube in London. Walking is the best way to get around and the quickest.
Everything we done was well worth it, walked across Brooklyn Bridge, horse and cart round Central Park, Empire State, Macys, Bloomingdales, Tiffany, Trump Tower,Grand Central Station, Times Square, Ground Zero and loads more, just too much to see and we have to go back! Even the kids loved it.
Would like to stay at a different hotel next time. But the Milford Plaza was a good clean hotel, in a good location and we had a great stay there.

Have just returned from a three week holiday in the States which included 5 nights in New York.
I was very nervous having booked the Milford Plaza and then read previous reviews! However, I am pleased to report that the hotel was very good, clean and the staff very helpful - although our double bedded room was very small for a stay of 5 nights. The twin bedded rooms are certainly larger.
New York certainly was exciting and you need at least 5 days to see the sites.
I found eating out quite expensive, however, the attractions are reasonably priced.
Weather was comfortable for walking about but take comfortable walking shoes!

I have to say that this hotel was a bit of a letdown. This was a very busy hotel and at the time we were there two of the lifts were out of order. This made getting to your room a long wait. We stayed only two nights, and on the last night the toilet overflowed. The hotel fixed the problem, but dispite numerous complaints i could not get anyone to clean up the mess.In retrospect we should have asked for another room.
I enjoyed visiting the sights but found New Yorkers especially those in carrying out security work to be rude and ill mannered. Like London i found New York expensive and poor value for money.
New York is a place to visit once, but please stay at another hotel
